Brauerei Bischofshof “ Bischofshof Hefe-Weissbier Hell“
50 cl brown glass bottle coded “Consumir preferemente antes de 11.04.2024 L101 09:25” and sampled on 23 NOV 2023

Notes via stream of consciousness: This is a bit clearer than usual, and not as carbonated, but still golden in color beneath a creamy head of white. The aroma is as expected with a sweetish and wheat malt base and yeasty notes of banana and clove. The flavor follows exactly with just a smear of floral and herbal hops added in, and a hint of apple. A moderate bitterness balances it and it finishes semi-dry with the malt and yeast notes fading slowly. In the mouth it’s medium bodied and gently zesty with a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation. Despite the lower carbonation level (perhaps 2.6 volumes of C02/liter versus 3 or even more) the head still holds up well. Halfway through the glass, however, I have very little in the way of lacing BUT I am drinking from a hotel room glass and that may be the issue. It’s tasty, enjoyable, and perfectly in tune with the Bavarian Hefeweizen style but it could use a little bit of refinement.

Drunk on draught at Wirtshaus Im Heuport in Regensburg in September 2023.

L: Bright apricot-and-peach-yellow with a brilliant white head. Lots of carbonation.

S: Yeasty, overripe apricots and pears on the ground in an old orchard.

T: Bananas, pears and cloves. It was very sweet, tangy and lip-smacking, but it had a slightly watery finish, which lowered my assessment of the beer.

M: More carbonic prickle than expected but otherwise slightly thin.

O: At first, I enjoyed this one, but the longer it went in, the more the thinness of the beer dominated the taste profile.

Cheers!

500 ml bottle, bought in Spain, ABV is 5.1%. Pale golden colour, slightly hazy. Huge white head. Strong and typical hefeweizen aroma of ripe bananas, bubblegum and cloves. Refreshing flavour, again typical h.w. notes of banana and cloves, medium dry.

Tiene una cabeza blanca, grande y espumosa. En aroma se puede observar el trigo, la vainilla y el caramelo. En boca es ligera, refrescante, con un sabor dulce.

From supercor. At home, playing KB Dark Side, in Paulaner glass. Very flat. Boring.

500ml bottle. Weizen glass. Pale deep gold color, foggy appearance. White froth, close crown. Bread, banana & subtle spiced aromas. Pale malty, crispy & bready upfront. Light to medium body. Moderate but lively carbonation. Dense texture & spicy palate. Low bitterness, slight fruity & herbal flavors. Bitter/sweet finish. Refreshing & easy drinkable.

Appearance: Golden, cloudy, typical Hefe appearance. Large head which reduces pretty quickly to a thin layer.

Smell: Wheat, little banana, slightly citrus smell too.

Taste: Fresh, fruity with a very slight bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, standard Hefe mouthfeel.

Overall: Not the best, not the worst Hefe I have ever tasted. Would certainly drink again though. All in all, a pretty standard Hefe.

A: Pours a hazed golden to yellow liquid into the glass. Typical Hefe-Weißbier look. The head is white and thick at first but dissolves into a thin layer after a few minutes.

S: Wheat bread, red fruits, orange peel and a hint of ripe cherries at the end. I can also find some butter and green vegetables.

T: Rather typical for the style. Wheat bread, flour, oranges, some green vegetables and again the ripe cherries at the end. It has nice sour aftertaste with lots of red fruit.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: A nice beer for the style. Nothing exceptional but a stable and good beer. Worth trying.

This beer is exported in Russia under brand "Altmuller". Pours cloudy amber beer with excellent white head. Aroma is spicy and banana. So is a taste, fresh & crisp. Carbonation is good. The mouthfeel is mild, clove, probably citruses with traditional hints of lollipops. Very solid example of classic german weizen.

A: The pour is prototypical hefeweizen: golden orange in color with a fluffy white head.

S: Plenty of bread and wheat. Nicely sweet, a little bit of citrus, and some mild spice. Not too much banana, however. There is a bit of toffee, and some butterscotch, which shouldn't really be there.

T: Bread and butterscotch sweetness up front. Orange and orange peel with a little bit of banana. More bread and a fair amount of wheat. A light lemon zest flavor and tartness to it, too.

M: Medium in body with a medium level of carbonation.

O: Not a terribly good hefeweizen. Butter and tartness shouldn't be there.
