Bottled November 6, 2022. Poured out of a bottle into a Willi Becher pint on April 10, 2023.

Look - (4.5) Cloudy honey-yellow with a luscious 1-inch head. Very nice flow of bubbles through the body of the beer. Some lacing.

Smell - (3.5) Not a terribly strong nose. Sourdough and bready.

Taste - (4.5) Taste follows nose. Sourdough up front. Some lemon-y acidity in the middle. Finished with a black pepper note and a hops aftertaste.

I let it warm up a little and sipped some more. A lovely honey sweetness came forward and the spicy note at the end became a bit milder.

Feel - (3.5) Some soda-like carbonation at first. As the beer warmed, the bubbles dissipated and it grew smoother and more velvety.

Overall - (4.5) Easy to drink and refreshing with just enough complexity to keep it interesting. I am new to the world of beer and this has been my favorite pale beer I have tried so far!

poured from a 330mL bottle into a tall new glarus pilsner glass. pours a foggy gold with almost three fingers of white foam that recedes but remains as a thin white foam cap throughout the pour. lively lager yeast, white bread, light lemon and hay on the nose. taste follows with a slightly earthy, bitter hop finish. medium-full mouthfeel with a nice malty presence while still maintaining a lively carbonation. really good stuff. i dig this style in general (unfiltered lagers - how can you go wrong??) but when they’re well executed like this one they’re some of the most enjoyable beers on earth.

The pour is golden yellow with a light amount sediment particles floating around the glass. In addition to, it's well carbonated but the head dies down rather quickly. On the taste, I'm getting some white wheat bread, honey, & a hint of lemon near the finish. Cheers! B

Appearance: Pours a clear, bubbling light golden color with a massive white and yeasty head. SRM of 7. (4.25)

Aroma: Strong and buttery bread aromas. Strong bread malts, diacetyl. (3.75)

Flavor: Strong flavors of pale malts, bread malts. Some buttery bread mixed with yeast. Ultimately finishes dry. (4.25)

Feel: Medium-bodied, strong carbonation, soft, smooth. (4.50)

Compared to Weihenstephaner 1516 10/2022: Pours lighter, paler aromas. More diacetyl, but also light grains and more pale. Less rich bread. Less honey. Dryer.

Compared to Urban Chesnut Zwickel 10/2022: Pours lighter, paler aromas. More diacetyl, but also light grains and more pale. Less rich bread. Less honey. Dryer.

Compared to BlackStack We're Not Waiting 6/2023: Pours similar, stronger aromas. More pear, apricot, grains. Less lemon citrus.

Overall: A very nice drinking zwickel lager. Nice pale malts and pale bready flavors. Some diacetyl, but overall good. I bet fantastic when fresh. Dry. Very soft and smooth. (Rating: 4.16)

the quality of this cannot be overstated, it even tastes fresh to me as the imports go, truly special stuff here, so stoked these bottles have come around here in idhao, i was frankly blown away, and so were my friends, as traditional and good an example of the style as i have had maybe ever. its not as hazy as expected, not sure why i always expect these to be so cloudy, but im sure it feels unrefined to the germans. its just a touch sweet, but in the best possible way, still seems pils malt based, crackery, simple on the malt side, just with a bit more character left in it, earthy and agricultural, even autumnal for being this light overall. i get real delicate floral honey, new oak, and an uncommon hop, even though it still presents as noble, not sure what they use here but its cool, seems almost modern and dry hoppy and even sort of southern hemisphere. the flavor there shows white wine, white peach, and green gooseberry and pear, so peculiar and good. tons of minerals here making it crisp and refreshing even though its off dry, and there is still some bitterness late too. neat mix of flavors here, unique from all elements including the ferment, but super drinkable too. this is a world class example of the style, underrated here on BA, one of the best ive ever had thinking hard. so distinctive in a traditional style, really hard to do! not to be missed. the best parts of a good german pils, and then some!

11.2 ounce bottle, best before end 2022.08.12 stamped on the label. Served in a dimpled mug, the beer pours a somewhat hazy golden color with about an inch or so frothy off-white head that stuck around a while. Good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like bready/cracker malt, grassy hops and some lemon peel. For the most part the taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also a hint of apple and herbal hops noticeable. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's smooth and easy to drink with a good amount of carbonation. I think this is a good overall Zwickl lager, glad I bought a 6 pack!

Bottle Date: 2022.04.30
Consumed: 30 May, 2022
Glass: 0.5L Willibecher
Temp at Pour: 52.5 F

Look:
Hazy straw-to-golden yellow. I can see shadows of my fingers through the glass, but that's about it. Initial 2-finger creamy white head dissipates to a consistent 0.25-inch cover. Good lacing.

Smell:
Light crackery and bread dough. Some grass with a light herbal note. Touch of lemon and honey.

Taste:
Sweet bready malts with honey and some lemon start things off. Then the hops show up with a mild bitterness and some pepper, drying thing out a bit. I can detect some very faint notes of grapes.

Feel:
Soft and smooth with a slightly dry finish. Body is medium-light due (I suspect) to the suspended yeast.

Overall:
A very nice Zwicklbier/Kellerbier. Very drinkable and quaffable. A friend recommended this beer to me. I am glad that he did and that I finally found it.

330 ml bottle. Pours slightly hazy golden with long lasting tall white head. Aroma is of grassy hops and biscuit malt. Body is medium and crisp. Grassy, floral hops nicely balanced on the palate with biscuit malt. Finish is long and dry hoppy. Great brew.

330ml bottle into a pint glass. Best by 4/30/22, so plenty fresh.

Looking very good in the glass. Faintly hazy pale yellow body. Bright white head shrinks to a ring and covering, leaves layers of lacing.

Malty aroma, not musty, but a little off.

On tasting, good hop and malt balance. A little drying. Faint apple note. Slightly sweet, but the dryness sends that packing.

Mouth medium, finish dry with some hop notes left on the tongue.

Overall, nice easy drinking well put together beer. Will enjoy the rest of the six pack.

A tad over carbonated in my opinion.
Crisp, clean but nothing special.
Good beer, but not great beer.

330 ml bottle, Cardinal Pub & Bar,Stavanger. ABV is 5.2%. Hazy pale golden colour (I shook the bottle vigorously to get all the sediment dissolved, which almost certainly enhances the flavour), large white head. Aroma of newmown grass and herbs, a hint of citrus. The flavour is fresh, wheaty-like and citrussy, very refreshing. Some herbal hops, but not very bitter. A great summer beer!
