Mexican beers always appeal more to me in the summer, so I picked of a six of the Dos Equis Ambar Lager this week. I didn't have very high expectations, so I wasn't really disappointed.

Poured in a pint glass, I got a pretty decent head, that stuck to the glass in some random places as I drank it. The color is a brown/ amber, almost coppery color. The aroma that greets you is very yeasty. You taste the yeast and malt flavors as you sip, but the brew is also very watery. Not a great mouth feel to this beer, low carbonation and nothing that sticks to the tongue.

Best served ice cold, it would be OK with some fajitas that you would be grilling out. Nothing I would go to a bar and order.

Had this at a local Mexican restaurant. Decent and comparable to Yuengling (my favorite mass-produced beer). Here goes:

A: OK, not good or bad. Beer pours a dark brown with a one inch head that quickly dissipates. Very little lacing, too, but not bad.

S: Not that much going on here. Caramel malt is present but it's very light (hardly detectable). No hops or yeast.

T: Good. Presence of burnt caramel malt imparts toasty characteristics. It tastes like a watered-down Yuengling. As I was drinking it I was wishing it was Yuengling instead.

M: Light-bodied; lighter than Yuengling. Slight bready character makes up for the light body somewhat, though. Not bad.

O: OK beer. Would rather have a Yuengling, but not bad.
