Appearance- Yellow. Looks like a urine speciman. Has a failry small, white head with almost no staying power and no lacing.

Aroma- About what you would expect from an American macro-lager. Some malty sweetness, a touch of corn and graininess. Almost no hop aroma at all.

Taste- Again, about what you would expect from a macro lager. Some hop bitterness, sop malt sweetness, some graininess. Failry boring.

Mouthfeel- Medium mouthfeel for the style. Carbonation level is okay, but it really doesn't bring anything else out.

Drinkability- This is one of those beers that you drink ice-cold on a hot day. No other time should this beer be intersecting your taste-buds.

Very pale straw yellow color with a bit of white foam head for a few seconds, then it's gone.

The aroma is light grassy, grainy.

The taste is very light sweet malt with just a bit of herbal hops at the finish.

Very light bodied, a bit watery, as most Mexican brews. Refreshing and easy to drink. Although a typical light Mexican lager in most respects, the taste is a bit ahead of the pack. The flavor is light enough to drink with most food, but seems meant to wash down spicy foods of whatever variety..

Crystal clear, barely yellow color with thin white head and essentially boring appearance. Nose is corn syrup and adjunct city. Taste is sweet but decent and rather refreshing. Pseudobitter but more nasty than true bitter flavor to the aftertaste takes away any momentum this beer has built up. The mouthfeel is watery and not going to win too many accolades from the likes of me. This is subpar Mexican lagaer, almost indistinguishable from its stablemates Carta Blanca, Tecate, etc. No thank you.

sol, product of mexico. imported. says so several times around the clear 330ml bottle. 4.5 % abv. best before 01/07.

very pale yellow, not much fizz. and absolutely no head at all. formed a little lace which quickly vanished leaving only sufacing bubbles uncovered. makes me sad.

strange as the aroma isnt that bad first up. quite a nice blast of grass hoppiness which greets you right out of the bottle. that does settle as it warms leaving a light malty sweet smell. must have been the hops caught in the headspace?

taste is pretty standard macro lager. which is to say, not much. the only noticeable characteristic is the slightly sweet finish.

well, nothing bad to say about it really. for a macro lager, id say its no better or worse than most. usually the most notable thing about the style is the flaws you can pick out. so i guess from that standpoint, this is ahead of the rest.
still wouldnt buy it again though.

My understanding is that Mexican beers don't use light stable hops and come in these clear bottles, which make hesitant when I pick up a glass of Sol or Corona for that first sip...but this one is OK.

No head, no lacing. Beer is amber-ish yellow. Taste is slightly sweet and not great but totally inoffensive. For what it's worth, this stuff is actually pretty drinkable, as in, I could drink a lot of it.

Wow, I guess I'm one of the few that really like this beer. The appearance is very clear, very neat. The smell is a bit stronger than most beers, but still about average. I really enjoy the taste of this beer, it's very refreshing...especially in the heat of Mexico. The mouthfeel is very crisp. I rate this high on drinkability because I have drank this brew all day...well into the night.

I guess this one isn't for everyone, but it's for me. This is my favorite Mexican brew. That's to say "Mexican Brew".

Another BA said that it's better than Corona... I agree, far better. In the crop of Mexican beers this one stands out. There are better beers out there, but this one isn't bad by any means.

This beer pours a very pale yellow into the glass. The most remarkable part of the appearance is the decent head and the amount of lacing that is left on the glass. Other than this there isn't much to speak of. The aroma is of some grains and a bit of hops, weakly. The taste is a perfect example of why many BA's avoid micros like the plague-- there is simply nothing there. If you have one of these and don't mind it i suppose you can have more but there is much better beer out there.

Pours a clear fizzy golden with barely any head and not much carbonation going on. Smells of sweetish grains and not much else. Really impressed for what a beer of this style is able to pull off. Yes, I get some grain and adjuncty flavors, but I also get a sweet malty flavor that is quite unique when compared to other similar beers. This is a thin and light bodied beer. No surprises. This has a decent malty flavor while maintaining its lightness. I like it.

A- Clear and yellow, with little head.

S- Corn smell, very slight malt odor.

T- Watery, very light on taste. Corn taste. Little to no malt taste. Slight bitter/hop finish.

M & D- High carbonation, easy enough to drink, it's just that I don't want to. Far too watery and lacking flavor. One or two is good with some spicy Mexican food though...and could do the same 1-2 on a very hot day. I would just rather have something with more body and flavor. I'm not a huge lager fan and this is on the low end of lagers.

Bottle: Poured a bright yellow color beer with a small bubbly head with very little retention. Aroma of corn and adjunct is totally dominating and not very interesting. Taste is bland and boring with some corn being sensible and for the rest it is mostly watery. Just another boring pale lager I guess.

It's hard to review bland beers. They don't bite you and don't delight you. This one looks good in its enameled bottle, but I happen to know that such bottles once were miner's privilege, containing the cheapest beers in Mexico. Outside Estados Unidos Mexicanos it's quite pricey but still bland, smelling of corn and tasting like a European Lager deluded in tap water.
Clear, but not interesting. Nothing offends me and nothing attracts. Just another Corona - from a different brewery. Avoid it!

Pours a clear golden body beneath a full head of bright white foam. Tiny bubbles can be seen rising throughout the glass. The head retention is good and, bolstered by the carbonation rising from below, it maintains a thin lid throughout much of the glass. It even leaves some nice lacing.

The nose is limited to some mild malt. Surprisingly, it's not skunked despite the clear bottle.

In the mouth it's medium-light bodied with a median carbonation that gently tingles the tongue.

The flavor displays some lightly sweet, adjunct-laden malt. It's just slightly grainy. There are some hops present in the background, seemingly spicy in nature. A firm bitterness balances it, and it finishes short and dry.

Overall it's pretty vapid, which limits it's drinkability because there's just nothing there to keep your attention. And you can't really use the "on a hot day" excuse either because almost and golden, adjunct beer would do at that point.

My friend and I chose this beer based on two premises...he was in the mood for corona but didn't want to spend the $$$$ on corona and he liked the packaging.

the smell was dominated by the lime he put in this for me but it did have a skunky odor still

the taste was much more pleasing than corona

the mouthfell was very thin and carbonated

the drinkability is average as I don't especially care for corona. I will say this beer is better than corona.

This beer pours a pale honey yellow with a slight tint of mossy green. The huge bleach white head fell to absolutely nothing in no time.

Smells of light biscuits and honey with a crisp lemon dryness.

Tasted initially of tingly bitter hops that was amplified by the carbonation but then revealed a light pasty bread dough and sweet corn bread that was pleasantly sweet in the finish.

The mouth feel was light and slightly sticky with an easy but prominent carbonation.

I could see myself drinking a lot of these if I needed to. Seriously, in a blind taste test, I’d bet you would have trouble guessing that this was made in Mexico. I must say, I was impressed by this beer.

before I "discovered" craft beers, this was one of my favourite beers.

The thing is, there's not much taste, smell or anything to it. Bland, watered down, just your macro lager. It doesn't taste or smell bad, it's just that it quite almost doesn't smell or taste at all. Yellow fizzy water, with a hint of beer.

Sol pours a light yellow with a fluffy white head from a clear bottle with silk-screened graphics (cool label in my opinion). Not much in the way of smell, and what little smell there is isn't good. Taste is fairly bland. I expected it to be more offensive as I'm not a fan of the Mexican version of lagers with a few exceptions. Fairly drinkable as lawnmower beer.

Clear bottle, pours a pale "bud" yellow, decent head that actually lasted, unlike the above mentioned american counterpart.

Aroma is primarily mildewish sweet corn.

Flavor actually isn't as bad as i thought from the aroma, but that's not to say it's good. It is somewhat crisp, and there is some mild hoppiness present, but the corniness lingers on the pallete, and it's not a very plesent flavor. I wish I had a corona to rate this side-by-side as I am thinking this is a better option than Corona (also not sayiing alot there..). Bottom line, any beer that needs a fruit wedge (lime in this ones case) to enhance drinkability is probably lacking a bit in the flavor department. Decent lawnmower fodder.

Sol is a tasteless mexican beer. It has no body or smell. It has a faint citric taste and could be mixed with lemon in its most mexican style. The faint corn taste is its only respectable taste.
Due to the invention of "Sol Brava", which is an attempt at creating a stornger, more alcoholic and more tasty beer, this beer has declined and only serves as a thirst quenching beer.
As the name sugests "sol" sun, is to be dunk at the beech under unbearable heat and extreme thirst. Nobody should drink sol to taste it.

If for some reason you were desirous of a Mexican beer, the current options in Melbourne are usually Sol or Corona.
Whilst it is always fashionable to prefer the non fashionable option , that in this case being Corona,Sol does offer a more pleasurable drink.Unfortunately the pleasure is still minimal
This pale offering is dull corn riddled and lacks any depth of character.
it is wet fizzy and probably is thirst quenching.
This is a hallmark beer for me , as I have finally convinced myself NOT to buy beers that are highly likely to be poor beers and wait , just wait for someone else to buy it for you. This is the first of what I hope will be many, so that I can reserve my money for decent beer.

Pours a very pale straw color with a lot of bubbly head that takes a while to fade. Smells a little of yeast, and a little flowery, not too bad. Tastes slightly sweet, but with no malt flavor, and no hop flavor at all. Really doesn't taste like much of anything. Mouthfeel is very watery with no creaminess and not much carbonation. Again, like nothing. All in all, it's very drinkable, because it tastes like water. Much better than bad beer, but much worse than good flavorful beer.

I am not a Corona fan so it was with some reluctance that I tried the beer that is sometimes referred to as a poor-man's-Corona. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised. The presentation of the actual bottle is excellent and the beer itself is a pleasing pale yellow. As expected, not much aroma to speak of but there was a slightly sweet undertone. The taste was significantly better than that of Corona despite the similar corn flavors. No lime necessary. Being smooth and refreshing are this beers main pluses. Goes down like a glass of water and is perfect for outdoor drinking any day the temp climbs over 75 degrees.

Ummmm this beer isn't worth your trouble....

Appearance isn't so bad, decent head that goes quickly and leaves a little lacing. The color is your basic yellow. The aroma this beer emits is utterly repulsive, imo. My first impression was a skunky smelling tortilla chip...eeesh. Tastes very plain, very corny, very much not impressive. Mouthfeel and drinkability is pretty lame...just feels watery and isn't smooth or refreshing at all. I'd take a PBR, a Schlitz, or a Rainier before I even think about drinking another Sol.

"Cerveza Importada" ....yeah, whatever.

My father´s favorite beer.

This beer pours a very clear golden yellow color with some head that dissipates quickly; Smell is corn; Taste is a little bit malty;Very drinkable.

Sol is a very good choice for those hot summer days but always will be better than Corona.

Appearance: Pale yellow. Some lacing, im surprised.

Smell: Sweet, ok some spicey hops and some malts.

Taste/ Mouthfeel: Sweeter than I thought it would be, and bitey-er as well.

Drinkability/Overall: I would say its better than corona or cantina but does the same job on a hot say but doesn’t offer a taste bud rush of quality taste.

Very clear, very pale. Clean white head, very tight. It's a south of the border BMC!

Smell is a bit malty, ever so slightly spicy, and very airy and light. Ever so lighty medicinal, too...

Taste is like a rice field with one or two barley plants to give it character- or it would be, if it had much flavour. Very little to go on here. Just the barest hint of spice in the back.

Mouthfeel is sort of like club soda- water with some bubbles. (OK, not quite as aggressive as club soda.)

It would be more drinkable (and would make a dandy lawnmower beer) if it had any character at all. It seems challenged in this area.

Be well
