Our Extra Pale Ale is a hop-forward pale ale that employs an abundant use of whole cone hops. We designed our Extra Pale Ale utilizing Vermont grown hops from the UVM Hop Extension Program. In this beer we have used Centennial, Chinook, and Cascade hops in their whole cone form, allowing us to selectively pull lively aromas from them through a brief steeping at the end of the boil as well as dry-hopping during cellaring. We use a malt bill that is tailored to complement and showcase the hops, which, when coupled with a gentle bitterness, make this beer all about the glorious aromas and flavors of these hops.

Poured from a 12 oz stubbie into a pint glass; born on 7/15/22. Pours hazyish yellow with one fingers worth of foam head that retains well. Tastes of bright citrus (orange peel) with a complementing aroma. Very good especially for a seemingly dying style.

awesome little beer right here, using whole cone hops grown in vermont, i didnt know many hops were being grown here! this is fresh and flavorful and really robust for its modest abv, i like when a beer can do that, and not be out of balance and full of hop burn, especially in a hazy one, which this is, at least unfiltered, if not intentionally cloudy. there is a lot of recognizable older school hop character to this, like spiciness and pine and things we all know and love from these varietals, but there is also an unexpected fruitiness, which i suppose i have started to know from chinook in a dry hop context, but they seem a little softer, less abrasive, possibly lower alpha, maybe some vermont terroir coming through here, definitely distinctive to me, different enough to stand out. notes of lemongrass, spruce tips, and wet lawn, a little pine resin bite to it, but clean and dry in the finish, refreshing even, especially with high carbonation and a light body for being as hazy as it is. i could drink a ton of these, any time of day or year, its well made, simple, organic tasting beer that really showcases these hops well and in a new way as distinct from the northwest. i was really impressed with all the beers in a recent visit here, these guys have really evolved into an awesome brewery!

Bottled 2 months ago. Hazy straw color with the yeast swirled into the pour. Big fluffy head. Smell is fine but not prominent. Tastes of slightly piney bitter hops. Feel is juicy with moderate carbonation. Overall, this is mostly unobjectionable and easy to drink, although the hops flavor is mostly bitter without other nuances. So it is really not very tasty and not my favorite of the Switchback choices.
