Brown in color with a tanned head. Nothing interesting about the look, and the foam is poor. No lacing from this bottle.

Nose is too clean, with a slight skunkiness. Malts are caramelized but only just faintly. Maybe an herbal tea note. Weak.

Same for the flavor. Malt drives the flavor but there isn't a lot. Toasted notes, some black tea, hint of diacetyl, and carbonation notes. Body is light and overcarbonated, finish is super fast.

Hints of hazelnut and coffee save this from being really bad, but it's not far off. Fortunately it's not cloyingly sweet like some other Cuauhtemoc brews...

Poured from bottle into the tallest glass in the condo

A: Pours a dark amber color with a one finger head which is off white with a lot of small bubbles. There is a little bit of lacing, which is better than I can say for most Mexican beers.

S: I get a lot of malt on the nose, a little bit of biscuityness.

T: A lot of malt on the taste as well, there is a hint of lemon and a faint nutty flavor.

M/D: Goes down very smooth, extremely drinkable. More complex than most Mexican beers, probably my favorite, but a little harder to find in stores than most in Mexico. If it is available, its what I am drinking.

Poured from a bottle up to the green tinged rim of a traditional Mexican hand shaped glass. This 'Bohemia Obscura', or 'dark' beer easily won Best of Show for my trip to what I otherwise expected to be a beer wasteland in Puerto Vallarta.

Beer pours a deep copper amber with a half inch of light bubbly off-white head. Retention and lacing are present but thin. Smells of lightly sweet caramel malts with a bit of woody hops.

Tastes of smooth malts with nutty caramel and lingering coffee undertones. Feel is quite nice. The light coffee sticks around in the finish and is met with some malts for a balanced close. Not very sweet and light on the tongue with just the right amount of carbonation. Easy drinking. Dark and reasonably complex yet smooth, making it well suited for the typical weather of its homeland.

Certainly the best beer from Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma, i know it as the caramel beer.

A: Dark amber color, small head of foam that contrasts with thier blackness, acceptable lacing;

S: Malt with notes of toffee and biscuit;

T: Sweet malt, with notes of nuts and chocolate;

M: Refreshing, high bitterness, medium body and high carbonation;

D: Is true that is uncomparable.

From my trip to Cancun a few months back.

Nice creamy head sticks around for a bit with some nice lacing, clear orange auburn red color.

Nose has a fairly cheap macro lager, but some nice malts, light crystal and fluffy dark malts, light skunk and metallic twinge. Hints of fruit and even toffee malt.

Taste starts with malts, darker malts, caramel, molasses, toffee, etc. then light lager, hint of lager fruit, and some bad lager, macro sweetness, light skunk metallic flavor, light powdered caramel like flavor. Finishes dry, bitter unhappy lager and light skunk, hint of caramel and brown malts. Nougat chocolate creamy taste too.

Mouth is med bodied, decent carb.

Overall interesting but not great, some decent malts but skunked bad lager.

Poured into a pint from a 325ml bottle.

A: Translucent dark amber, small head and some thin lacing on the glass. Not a bad looking beer.

S: Smell is the greatest turn down in almost all mexican macros. People drink out of the bottle most of the time, but once you pour this beer into a glass, the semi rancid aroma steps up.

T: Light roasted malts, some dry wood and some sweetness. Finishes a little seet.

M: Light body, medium carbonation.

D: As a macro, drinkability is high. This is a little bit more expensive than most of mexican macro beers, and could be the best of them. Very good to pair with spicy mexican food.

A - Pours a reddish brown color with a little white head.

S - Malt, chocolate, barley, wheat, licorice.

T - Metallic taste with roasted malt and wheat. Alcohol and water and kind of a citric tones with bitter aftertaste.

M - High carbonation, crisp and bitter aftertaste. Leaves your mouth and back of your tongue dry and the bitterness makes you want another sip.

Overall, a good beer among all of the popular Mexican beers out there; one of the best but not for much. It's great for a dry and hot weather, like those in a typical Mexican summer. Highly recommended if you come to Mexico and want to taste something different and better than Corona.

A new beer from CCM, deepy red color almost like copper;

same graphics like its twin bohemia; new bottle; in general is a beer like casta premium or conmemmorativa 2006; i try with some seafood and bluecheese dip;

served on a pilsner glass; boiled hops and a malty aftertaste; round and large mouthfeel; good beer;

85% recommended.

Another bottle picked up at a local shop in Tulum. Continuing my exploration of Mexican beers, in the hopes that I'll find something I like.

Pours a deep amber with an orange tint. Clear, with one finger of off-white head. Decent retention and lacing.

Smell is quite faint. Toasted malts, a bit of hazelnut, and a touch of coffee. Not bad, but pretty light on the aroma.

Taste is good. Nice malt base, with some light plum flavors, brown sugar, and a mild nutty presence. Finish brings a mild bitterness that lightens it. I like it.

Mouthfeel is okay. Medium-bodied, rather buoyant in the mouth, like it's expanding once it hits my tongue. Medium carbonation that's pretty persistent - mostly big bubbles that bounce on the tongue. Works well for this beer.

A pretty good beer, all things considered. So far, it's the best of the local options I've had. I'll continue exploring other Mexican beers, but I suspect I'll come back to this one.
