A - It poured with a transparent amber hue with almost no head whatsoever

S - The scent is of toffee and caramel malts, but there is also a faintly skunky scent at the end

T - The taste follows the nose quite closely, but introduces faint earthy hops to the mix. They're subtle, but there. However, I can't tell if the earthyness is from the hops or if the brew is slightly skunky in general.

M - Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O - It's definitely a middle of the road, easy drinker. There is absolutely nothing about it that stands out as overly bad or good.

This beer is difficult to grade.

#1- If compared to other Mexican macro beers, it would be one of the best of class.

#2 - If compared to American adjunct style Bocks (i.e. Shiner Bock), it would be slightly better than average.

#3 - If compared to German style Bocks, it would be sub-par.

Since the price was relatively low, I'm going to compare i to category #2.

Smells just like Shiner Bock but with maybe a tint of more hops.

Very attractive in the glass. Nice brown with purple and orange undertones. Perfectly clear with a white, quickly disappearing head.

Flavor is fairly sweet but with a dryer finish. A little bit of hops. A very little bit of spices. Some metallic/adjunct notes that distract from the final product.

Medium mouthfeel. Relatively smooth with appropriate carbonation.

This beer is respectable but not great.

One last note --- this beer is brewed in one of my favorite cities, Monterrey, NL, Mexico.

the beer pours a dark brown color with red tints, the head was off white and reduced to a filmy layer.

It smells of caramel and spice with a slight metallic scent, the aroma is pretty good. It tastes similaar but with mre metallic flavor, I also tasted more caramel and some light grassy hops. The beer has a light feel with plenty of carbonation and a slightly dry-lingering finish.

I was very impressed with this beer, mostly because the store by my house sells it for $3.99 a six-pack.

I was surprised to see this at a Xmas party. At points, the label has a very similar look to that of Bohemia. It comes in a brown 12 ounce bottle, so...on to the beer:

It's got an amber brown color with lasting head and solid formation of lace sticking around. The nose has a little toffee, also some stale malt. Flavor is meh towards the begining; light amounts of toffee crisp, caramel, bread, and a kiss of hops. As the beer warms up these flavors intensify and overall becomes sweeter. This bolder flavor matches well with the mouthfeel which is surprisingly fuller than I thought, and rather smooth.

Here's a sleeper from a Mexican brewing giant. It's a step up from Dos Equis Amber, but Noche Buena is only around during the winter season.

Served in a pint glass.

Appearance: Clear darker amber, light-light bubbles on the body. Head is off-white maybe half a finger's length. After a sip settles slightly uneven lacing.

Smell: Light hop scent, nothing here that you haven't smelled before.

Taste: Here is where it gets a little interesting. I say that in regards you don't see a lot of Latin countries attempt a bock. It comes off lightly malty and maybe a notch sweet. Light hop bitterness that makes it really easy to drink.

Mouth: Smooth, comes off with a toasty finish with its medium carbonation.

Overall: I hate to make promises but this one is at minimum satisfying. Not great not bad, but compliments any meal regardless of style. Drink up fellas (and ladies), Salud!

smells clean in glass, malt.

red brown amber color through glass, filtered.

lacing is fine, head is not super prominent.

taste is sugary sweet, malty.

crisp on tongue.

no hop taste or smell that i can really detect...

This is an ok beer, but the overly sugary aftertaste detracts for me. Makes me think adjunct.

2003 Vintage.

This dunkel lager poured a clear, iced-tea brown color with tan, creamy foam that settled. The smell was malty with a hint of biscuit. The taste was malty with some biscuit and a very light sweetness overall. There was a touch of caramel with a light hop bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel was smooth and creamy with medium body and low carbonation feel. This was a decent lager. Thanks to Borrachito for this one.

One of the better mexican brews. Pours a deep auburn to caramel, minimal head, off white with little lace or retention. Aroma had cinammon and/or nutmeg, fit the season

Taste, not much for hops or carbonation, but was a smooth malt beer to make up for it, wouldn't call it a malt bomb by any means, but it is a nice alternative to really heavy winter ales. Caramel carries this beer. Wish it was a little more price friendly, but there is no denying it is up there with Negra Modelo in terms of quality.

Poured into a pint glass from a 12 oz. bottle. New 2011 edition of this holiday brew. Pours a deep amber with a hint of copper, quite clear and with a half inch of tan foam. Retention is a bit brief, surrendering to a light cap in a few minutes.

Nose is clean though a bit thin. Touch of ruddy caramel, perhaps a bit of carob and a hint of roast. No real hop aroma but that's just as well given the light malt delivery. Taste is smooth and light, finishing with a lingering yet thin caramel. Roast appears briefly after the swallow along with a bit of spice. Overall certainly lighter in body than I anticipated but quite drinkable and with enough complexity to keep things interesting. Light caramel sweetness and spiciness on the finish with some hops emerging with warming.

Poured from a brown bottle with gold foil seal into a Boulevard Smokestack tulip. No freshness date on bottle but reviewed same day of purchase from a warehouse club sampler case. 2010 Limited Edition (Edicion Limitada, actually)

A: Rich mahogany with a nice cocoa head. Good head retention and nice lacing.

S: Toasted malts, earthy hops, a touch of cocoa.

T: Rich, lightly toasted malts and earth hops. Actually hoppy to the point that it almost outweighs the malt, which was not expected. Caramel notes.

M: Medium-light bodied with decent malt creaminess. More hops dryness than I expect from the style.

O: An above average bock and easily my favorite Mexican beer to date (haven't yet tried Bohemia). Definitely worth it if you're a wholesale club member and you can get the Dos Equis holiday sampler on the cheap.

Got this one at a party, thanks Andy. It almost made up for the crappy movie you made us sit through

The aroma is rather light for a bock, it's malty with a hint of brown sugar. The taste thankfully has more to it, bits of caramel and cinnamon and brown sugar. The body is light for a bock but it's smooth enough. I'd have it again and is probably the best Mexican beer I've had.

I drank this from a bottle into a pint glass in Puerto Vallarta.

It pours a medium brown with a light tan, good lacing and retention.

The aroma is lots of spice with caramal.

The taste is light overall, not what you would think. Mouthfeel is ok, drinkability is ok.

This poured out as a typical looking reddish brown color with a thin cream colored head on top. The head fades and doesn't leave too much on the glass. The smell of the beer had some dark malt aromas with a light element of spice in there. The taste was pretty decent actually. I enjoyed the beers hint of holiday flavor it had. The mouthfeel was drinkable and well carbonated. Overall this brew wasn't too bad.
