Typical chestnut brown color with reddish highlights, head is bubbly but nothing to speak of. Nose is similar to the original Negra Modelo but has an accent of herbs and maybe a hint of spicing as well.

The flavor here is, again, similar to the ordinary Negra but includes some additional complexities and nods towards the winter warmer style. Moderate herbal character adds something up front, and the finish, while still medicinally abrupt, is heightened by a very mild herbal note.

A little better than the original, and it comes in 12-packs which is kind of nice. Look for it at your local bodega.

This beer is difficult to grade.

#1- If compared to other Mexican macro beers, it would be one of the best of class.

#2 - If compared to American adjunct style Bocks (i.e. Shiner Bock), it would be slightly better than average.

#3 - If compared to German style Bocks, it would be sub-par.

Since the price was relatively low, I'm going to compare i to category #2.

Smells just like Shiner Bock but with maybe a tint of more hops.

Very attractive in the glass. Nice brown with purple and orange undertones. Perfectly clear with a white, quickly disappearing head.

Flavor is fairly sweet but with a dryer finish. A little bit of hops. A very little bit of spices. Some metallic/adjunct notes that distract from the final product.

Medium mouthfeel. Relatively smooth with appropriate carbonation.

This beer is respectable but not great.

One last note --- this beer is brewed in one of my favorite cities, Monterrey, NL, Mexico.

A - It poured with a transparent amber hue with almost no head whatsoever

S - The scent is of toffee and caramel malts, but there is also a faintly skunky scent at the end

T - The taste follows the nose quite closely, but introduces faint earthy hops to the mix. They're subtle, but there. However, I can't tell if the earthyness is from the hops or if the brew is slightly skunky in general.

M - Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O - It's definitely a middle of the road, easy drinker. There is absolutely nothing about it that stands out as overly bad or good.

smells clean in glass, malt.

red brown amber color through glass, filtered.

lacing is fine, head is not super prominent.

taste is sugary sweet, malty.

crisp on tongue.

no hop taste or smell that i can really detect...

This is an ok beer, but the overly sugary aftertaste detracts for me. Makes me think adjunct.

the beer pours a dark brown color with red tints, the head was off white and reduced to a filmy layer.

It smells of caramel and spice with a slight metallic scent, the aroma is pretty good. It tastes similaar but with mre metallic flavor, I also tasted more caramel and some light grassy hops. The beer has a light feel with plenty of carbonation and a slightly dry-lingering finish.

I was very impressed with this beer, mostly because the store by my house sells it for $3.99 a six-pack.

I was surprised to see this at a Xmas party. At points, the label has a very similar look to that of Bohemia. It comes in a brown 12 ounce bottle, so...on to the beer:

It's got an amber brown color with lasting head and solid formation of lace sticking around. The nose has a little toffee, also some stale malt. Flavor is meh towards the begining; light amounts of toffee crisp, caramel, bread, and a kiss of hops. As the beer warms up these flavors intensify and overall becomes sweeter. This bolder flavor matches well with the mouthfeel which is surprisingly fuller than I thought, and rather smooth.

Here's a sleeper from a Mexican brewing giant. It's a step up from Dos Equis Amber, but Noche Buena is only around during the winter season.

Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: Clear darker amber, light-light bubbles on the body. Head is off-white maybe half a finger's length. After a sip settles slightly uneven lacing.

Smell: Light hop scent, nothing here that you haven't smelled before.

Taste: Here is where it gets a little interesting. I say that in regards you don't see a lot of Latin countries attempt a bock. It comes off lightly malty and maybe a notch sweet. Light hop bitterness that makes it really easy to drink.

Mouth: Smooth, comes off with a toasty finish with its medium carbonation.

Overall: I hate to make promises but this one is at minimum satisfying. Not great not bad, but compliments any meal regardless of style. Drink up fellas (and ladies), Salud!

2003 Vintage.

This dunkel lager poured a clear, iced-tea brown color with tan, creamy foam that settled. The smell was malty with a hint of biscuit. The taste was malty with some biscuit and a very light sweetness overall. There was a touch of caramel with a light hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy with medium body and low carbonation feel. This was a decent lager. Thanks to Borrachito for this one.
