This is a good, solid bock-type lager, quite enjoyable with pizza.

Brown copper, it has a big pale tan head slowly shrinking.

Aroma caramelised barley, caramelised bread crust, yeast, pine crust, woody herb, hint sulphur.

Taste is nice, sweet toffee, caremlised bread, hint of wine up front, drier toasty finish, light leafy-woody finish. It has a bit of a basic, mass-produced quality but it is very good, full-bodied in character and very enjoyable.

I think this is just an adjunct lager with a little caramel coloring. If this is rated as a bock, it's pretty much at the bottom of the barrel. Back in the 1970s, we used to be happy to see this stuff around the holidays. It was dark, which made it special. But I also think that back in the day Noche Buena had a sweeter, slightly richer caramel taste.

This just tastes faintly of caramel malt and surprisingly bitter. Maybe with the price of hops the less-particular of the industrial brewers are using some rock bottom variety that gives a little bitter zing without breaking the budget.

The mouthfeel is quite spritzy and tastes like club soda. Dark amber color in the glass. The typical wet cardboard smell. From the bottle into a plastic cup at the neighborhood street celebration. At least I still have my memories.

A- Clear dark red amber body with a light tan foam cap.

A- Caramel and biscuity malt aroma.

T- Grainy sweet caramel flavor. Light balancing bitterness. Some phenolic flavors that makes the caramel flavor taste somewhat sweeter and old. Mostly clean finish with a sweet phenolic seat belt taste. Actually the aftertaste reminds me somewhat of non set jello.

M- Medium body, low to medium carbonation.

D- An ex left me this beer. It was better than I expected. Don't fear drinking this, but don't seek it out.

the beer pours a dark brown color with red tints, the head was off white and reduced to a filmy layer.

It smells of caramel and spice with a slight metallic scent, the aroma is pretty good. It tastes similaar but with mre metallic flavor, I also tasted more caramel and some light grassy hops. The beer has a light feel with plenty of carbonation and a slightly dry-lingering finish.

I was very impressed with this beer, mostly because the store by my house sells it for $3.99 a six-pack.

Beer pours a deep copper color with a modest cap of foam that dissipated quickly. Sweet grain and tobacco in the aroma. More sweetness on the palate, too much. Some bready notes mix it up until the beer moves into a vacant center and finishes with a touch of bitterness and metallic twang.

Not the best bock out there, but not bad for south of a south of the border bock.

From bottle...poured in small tulip glass.
Copper brown color. Small head.
Aroma of toasted malts, toffee, caramel, tobacco.
Significant carbonation...modest mouthfeel.
Flavors of medium sweet malts, minerals, citrus, water. More malt than light Mexican beer have, certainly, but light compared to Christmas - Holiday beers, or as it says "Estilo Bock." All in all, compared to the big beers I drink I would call this a session brew with slight caramel malt body.

Poured a crystal clear amber hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured sweet corn, light caramel and a grassy hop.

The flavor likewise featured a sweet adjunct with some deep earth tones and cleaned up with a grassy hop.

The mouthfeel was toward the thinner side of the style.

Overall a pretty decent bock. A nice surprise.

This beer is difficult to grade.

#1- If compared to other Mexican macro beers, it would be one of the best of class.

#2 - If compared to American adjunct style Bocks (i.e. Shiner Bock), it would be slightly better than average.

#3 - If compared to German style Bocks, it would be sub-par.

Since the price was relatively low, I'm going to compare i to category #2.

Smells just like Shiner Bock but with maybe a tint of more hops.

Very attractive in the glass. Nice brown with purple and orange undertones. Perfectly clear with a white, quickly disappearing head.

Flavor is fairly sweet but with a dryer finish. A little bit of hops. A very little bit of spices. Some metallic/adjunct notes that distract from the final product.

Medium mouthfeel. Relatively smooth with appropriate carbonation.

This beer is respectable but not great.

One last note --- this beer is brewed in one of my favorite cities, Monterrey, NL, Mexico.

Poured from a bottle into a pilsner glass.

A - Clear amber with fizzy one-finger head which dissolved quickly. Surprisingly sturdy rings of lacing.

S - Mild aroma of lightly toasted grains and lager yeast.

T - Dextrin sweet graininess forward, with some spicy pilsner-esque hops taking over in the finish, also adding the slightest hint of fruitiness. A pasty taste starting in the mid-palate suggests the presence of adjuncts. Not offensive, but not good either.

M - Light bodied, with prickly carbonation. Appropriate for the taste profile. Probably the best thing about this beer.

O - Mild, inoffensive, and unimpressive. Definitely not a good representation of the style. Adjunct/dextrin tastes spoil what may have had some potential.

Clear, brown colored lager with an amber glow. Thick bubbles of carbonation stream upward from the bottom of the glass. The foam is off-white, about a half-inch thick to start, holding nice as a thin film never completely dissipates. Clean, mild aroma with a light doughy sweetness. It's nice but faint, and I would like to get a bit more from it.

The taste has a light bready zest, with a hint of fruit. Subtle bitterness at the back. Not much to be real thrilled about. It's all a bit watered down and ultimately doesn't hold my attention for long. Medium body, average carbonation. Tastes mild in alcohol strength.

Overall a decent Bock beer, nothing special but relatively well made.

smells clean in glass, malt.

red brown amber color through glass, filtered.

lacing is fine, head is not super prominent.

taste is sugary sweet, malty.

crisp on tongue.

no hop taste or smell that i can really detect...

This is an ok beer, but the overly sugary aftertaste detracts for me. Makes me think adjunct.

Reads 5.4% by Vol. on bottle. I have not seen this beer in the stores since the early 80's back then it was one of the best on store shelves. We used to go out of our way to buy this malty beer. I paid $13.99/12pk today oh well...

Appearance- is average deep brown and clear. Pours and holds a good head.
Smell- whisp's of alcohol and caramel
Taste- first taste was cheap alcohol, adjuct grain or sugar then malt finish
mouthfeel-First sip bites you a little, after that it gets a little smoother, finish is dry.
Overall- ok, I put in the american bock catagory not horrible but not of a german breed.
I think its a Dos EquisXX Amber with some boost added to it. It tastes like that exactly.
One of the best beers from mexico
Cheers!

Pours a nice dark, copper-red color and sports a thick, sticky head. Fair malt scent; bright and musty. Decent if unspectacular malt flavor; some caramel; slightly bitter. Clean, dry finish, medium-light body.

A reasonably drinkable, flavorful bock beer. Nothing out of the ordinary but worth a try.

Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: Clear darker amber, light-light bubbles on the body. Head is off-white maybe half a finger's length. After a sip settles slightly uneven lacing.

Smell: Light hop scent, nothing here that you haven't smelled before.

Taste: Here is where it gets a little interesting. I say that in regards you don't see a lot of Latin countries attempt a bock. It comes off lightly malty and maybe a notch sweet. Light hop bitterness that makes it really easy to drink.

Mouth: Smooth, comes off with a toasty finish with its medium carbonation.

Overall: I hate to make promises but this one is at minimum satisfying. Not great not bad, but compliments any meal regardless of style. Drink up fellas (and ladies), Salud!

Served in a flute

A - It is dark amber colored with amber highlights. It is topped with an inch of beige head.

S - The aroma is sweet. It has some caramel and toffee.

T - The taste matches the smell. It is sweet caramel and toffee.

M - Moderate

O - This is one of the least offensive beers that I have had out of Mexico. It drinks easy and the taste is okay. I'd put it with Negro Modelo.

pours out a clear mahoghany colour with a some sparse foam and lace. graininess on the nose with some cocoa and nougat aromas...hints of caramel and ripe fruit, too. smells nice enough. the flavour profile is a touch light in the shorts...it has crisp notes of bock related maltiness...some herbal and spice hop nuances. it notches just above a dark lager, but falls a bit short of seeming like a full fledged bock. the mouthfeel is crisp and a touch metallic, with an overall medium light body. it blurs the line between trying to be easily drinkable and full flavoured.

overall this isn't bad, but nothing really stands out as being special. therefor it falls a bit short of being worth seeking out. glad i got my bottles for free.

Pours out clear dark brown with red hues when held to the light. Head is nice, thick, and with decent retention. Not too much lacing on this one. The nose is grainy with a mix of citrus and floral hops and solid malt backbone. Extremely light on flavor. A little bit of grains and a little bit of metal. Hops are almost nonexistent and the malts have vanished. Mouth feel is watery at best with hints of carbonation. This beer went downhill fast. Never will I buy this again.

A - Poured out a clear, dark brown color with a one-finger, egg-shell white head of foam. It left some sudsy trails of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled malty and somewhat roasty.

T - It tasted malty with toffee and caramel flavors. There was a slight roast character, too.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is a nice bock. Seems different than most German bocks and less sweet than American ones.

2011 edition. gold-foiled 355ml bottle.

It pours a clear reddish brown with a creamy off-white head.

The smell is actually not too bad. It smells like noble hops and some pleasant carmally malts.

The flavor is more of a disappointment, it shows is Mexicaness. It has a it of metal, herbal notes form the hops, some muddled sweetness, and overall not that great.

A - poured with a small head of off white foam on a clear, amber brown body. The head settles quickly and leaves little trace on the glass.

S - light malt with a hint of caramel.

T - caramel and toffee malt up front that remains strong through the finish and combines with a touch of roast character in the finish.

M - medium body, average carbonation, and a dry finish.

D - very drinkable, nothing complex, but inoffensive and about what you would expect from a mexican industrial bock.

Little head on this one and no real lacing on a light amber with slight golden hues hazy body. Aroma is mild. Subtlety spicy and earthy. Flavor is more of the same with brown sugar and caramel malt intermixed.this one is Little flat to me with light carbonation and light body. Overall very drinkable and exactly what you would expect from a bock made on Mexico and actually not a terrible beer though.

12 ounce bottle poured into Efes tulip. 2011 vintage. Pour seems quite still. Zero lacing. Aroma is sweet caramel crossed with overripe banana. Mouthfeel is thin and taste is not offensive but really nothing exciting. Reminds me of a stale Yuengling more than a bock. Like a flat amber instead of a bock. Easy to drink, just not enjoyable.

A - It poured with a transparent amber hue with almost no head whatsoever

S - The scent is of toffee and caramel malts, but there is also a faintly skunky scent at the end

T - The taste follows the nose quite closely, but introduces faint earthy hops to the mix. They're subtle, but there. However, I can't tell if the earthyness is from the hops or if the brew is slightly skunky in general.

M - Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O - It's definitely a middle of the road, easy drinker. There is absolutely nothing about it that stands out as overly bad or good.

2011 bottle.

A: Poured into a beer mug. Very clear dark coppery amber, not a lot of head, little retention and no lacing.

S: Slightly metallic, a bit of grain and burnt sugar. Smells weak but like a bock.

T: Mildly sweet caramel and burnt sugar, dry corn and grain, metallic aftertaste and just a hint of esters.

M: Thin and watery, thin carbonation. Bitter (but not from hops) finish, fairly dry.

O: Drinkable when icy cold, but really not a very good beer. It doesn't seem much different than Dos Equis Amber.
