Notes/Commercial Description:
Hula Hefeweizen is a traditional Bavarian-style weissbier that is medium to full bodied with a pronounced banana / herbal flavor and aroma. This unique flavor profile is a result of the special type of yeast strain used to brew this beer.

From notes. On tap in Hawaii.

Poured into a pint glass, it shows the cloudy yellow appearance you would expect, minus the voluminous head. The head is small to medium, fading a bit too fast, with some lacing.
Citric notes, some faint bubblegum, clove on the aroma, with some (also faint) bubblegum, citric fruits and clove on the palate.
Reasonable.

Kona Hula Hefeweizen, ontap @ Kona brewpub restaraunt

Pours a cloudy hazed straw, good sized head and lace. Aroma of citrus, clove, bubble gum, banana. In the flavor, more bubblegum, soft banana and distant clove. A light citrus hop character is there. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, adequate carbonation and fairly smooth. Overall, a good standard hefeweizen good for the warm weather.

I had one of these with lunch/dinner last night. It went well with grilled mahi mahi. I've gotten used to the one Kona ale, so I thought this would be nice (there weren't a lot of choices).

It tasted a little on the light side. In offensive and creamy, like the other Konas. Somewhat disappointing as I wished for a more powerful come-and-get-ya flavor.

It was drinkable enough, but I will seek other local beers to try and avoid this any further.

Gently roused. Pours a thin layer of light caramel head over a super cloudy light puke brown liquid. Smells strong of banana accompanied by a lesser intensity clove. Some malt sweet. Berry esters, cherryish sour and a touch of vanilla.

Tastes malty sweet with banana and very little clove. Wet throughout with a refreshing ester jump in the end and a drying of woody hops, gentle clove, and mild carbonation acrid. Underlying caramel ties it all together. Md-light body and modest carbonation.

A fairly dark amber beer - darker than most hefes, nice banana/clove nose. A little on the burnt side.

First taste is of banana, rather full mouthfeel. Citric bite..but not overpowering, a bit sublime. Burnt malt flavors which compare with many of the great hefeweizens. Banana and clove throughout, just in the same smokey, roasted malt way. The flavors just lean a little too close to smoke than I prefer.

Okay..a much better hefewieizen than you would expect in the islands, not the best here - but a well built beer. Smooth yet rich beer.

Drank at the Kona's Hawaii Kai restaurant.

The usual Hefe appearance, a cloudy straw colored beer. The smell is slightly herbal with banana tones. Somewhat fruity. Not overpowering.
The taste is malty and sweet. Definite banana and fruity. A slight bitterness at the end. Nothing spectacular for a Hefe.
Mouthfeel was cleansing with light carbonation. Overall, not one of my favorite Hefe's. Not something I would try again.
