Dos Equis is a pretty good Mexican beer overall. It pairs with Tex-Mex food exceptionally well, and also makes for a nice, light afternoon beer. It compliments a warm sunny day rather well, if I do say so. Dos Equis often gets slammed as a Mexican version of an American macro-lager, and to some extent that definition is true. But the taste is definitely a step up from the typically watered-down and bland BMC slate of offerings.
Dos Equis Amber pours with a copper-amber coloring and a decent head. Not much nose to speak of, but I got a hint of malt sweetness from the scent.
The taste was smooth and malty. There's a hop presence, but it's light and in the background. Very mellow tasting. No complex flavors to get in the way of the taste. Slight bit of corn adjunct getting through, adding a bit of sweetness.
Not a bad beer at all. I highly recommend pairing it with spicy foods or barbecue. Good finish, good mouthfeel. Right carbonation level. Order one up the next time you go out for some Tex-Mex eatin'.
