This beer looks good. A deep gold, its pretty dark for an international pilsner. The head is pure white and lasts the whole glass. Thick patches of lace stick to the glass.

Now for the bad...

The aroma is grainy and sweeter than a usual mass market pilsner. Theres also a sickly fruity accent. The taste is too sweet for the style with the same weird fruit/estery off flavor and some cooked veggies. Some hop flowers show in the middle but get lost in the weirdness. The mouthfeel is light with moderate carbonation and a saccarine feel coating my mouth. The finish is conspicuously lacking in bitterness.

This beer is not very tastey. Not enough hops, even for an international pilsner, also some funky off flavors. Just a notch or two above undrinkable.

Typical pils pale yellow color, decent white fluff atop, soft and creamy.
Aroma, Every way ordinary, mild, slightly grainy, cornmeal, sweetish, zestless. Taste, ....eh. Flat, dull, ...so much so, it makes W. seem like a Rhodes scholar. Something unpleasant in the mouthfeel, too, something sickly, and thoroughly unpalatable. Light bodied, but not too light, there's an ample amount of malt here, but the flavor is off-putting as all-get-out!
Perhaps this better in some other format, or, undoubtedly, when fresher, as any beer is...but this sample was unsatisfactory!

A Has a clear golden color, and only average carbonation, which left me surprised at its impressive head.

S Nothing that you haven't smelled before.

T Tastes like any German macro-lager, pleasant but non-threatening.

M Refreshing, it would work well for pool sides or BBQs.

D Easy to drink, which is about all that it has going for it.

Appearance - golden with a big foamy head that dissipated quickly with some lacing
Smell - initial spiciness with the pour, which settles into a yeast scent
Taste - yeast, spice, and a little malt with a bitter aftertaste
Mouthfeel - thin and well carbonated
Drinkability - Unfortunately I poured this before it had enough time to chill properly, so this might have affected my experience. I'm a mere Acolyte and this is my first Pilsner review, and I have to say I think this isn't the beer style for me. The bite of the bitterness really isn't to my liking, but that said, you live and learn.

Average German beer with nothing special to make you want to drink this beer in the pubs or with food. It's one of those not-bad-not-good beers which you would go for an alternative if there was one but wouldn't refuse to drink it if there wasn't any other beer...

Krombacher Pils pours a pale yellow with a fluffy white head from a brown 500 ml bottle. The aroma is very mild, a hint of hops maybe. Malt dominates the flavor at first, followed by a metallic hop taste. More malty than hoppy. I'd pass and try something else.

When I opened the bottle I immediately thought 'damn, my first skunked beer in Germany'. Luckily, that was not the case. Nevertheless it made me very reluctant to take that first sip. When I did I was relieved that it was still 'good'. Color is pale and has the color of urine the morning after a hard night's drinking. Not something that makes you go yum. Taste is drinkable. Its nothing great nothing bad--a perfect 3. Herby flavors are there along with a dominate but lightly bitter hop profile. Mouthfeel is comparable to memories of American macro-lagers and not of any German Pils ive had before.

Bottle offered to me at a dinner party in Germany.

A: Pours a clear straw yellow with a head that quickly fades

S: Smells like cereal

T: Not too strong a taste, not too offensive, not bad for a pilsner.

M: Light carbanation, light feel

D: Easy to drink, I could have a few of these.

Medium gold in colour with lots of carbonation. Aromas begin with sulfur, then eventually reveal some honey malt and grassy hop notes. Some grassy and spicy hop flavor notes are there, along with some more light malt notes on the back end. Its got a bitter soapy finish too, which isn't as clean as I'd like. Slightly below average for the style.

Bland pils but creamy mouthfeel as a pils ought to have. OK with overpowering strong meat. Fizzy, bit of malt and bitter hops altogether. Metalic residue yet from bottle and not can. Lace remains. Difficult to finish quickly.

most popular beer in Germany they told us?

Fairly average pilsener. Bottle is a lighter shade of brown, needs to be a little darker, as mine had a slighty light-struck (skunky) aroma. OK, but nothing special.

Poured from 11.2 ounce bottle to pilsener glass

A - clear bright gold with fluffy white head that dissipated quickly, but left respectable lacing

S - slightly fruity aroma which seemed a bit surprising, but not bad

T - no bitterness; malt sweetness was the most prevalent/powerful characteristic

M - little zip from carbonation; sticky finish

O - beer was good and an enjoyable, easy drinker

I picked this one up as a mixed-sixer to sample a brew that I first had on a trip Germany. It was a pleasant trip down memory lane, and a decent brew, but nothing outstanding.

330ml bottle. Footed Pilsner glass. Golden color, clear appearance, headed by white close crown. Slight honey & citric aromas & slight sulfur notes. Grainy & pale malty upfront followed by earthy bitterness. Light body. Moderate to high carbonation. Watery texture. Clean, slight harsh, bitterness & light metallic hues in the middle resolves in a long bitter finish. Refreshing & very easy drinkability.

Aroma has strong shot of fresh hops initially, and the sweet/sour quality of many of this style. Slight malt quality.
Huge full white head with decent stability. Water clear with gold color.
Intial taste is fresh malt, slightly sweet. Middle starts to take on bitterness, which increases to dominate with a long somewhat dry finish. Long bitter lingering on the tongue.
Fairly thin, somewhat watery. Has a refeshing quality and mildly crisp.
I really liked the initial flavour. But ultimately the bitterness to the exclusion of malt didn't allow enough balance to make it pleasing throughout.

Krombacher Pils 4.8%

adhering to the Reinheitsgebot

A: A very bright, caramel to hay color with spritely bubbles and a robust head

S: Grains and yeasts followed, slowly, by a malt or two.

T: For sure a pilsner with a very pilsnery, pils pop. She starts with that bitter and carbonation then lager yeast, grain and a lingering grassy coating.

M: harsh and dry

O: Like taking a yeasty roll in the hay this Pils embodies that simmering hot summer day when you were too stupid, too poor and too sweaty to linger in the beer isle. The problem with his beer boys and girls is that as soon as the chill haze wears off, so does the delightful bitter carbonated refreshment that first excites you. Not unlike young love, this beer is good for a quick July night under the stars, just make sure that there is plenty of ice in the cooler and a more then one.

The yeast in the nose completely overwhelmed any hops, which made me wonder if the beer was skunked, but it tasted normal, and another beer I got from a different store today had the same weird over-yeastieness going on. So that's not cool.

The beer looks just fine, though, with a short-lived head and decent lacing. The taste is hoppier than the nose led me to believe, but it's still very grainy and yeasty for the style. The mouthfeel is light, almost watery, and although it's drinkable, it's definitely not a must-drink. It was much better for washing down my curry tonight than it was on its own.

This pours a really big soapy head that takes time to settle - you need to do the traditional pils pour with this one - let it settle a minute or two, top it up a bit, repeat till glass full. Lots of lacing and the head disappears en route.

Smell is hoppy and a little sour. Mouthfeel is nice enough. Taste is malt and hops but not particularly interesting. The head doesnt actually taste soapy, but there is something soapy going on in the after-taste. Another reviewer (northyorksammy) said "OK with overpowering strong meat." Weird but true, there's a strong not-very-fresh meat presence.
I dont think this is what pils is about.

Not very drinkable either - I feel bloated two-thirds of the way through (there is the possibility that it's to do with me, but I dont normally have this problem..)

Pours a sun yellow color, with a very stable, one finger broad head.

Smells of rich wheat, together with a whiff of leafy hops and biscuity, distinct malts. Actually pleasant on the nose, the archtype of a german industrial Pils.

Has a high carbonation, still creating a smooth mouthfeel, due to well pronounced wheat and malts.

Tastes of a wheat infused maltiness, soon accompanied by leafy hops, which then get washed away by evolved, more distinct and sweeter malts. Finishes with a pleasant, white bread maltiness, which got a toffee note to it, among wheat and the bubbly carbonation.

Nothing wrong with this beer, very typical for what you can expect from an industrial Pils, with a remarkable, creamy mouthfeel. Its features also the typical hop shortage in these beer, replaced by sugary sweetness, which makes me usually seeking out for smaller brewing operations in Germany.

Pours transparent amber in color with an ample white head. Aroma is mild and peculiar. If forced to attempt a description, I would venture to say that it is vegetally spicy (should such a thing exist). It reminds me of a scratch 'n' sniff sticker from an old Star Wars children's book that had long been lost to my memory. If I recall correctly, this particular sticker was supposed to smell like "fungus". This isn't quite as pungent, but it definitely bears some similarity...

With my outrageously esoteric description of the aroma out of the way, it's on to the taste. The flavor is definitely superior to the nose, though I can't say that I can describe exactly what I'm tasting. The mildly spicy hop flavor is definitely noticeable, but it's pretty well balanced by the malt. I must confess I lack the prowess to properly describe the malt flavor; the best I can do is to say that the malt comes through as slightly juicy near the finish, but that would not be a fair description in general. This is rather unique tasting to me.

The carbonation is quite lively and lends a mouthfeel that compliments the flavor nicely and really holds the whole thing together. I'm a devout detractor of Pilsners, but I must give this one credit for bringing something different to the table and keeping me interested. Krombacher has fuller flavor and substance than I'm used to experiencing in this style, so I will certainly credit them for that. This hardly has made me a Pilsner man, but if obligated to have one, I wouldn't mind having this.

Poured into a pilsner a light golden with a decent sized rocky white head that was gone pretty quickly. The nose is very clean...too clean,a bit of toasted grain and faint hint of iron and that's about it.Mild flavors of toasted bread and that iron note, light sweetness in the finish.Eh I wanted something I could drink while grillin in the heat,I could have done better.

A- pours a bright straw color with two fingers of bone white head. Pretty good retention with a smudge of lacing showing as well.

S- dry cracker like malt aromas with just a kiss of sweetness. Spicy herbal hops and an earthy characteristic on the finish.

T- grainy cracker like malt hit the palate at first. Zesty floral hops with some herbal and earthy notes are there mid palate. Finishes clean with a bit of a off putting steeliness and some lingering malt sugars.

MF- slick oily mouthfeel with a light body. Very high carb that gives a soda like consistency. Not a fan of the mouthfeel.

D- decent drinkability.

Overall not the best pils but decent.

This pours a darker golden colour. Clear. Disappointing head even with vigorous pour.

Aroma dominated by grains - dry biscuit. Bit of grassiness.

Sweet palate. More grains. A bit underwhelming actually.

Light bodied.

This might work better for me washing down some curry but by itself it is a bit bland.

Crystal clear yellow-gold colour with a moderate short-lived head settling to a ring. Gives some lace early on.

Sharp grainy nose on a malt background. Fizzy bite, bitter hops, some malt. No really well pronounced flavours or aromas. Dry and hoppy. Your average Euro pils, good with a sandwich or sausage.
