Poured a 330-ml bottle into a long tulip glass.

Appearance - brilliant yellow beer with fast disappearing head. Substantial carbonation with some surface bubbles resulting and a little ring of lace.

Smell - citrusy-adjunct aromas with a fresh barley malt scent. Uninteresting, but not bad.

Taste - minimal flavour with peppery carbonation as with soda water. A little thin cornbread taste comes through at the end, which remains just for a few seconds. Finishes quite wet, but no aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - pretty active and not really very smooth. Makes you salivate so I suppose in that respect it's refreshing.

Drinkability - I first had this in quantity on a boat cruise a few years ago as one of only a few choices. It's not that it's not drinkable but it's pointless to choose this intentionally since there are so many better options.

Appearance: Poured a golden yellow. A finger of thin head developed but dissipated quickly to a leave a spotted lacing and ring around the edge.

Smell: It's subdued, but grains, grains, grains.

Taste: Same as the smell: grains, grains, grains. It's remarkably simple and unspectacular; totally forgettable, regrettable, and any other dull related "-able" word. There's nothing to it. It's like a watered down watered down macro lager, but with good color.

Drinkability: I expected this, and won't even bother pouring the other five in a glass. Maybe Sol could spend a little less money plastering soccer stadiums with their logo to give their beer more bite. Even that "triple hops" brewing process may be worth checking out.

Hey it's Cinco de Mayo so why not?

A - Pours a clear light gold with roughly 1 finger white head.

S - Light scents of grass and veggies.

T - Grains, sweet grass, and corn flakes. Leaves the mouth feeling very wet. Basically it tastes the same as Corona but costs less. And that's the best thing I can say about this beer.

M - Light and watery.

D - This was an easy drinker but desperately needed a garnish to enhance the flavor.
Final Thoughts: No lime? Then you are S.O.L. my friend.

Cinco de Mayo deserves a little mexican beer, right? Pours a not quite pale yellow color with a effervescent white head that fades faster than the rising bubbles can feed it. Actually does leave a bit of lacing as the beer gets consumed.

Smell is faint, but unoffensive. Just a whiff of light malts and maybe a hint of roasted corn.

One can really taste the corn in this beer, has a corn flakey, mealy feel to it. Tastes fresh and clean, but there is just not that much to it. The carbonation when it is drank straight from the bottle helps add a bit of sustenance to it. I also like this one better without the lime.

Drank at a bar in Mexico...

Pours a clear golden with a white head that dissipates. Little carbonation seen rising.

Aroma is of corn/adjuncts. Some yeast in there.

Taste is adjuncts. Lacking in anything.

Mouthfeel is lightly cleansing and somewhat dead.

Overall, I drank the whole bottle but that will be my last.

A- As clear as water and almost the same color. Lots of bubbles but no head. Color is almost piss yellow. Extra points for bottle design. I'm partial to the sun with eyes.

S- Metallic corn husk. A common lager scent in Mexico. There is a bit of sweetness and some cooked veggies.

T- The taste hard to find. Makes this beer good for certain occasions. The best parts about this beer are the label, the fact that it's a Mexican import, and the price. If I had written something about taste, this section of my review would be blank.

M- Drink cold, of course. Bubbly and ultra-light with a pinch of tannins and alcohol.

D- Ya I could drink this all night, but I won't if any other style of beer is available.

Head instantly disappears. Completely clear gold/yellow.
Smells like corn, Vegemite, corn flakes (as in the cereal), and there's also some metallic hint.
Definite cardboard taste, then some sweet corn, then a weak stale bitterness. There's also some lemon in there somewhere... or is that just the metallic aroma confusing me?
Bit too watery, but carbonation is quite good.
Good for knocking back when you can no longer taste what you're drinking (if you're into that kind of thing). Mind you, there's cheaper beers that are better for that anyway.

Recently, I took a trip to the beach, and this was the only beer for sale. For roughly the equivalent of $2-3 USD, a friend bought a whopping 1 liter bottle, or "caguama". It was poured into a big plastic glass, and I drank from it.

Looks good for such a darn cheap beer. Worthy of being called "Sun".

Smells like corn and chemicals. Ouch.

I have mixed feelings about the taste. Entering your mouth, it is very astringent and fizzy, like other mex lagers but worse. It's not terrible though before swallowing it. But it leaves a nasty aftertaste once it leaves the throat. It doesn't make you puke, but you just frown and you start to feel like spilling it intentionally on the sand.

Feels like an effervescent aspirine that hasn't finished breaking up in the water.

It's not hard to drink...and you'd rather drink it quickly before you can actually taste the nasty chemicals!!!

I guess I couldn't expect any better for such a misery $$ and well, being in a beach in the middle of nowhere. It is a really lousy brew which could really use a lot of improvement.

So, even if you're in a tropical beach tanning yourself with the sun and begging for something to refresh you, I still don't recommend it.

This is probably one of the beers I drink the most all year round. The archetypal "Mexican" beer with its unmistakable main characteristic: it is L I G H T!

I almost always prefer it to its cousin (the "Corona Extra") because it is cheaper but of similar quality. I also like its history with the warranty of the founding German brewmaster.

Most people hate its color, actually I like it! It is pale yellow, typical for these kinds of beers with transparent bottles. Beware of storing them in the sunlight.

It doesn't smell much, so you could even skip this part unless you have placed a lime slice (I usually don't, however). Its taste is surprisingly nice: fresh and lightly acidic, great to accompany plates of pasta, fish or salads: anything that is relatively uncomplex, as this beer is. Don't expect to be flabbergasted by this lager though...

Drinkability?! Almost excellent because of its price and freshness. Love it!

Pours a straw-gold color with a two-finger head that fades down to a one-finger head.

Aroma is light and grainy with only a drop of cooked corn in the nose. A bit of sweetness is detected.

Taste is grainy and mildly sweet upfront with a bit of corn. Doesn't really taste skunked though.

Mouthfeel is full of lingering corn and sweet/grainy malt. Inoffensive. Doesn't really register on the taste buds.

Your average Corona wanna-be. The exception is that I can actually keep this down while I'd be spitting out Corona. Average at best.

Appearance: Pours a clear, bronze-colored body with a tall, white head.

Smell: Grainy, cheap malts with a light waft of skunk and more than a whiff of yellow corn and chemical additives.

Taste: Substandard, stale, grainy light pale malts with a light sweetness. Icky chemical soaked corn. Light hop bitterness. Finishes dry.

Mouthfeel: Thin-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Drinkability: Dreadful and quite sol-crushing. Some of these mass-produced lagers can be quite serviceable, some just bland and forgettable, and some are downright awful. Sadly, Sol is one of those awful, awful lagers.

Guess we'll have to have two reviews - one with a lime and one without (my rating numbers are kind of a mashup of the two).

With lime:
Pours crystal golden with slight fizzy head, which the lime juice seems to kill. The lime seems to impart a slight haze to the beer. Smell has a little grain, like a weak pilsner, with lots of citrus. Flavor is mostly lime, though there is some decent malt and, dare I say it, a little hop character flickering on the finish. The citrus overwhelms the beer, even in small amounts, but it does make an interesting contrast with the slightly bitter grainy flavor. The mouthfeel is thin, though not negligible. Not terrible, especially if you're sitting on a warm beach.

Without lime:
Pours crystal golden with a fizzy head that falls fairly quickly but actually leaves a little light lacing. The aroma is surprisingly strong, grainy and sharp, like a decent adjunct lager, with maybe just a hint of hops, kind of flowery, though passingly faint. The flavor is better than one might expect, with some actual malt and that distinctive light-struck bitter edge. The mouthfeel is very light, but there is a little tingle of carbonation.

So is Sol a great beer? No way. It's a cheap beach beer. But a good cheap beach beer.

Does the lime help? Maybe. It does give the beer some extra zing, but it clearly kills some of the carbonation, which gives the limeless beer an interesting tingle and more head than one might expect from this sort of beer.

Either way, it is highly drinkable for what it is.

A minimalist would love how this beer looks. Head formation (< 1 finger), retention, and lacing are all very weak. The beer is translucent and nearly devoid of any sense of color; I suppose you could call it a very, very, very pale yellow though.

It smells like a cheap college beer. More specifically, the aroma is a not-so-subtle mix of corn husk, grain, and alcohol. There really isn't much to say here.

This brew is quite bitter; a hoppy "bite" accompanies the overwhelming tastes of corn and alcohol. Some others below have mentioned this, but there is definately a metallic aftertaste of sorts. There really isn't anything other than that with which to make a comparison of "balance." Again - not much to say.

Almost no body exists. This is a very light beer that almost feels like a mildy carbonated form of water. I guess this makes it easier to drink.

If this beer has a redeeming characteristic, then this is it. The textures make this a slammer. You had best do this, because I couldn't fathom why anyone would want to sip on it to "appreciate the flavor."

This beer seems to have one purpose - it will get you drunk. I made the comparison to college beers earlier in my review, and this is probably the most simplistic way to describe it. I've had several Mexican beers that are better than this, but it does have a purpose. If you're looking for something to slam while you're either grilling or throwing a fiesta, then this is the beer to get, but if you're trying to pick up something nice then I suggest you choose something else.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pale yellow in color. Small head with no lacing and minimal retention.

Smell: Wheat, corn, water. A touch of lemon is as far as this beer goes in the aroma department.

Taste: Yuck! Metal is the first thing I spotted. Corn and water make up this sad beer, I actually like Corona and Modelo but this is a disgrace. The metal aftertaste makes this a huge dissappintment.

Mouthfeel: Light and carbonated, no real body to this, water consistency.

Drinkability: This beer is awful, Im pretty fair in my reviews but this beer misses the mark entierly. Taste like a mixture of corn, water and metal. If your going for this style, do yourself a huge favor and get a Corona, this is the worst Mexican beer Ive ever tried. Absolutley pitiful.

Appearance from within this 1qt. clear bottle is a light golden yellow that leaves no head in the glass. Smell of light corn, malt with not much else to it. Taste has sweet corn and a light hop and seems pretty watered down with a light mouthfeel. Not much depth to it, but a great thirst quencher on those hot lawn mowing days.

Funny story: This is a beer I probably would have never tasted, but one night after work I stopped by my bank to deposit money and on the curb was an unopened bottle of this. Being as cheap as I am, I took it home.

Poured from 12oz bottle into 12oz glass mug

Appearance: Pale gold with a medium sized white head that surprisingly has a bit of staying power.

Smell: Mells grassy and corny and good amount of malt

Taste: Tastes sweet with flavors of corn and maybe some citrus.

Mouthfeel: Feels very thin and very flat.

Drinkability: I'm glad this stuff was free. I doubt I'll have it again. It may have just been because my beer was outside (I don't know how long it was there), but this just seemed stale and crappy.

"Thanks" to bort for giving me this brew as my ugly in the Good, Bad, and Ugly BIF. Pours the color of urine with a thin head. Not much smell except maybe corn. Does not have much taste at all which is better than a kick in the balls bad taste. Mouthfeel is OK & it is drinkable in the same sense as water. I was afraid this would be a lot worse. Not a drain pour but not something you would choose to drink.

Better than Corona but that's not saying much. If in Mexico and it's over 30c / 85f I'll have a couple but otherwise no. It's too light, little if any flavor, but is drinkable with a lime. Don't go out of your way for this unless you drink swill like Coors as your daily beer.

The only good thing to say about this was that we were drinking ice cold bottles of this for $1 on a 90 degree day in Cozumel. Other than that, it was a pale, thin bodied beer with little nose, flavor or palate. But, it was a nice change from the $5 beers on the cruise ship.

Not something I would go out of my way to drink again.

Another version of Corona I think, actually probably somewhat worse than Corona Extra. A familiar citrusy flavour, but also more of an off-taste, almost like old eggs. Not sure why it had such a funny taste.

Certainly not a beer to go around looking for if I feel like a drink. Also never see it on draught either.

Went to a new Mexican restaurant by my house and had this on tap. It was only 2.99 for a giant 32 oz mug. Just cause it's cheap, doesn't mean I should have bought it.
