Poured into a standard pint a deep cola brown with a thin wispy beige head that was gone ver quickly. The Kona coffee really shines in the aroma along with some roasted nut, mollases, and even a passing shot of piney hop, flavors are heavily roasted and coffee-like with some bitter unsweetened chocolate, finishes with some mollases and a bit of earth. Not overly complex but the coffee is nice and it went well with some bbq smoked sausage I had for lunch.

Poured into a nonic tumbler from a 12oz. bottle.

A: Poured a very dark typical porter color, with a paper thin off white head. Lacing was slighty clingly but spotty.

S: Upon opening the flavors were hard to pick up, as it warmed it was sweet with roasted malt and coffee that began to increase.

T: The coffee was present but took a while to characterize itself especially since it is supposed to be coffee infused beer. The malts and coffee were there just not enough as I had expected or wanted.

M: The beer was thinner than I would have liked especially for the style. Much more carbonation than I expected which hurt the overall flavors imho.

D: If you enjoy thinner porters with above average "fizz" you might enjoy this more. I think it is easy drinking but disappointing needs more body.

I don't know what I was expecting with this beer, but it turned out to be pretty good. In a pint glass it was a reddish brown color with a thin tan head. It had a sweet, roasted grain aroma. The taste was sweet chocolate and coffee, mostly coffee. Pleasant mouthfeeel, could drink a few of these.
I used a bottle of this in a short ribs recipe, and the ribs were excellent.

12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with ruby highlights. It has a frothy tan head that quickly goes to a ring that leaves some lacing.

The aroma is roasted chocolate and coffee and some grains.

The flavor is subdued chocolate and coffee with some lactose. The mouthfeel is medium and watery.

Overall, not a bad coffeee porter. It's a nice drinkable brew, but there are better coffee beers out there.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. The label has a bottled on date of "091009" notched on to it and I sampled it on 11-6-09.

Appearance: It pours quite dark with a brown/black color and an average size tan head. The head hangs on well and make nice slippery lace on the glass.

Smell: The aroma is sweet like brown sugar with some roasted and toasted notes as well. Hop notes are very light and subdued.

Taste/Palate: Its flavor has mellow hints of brown sugar, roasted barley, burnt wood, and roasted coffee with cream. The finish comes quickly with some mellow spicy hops and solid dark roasted coffee notes fading off the tongue. It is a light to medium body porter with a creamy texture and lively carbonation.

Notes: This is a very tasty very sweet and easy drinking stout that would make a great session beer or breakfast beer.

Bottle on date: 010511

Beautiful black, thick head forms and slowly dissipates but a full coverage remains on top

The aroma is smooth coffee with a sweet malt backing very smooth coffee aroma

The taste is smooth throughout slight carbonation it starts sweet with a roasted coffee taste enter. A smooth malt trails to a dry coffee bitter finish

A- Pours a near black, near opaque color with a small tan head which leaves light lacing.

S- Not a whole lot there, some sweet malt and hits of cocoa and coffee but not as much as I had expected.

T- Some roasty almost smoke like character with a nice amount of malt sweetness and very subdued coffee character which is barely noticeable.

M- Feels just how a porter should, fairly low carbonation but enough that its noticeable and moderately high in body it sits in the mouth just the right way for the sweetness.

D- Would love for there to have been a bit bolder characteristics in the nose and especially on the tongue but overall its a solid beer I could drink all night.

12oz brown bottle with a packaged on freshness date.

Billowing light brown head towers over the nearly black liquid, good head retention as well. Smells strong of dark roasted coffee, dark unsweetened chocolate and a hint of wood charcoal. Smooth with a lush medium body. Firm coffee flavor from the start holds on to the palate for a long time, firm but not dominant. Malt sweetness chimes in with a quick but faint burnt sugar flavor, then it all goes towards a mild roasted grain tone. The modest hopping lets the coffee shine. Finishes bitter sweet like an iced espresso.

Good stuff here. Certainly not in your face but it does capture the coffee flavor that most brewers seem to miss by either not having enough or becoming too acrid. Very well balanced.

Thanks to skyhand for this one...
Dark brown, bordering black with less than 1/2 finger of off-white head...thin, spotty lacing as I sip away.
Very nice coffee scent with some caramel and chocolate.
Quite tasty...generous robust coffee addition to this brew and very well balanced with the addition of milk chocolate, sweet malt and a hop bitterness.
Not thin in the m/f for the style...a nice breakfast beer if one was inclined to do so.
Easy, enjoyable drinking here...well worth trying.

Appearance: clear, leather brown in color, small head, high carbonation

Smell: roasted malt and coffee

Taste: coffee, toasted malt, dark chocolate and a bit of cream

Mouthfeel: moderate carbonation, sweet, medium-light bodied

Drinkability: This is the best beer I have had from Kona and I wish I could get it more easily here. I could have six. I love the multiple layers of coffee and chocolate. This has a different taste than most in the style.

12oz bottle picked up at Marine Corps Base Quantico with 01--05-11 punched into it poured into snifter.

Appearance - Dark brown, translucent mahogany when held to the light. Small off white head quickly fell quickly to a spotty cap. Some spotting left after a sip, but disappears while you aren't looking.

Smell - Slight coffee and sweet sugary smells, but not very forward in the nose.

Taste/Mouth - Taste is easily the strong point of this beer. Light on the palate with a good malt sweetness and coffee finish. A little high on the carbonation.

Overall - Easy drinker with a lot of flavor without killing you with a high ABV. Would gladly drink this regularly if it was available around me.

On tap at the Plano Gingerman. The beer pours a very dark brown to black color with a tan head. The aroma has is a strong mix of roasted malt and coffee, with not too much else coming through. The coffee also really stands out in the flavor, but there is also some roasted malt and a little bit of chocolate. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

pours a nice dark, the usual porter color with a creamy tan head with average retention and some slight lacing

smell is simple with hints of Kona coffee, its good but nothing worth writing home about

when first taking a sip you notice the roasted grains, but it finishes with a pleasant hints of coffee as advertised. the coffee flavor does not protrude however too much over the other flavors

this beer is very smooth but definitely a sipping beer not for session drinking. great with a burger and fries, or in the morning when you run out of coffee

Single bottle from Knightly Spirits in Orlando. My first brew from Hawaii! Loving the bottle design here. I'm a sucker for Polynesian kitsch, and the label absolutely nails it.

Poured into a nonic glass. Dark chestnut brew, slightly tan round the edges when held to the light. About a half inch of off-white head, decent retention.

Nose is all coffee. My inlaws were recently in Hawaii and brought me back some Kona coffee, and that's what I detect. A bit of nuttiness and roasted malt.

Decent coffee brew, though the coffee flavor leans on the syrupy side. A touch of citrus hops to the finish. Tastes like a coffee porter.

Mouthfeel is lacking here - thin and without that nice silkyness the best of the genre possess. More body really would have helped this brew.

Coffee rules this brew, and as far as coffee porters go this one ain't bad.

Appearance: Dark amber brown. Can't see my finger through glass.
Smell: A sweet coffee caramel with some bitterness.
Taste: Sweet. Hard to describe exactly but pleasant.
Mouthfeel: Good rich mouthfeel.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into tall glass.

Appearance: Very dark mahogany with very thin head that disappears, leaving a fairly flat looking beer behind.

Smell: Coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malts. The coffee smell is not too overpowering.

Taste: Bitter coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malts. Overall, fairly subdued for a Coffee Porter.

Feel: Low carbonation, relatively light body, dry finish. A little too flat and thin (not a good combination).

Drinkability: Easy drinking coffee beer. Nice, but could use a little more body and pizzaz.

Not a big fan of porters, but this one is nice. Almost black pour with a ring of brown bubbles for a head. Aroma is coffee with some cocoa and malt. Great flavor. Not overpowering coffee, but it is there, with a good balance of sweeter malts and some bitter hops. Dry finish.

This beer was poured from a bottle into a pint glass. Pipeline appeared a deep, dark red (almost brown) colour and smelled heavily of coffee and malt. Tasted just like cold coffee; great clean coffee flavour for those who can enjoy and experience the flavour sans heat. Coffee flavours lingered throughout aftertaste but not overwhelmingly.

Would I buy this beer again? Probably.

L: Pours brilliant deep dark brown under a very finely bubbled 1” tan foam collar that hugs the glass.
S: coffee and dark malt aromas.
T: Tastes like a cross between a beer and a carbonated iced coffee achieving a balance between the roast malt and coffee flavors and finishing dry.
F: Medium full body and medium carbonation.
O: If you like iced coffee you will like this beer.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass. Label bottling date of Nov 30, 2012.

Appearance: Pours a deep dark brownish black with a hint of amber. Lots of rising bubbles and a big five finger tan head with good retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A very nice roasty and sweet dark aroma. Dark roasted malts with big hints of chocolate and coffee beans. Also hints of burnt toast, biscuit, grains, caramel, toffee, nuts, milk, and yeast. Some brown sugar sweetness. Subtle scents of earthy and floral hops. A really solid dark aroma that is rich and fairly sweet and nutty. Nice roast coffee scent.

Taste: Like the aroma hints, a solid mix of sweet dark malts and roast coffee flavor. Dark roasted malts with a nice taste of dark chocolate, coffee beans, grains, biscuit, milk, toast, hazelnut, caramel, toffee, and yeast. A fair amount of sweet brown sugar mixes in with the bitter roast. Decent undertones of floral and earthy hops in the background. Nicely creamy and balanced. Very solid taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy and smooth with a moderate slickness.

Overall: A very good Porter. More coffee forward than typical for the style which is a nice twist. Up there with the better American takes on the style.

Deep dark brown with ruby highlights and an oatmeal colored head that settles out to a low cap of firm looking foam.

Low aroma of roasted malt and coffee.

Rich flavor of dark malt upfront, quickly moving to roasted coffee bean, some cherry tang tartness, and then a woody, oaky, smokey finish. Medium bitterness. Coffee bean flavor lingers.

Mouthfeel is full and creamy, but also tannic and puckery. Average drinkability, the coffee is a little overstated for me, would like more balance.

Dark brown with some ruby threads going through it. Just a little bit of beige head here. Good lacing though. Great bitter coffee aroma.

Taste was great, big and bold roasted coffee, lesser hops and lots of bitterness. But the actual malt bill for this wasn't super heavy or sludgy, like the majority of coffee beers (and there's nothing wrong with that, but I can't be drinking coffee sludge when its 105 degrees that often).

Something with such a coffee and bitter mouthfeel rarely is so drinkable.

Clear dark mahogany with a creamy tan head

Superb coffee flavor and aroma. If you are not already convinced that Hawaiian Kona coffee is some of the best in the world, this beer may convince you. Fantastic coffee aroma and flavor with a perfect balance of sweet and bitter ...meaning less bitter than most coffee beers.

O - best coffee porterI have had.

Had this on-tap at Manuel's Tavern in Atlanta.

Pours one shade from black with a one-finger tan head. The head recedes into a thin pancake on top leaving light lacing.

Smells of light amounts of coffee with lots of chocolate milk mix aromas. As it warms the coffee and roasted malt aromas are more prevalent but are still stuck behind a milk chocolate aroma that's a bit too sweet.

Tastes similar to how it smells, though the chocolate flavors taste even more convoluted. Fake chocolate and butterscotch flavors up front carry all the way through until a slight coffee bitterness comes in at the end.

Mouthfeel is good. It has a nice thickness with moderate carbonation.

Drinkability is not good. I didn't even finish my glass and would certainly not order another.

Overall this was lacking. I was hoping to be surprised here after some of Kona's other beers were above average, but this just didn't do it.
