Had this one from a 12 oz. clear bottle. Pours a nice golden color with about a 1 inch quickly vanishing head. Some spot lacing.
Smell was dominated by malt, although quite faint. Also pick up some minor sweetness.
Taste is surprisingly good for the style. Doesn't have any skunkiness like Corona, which I refuse to drink anymore (it has really devolved into a brew for those who think themselves "cool", and Corona Light, huh....). Taste is close to smell, mostly malt sweetness, with no hops to speak of, but not really unbalanced.
The mouthfeel is quite full and actually seems a bit cream ale-ish. Very good.
Overall, this is a very good beer for the Mexican macro style, one of the better ones I have had in the USA, IMO.
For what it is, not a bad brew. I will be buying some more.

Four Seasons Liquors - Morris, IL
Picked this up for a mop, might as well finish the rest. A straw golden body is clear enough to read through. Lazy carbonation runs up the middle to the fizzy white, finger high head. The head crackles away quickly to nothing but a small, bubbly ring.
Skunky. I don't know if it's from the clear bottle or if they intentionally do the whole Heineken thing but it's certainly reminiscent. Smells a little like hard water, mineral heavy, without much behind it but indistinct, soggy grains. It's not bad or off putting, really, but it is in no way good or particularly appetizing.
The flavor runs along the same lines. Soggy grain, not very crisp, that have gotten skunked in one way or another. The finish is a little more vibrant and the grains clean up a bit but it's simply more of the same. Again, nothing good but a halfway refreshing beer on a day running around outdoors.
The best of Sol is the mouthfeel. Light bodied with a fairly quick moving carbonation. The finish is actually dry and clean which clears away the skunk, leaving no noticeable aftertaste.
Sol isn't all that bad. I'm sure I will have it again in the future as I have in the past. It does what it's brewed for and makes sense in certain situations. I'd reach for this before Corona any day.
