It pours a cloudy brown with a nice ring of foam. The aroma is much like of a weizen beer (the beer contains wheat). The taste is like a Dunkelweizen much milder. Not too carbonated which contributes to a thicker mouth feel but in reality it's a pretty light liquid. Clean finish.

Surprisingly real balanced. Great carb. Thnner than it looks. Malty richness to the base but no sweet lingering globs of shrupy mat flavor. seemingly no hop character.

First rye beer. It is nice, feels like somewhere between a barley wine and a belgian strong ale. Lower abv than those styles, good carbonation. It was a bit fizzy when I poured it. Has a nice somewhat thick mouthfeel, similar to a winter warmer. Bread like flavors. Good stuff, would like to try other rye beers to compare.

Dark clear raisin color with thick creamy cream colored lacing. Nose is very faint. Taste is light toasted caramel with a slight bit fruit on the back end. Big body and a wet finish. This style isn't my gig.

Pours a murky brown with lazy carbonation and miniscule head, looks and smells like an unfiltered apple cider. Aroma is definitely rye, dark bread, apples. Taste is mildly sour, pumpernickel, apples. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, no sense oif the carbonation at all, and no lingering aftertaste, A tricky beer, and not too many of this sort to compare it to. I’ll give Sudmeister the benefit of the doubt in this one.

A: Pours a slightly cloudy almost opaque dark mahogany brown in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and moderate chestnut brown + ruby red + garnet red colored highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense sudsy foamy light tan head that reduces to a large patch of medium thick film covering a little more than 75% of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Slightly stronger than moderate aromas of dark + caramel + toasted + pumpernickel + spicy rye malts with minimal amounts of sweetness and a light amount of slightly sour dark fruit (cherry). No perceptible hop aroma.
T: Upfront there are moderate flavors of dark + caramel + toasted + pumpernickel + spicy rye malts with minimal amounts of sweetness and a light amount of slightly sour dark fruit (cherry). No perceptible hop flavor and minimal amounts of bitterness. Light amount of cherry tartness linger through the finish.
M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Hints of acidic prickliness.
O: Drinks fairly easily but it lacks the spiciness that I have come to expect in the style and brings a bit more tartness/sourness. Alcohol is well hidden and it is definitely an interesting beer.

Decanted from a 16.9 oz (500 ml) bottle into a conical pint glass; no production information.
A: Pours a slight hazy, dark copper color (red highlights when illuminated) with a 2 inch, foamy, mocha colored head, with limited retention and lacing.
S: Very reminiscent of a plum pudding. Slightly tangy and spicy (pepper and cumin). Aromas of caramel, cocoa, toast, raisins, berry, and figs.
T: Dry and slightly tart. Flavors follow the nose initially, but with a very strong tobacco and leather element that emergences and predominates as it warms. Bitterness strong and contributes to this overall effect.
S: Medium to full bodied with solid persistence of effervescence.
O: Not what I expected, but with a very complex flavor pallet and a very enjoyable one. Will look for this and try other representatives of the style again.

I found this beer in Seattle, first time that I found it. Tastes like a dunkleweiss. I wish that this beer was available in the midwest. I very good beer.

Pours a cloudy, medium brown coloration with a small, creamy head. Smells of sweet, bready malt with hints of orange peel and a faint cherry note. Taste follows the nose, being dominated by sweet bready malt and hints of orange peel, grass and slightly tart cherry, with a faint, spicy rye note coming through as well. Finishes bittersweet, with a light bitterness and some faint spice lingering in the aftertaste. Light body with medium carbonation.
Despite its name, this is actually not brewed with rye only, but barley, wheat and spelt as well, which might explain why it seems to lack that typical rye flavour profile. That certain spiciness is there, but pretty faint and somewhat overpowered by an odd fruitiness of tart cherry. I'm not entirely convinced that this note is intended, to be honest. Slightly watery body as well.

A: The beer appears brown when viewed from afar but when held up to the light it is clear and very dark red in color. It poured with a quarter finger high off white head that hardly died down and consistently covered the surface.
S: Light to moderate aromas of cherries are present in the nose along with hints of sweet and pale malts.
T: The taste is a little sweet and sour with flavors of cherries and pale malts. Hints of spicy rye are also perceptible.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and slightly tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer isn't as spicy compared to other beers in the style, but has an interesting mix of sweetness and sourness.
