Efes Pilsener, ABV: 5.0%.
500 ml bottle, 16.30 SEK at Systembolaget.

A: The liquid is clear with tiny bubbles, the colour kind of straw yellow and the head is white, foamy and pretty big.

S: Clean, fresh and malty aroma with notes of hay, citrus, tropical fruits and flowers.

T: Fresh flavours of malt, bread, butter, citrus, tropical fruits, floral hops and hints of cereals. Decent bitterness. Not bad at all.

M: Refreshing. Notable carbonation - perhaps a bit too strong. Medium-sized body.

O: A decent choice on a thirsty day in the sun, and I can imagine having Efes with salads, pasta dishes, grilled pork... or dare I say turkey?

12oz bottle at the Bha Bha persian restaurant in Naples, FL, only because American options available were pretty grim, and I thought, "when in the area of Rome, do as ...

Bought to the table and poured into a goblet. Almsot crystal clear pale yellow, with a generous bright white foamy head. Lacing was good and continous.

Smell was crisp and clean, slightly fruity, nothing strong.

Taste really surprised me. I don't often drink lagers or pilsners, but this was deliciously subtle, clean, no harsh adjuncts, corn, or heavy carbonation taste. Perfectly meshed with the lamb shanks.

Mouth was light, refreshing

Overall, a very pleasant surprise, and one I certainly wouldn't say no to if it popped up somewhere here in PA.

This beer brings back memories. I used to drink this by the gallon while I spent a month traveling around Turkey back in 2004. One of the most enjoyable, care-free periods of my life for sure.

From a bottle into a pils glass.
Best Before 12 May 2014 at 7:42 pm

APPEARANCE: Pours a medium looking, fluffy, foamy white head with very good retention. Perfectly clear maize yellow in color with medium levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a good foam cap and sticks to the sides of the glass. A full cam remains the whole way and leaves some good lacing down the glass.

SMELL: Lots of grainy malts, a honey-like note and some flowery hops on the nose. White bread and honey are most prevalent here, with some hints of lemon in the back. Perhaps not quite as bold as the flavors, but still well balanced.

TASTE: Some grainy malts with white bread and caramel sweetness up front, then more grains and a honey-like sweetness at the swallow. Medium and dry finish with honey, caramel, and a nice grassy, floral hop bitterness as well. Well balanced bitterness matches the malt sweetness very well.

PALATE: Medium body and carbonation. Creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes crisp and dry. A touch of bitterness lingers. Good feel.

OVERALL: Definitely still a quality pilsner, and one of the better examples of the style. If this style were held in higher esteem, this brew would get a lot more press. It's not quite the same drinking this at age 34 on a cold, rainy afternoon as it was ten years ago in the Turkish sun, but quality is quality, and it's just as good as I remember it. Give it a try with an open mind.

This is one of my favourite mainstream lagers.
Pours with a clear golden color and a generous white head that settles down to a lacing around the brim.
The aroma is pleasantly mild, with some grainy hops dominating it.
The taste is initially slightly on the sweet side, followed by a nice and refreshing bitterness. The finish is hoppy and bittery. The taste is light, but not watery. Very drinkable and extremelly refreshing.
