Notes/Commercial Description:
Slow-Fermented Brown Ale (available August 2nd 2010)

The newest offering from Switchback Brewing Company, Slow-Fermented Brown Ale is a beautiful chestnut brown colored beer. It is fermented at an unusually cool temperature which slows down the fermentation. These conditions stress the yeast, resulting in a slow methodical fermentation in which the resultant flavors are clean, somewhat like a lager, with the added characteristic of a creamy smooth mouthfeel. This brown ale has a rich roast caramel flavor, with a subtle sweetness in the finish, delicately balanced with hop undertones.

On tap poured into a pint glass.

Pours a dark hazy brown color with a small white head with light white lacing.

Taste is sweet and malty with a light hoppiness that's really refreshing and nice but not too bitter. It's a really tasty beer that's well balanced.

Poured from a bomber into a shaker pint, the beer is a rich, amber-brown coloring with a filmy, slick, off-white head that coats the surface and clings to the glass. Aromas of roasted notes, nutty sweetness, and some earthy tones. Subtle nose. Flavors are roasted and sweet, as well. Nutty characteristics forward, with a roasted caramel backbone and slightly bittersweet profile at the end. Smooth, light body with a crisp end feel. The aftertaste is rich hazelnut and subtle cream sweetness. Clean, crisp finish with only the slightest hint of roasted sweet lingering behind. Solid brew, and very drinkable.
