Appearance: Hazy medium golden, with a modest off-white head, merely a scattering of foam on the surface, and thin, scattered lacing.

Aroma: Lightly toasted, fresh wheat bread slathered with tropical fruit jam.

Taste: Opens with prominent tropical fruit, as the taste progresses, the sturdy wheat malt backbone is prominent. Later in the taste, grassy hops dominate. Finishes with a lingering, slightly earthy bitterness.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, and full, with champagne-like carbonation.

Drinkability/notes: An intriguing departure from a classic style.

Presentation: Packaged in a standard twelve-ounce brown glass long neck bottle with a pry-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.

A: Pours a hazy straw color with a white head.

S: Orange, citrus peel, pine, passionfruit and papaya in the nose.

T: Taste is similar with orange peel, fresh orange, wheat, passionfruit and papaya. Tropical fruit is not as present as I'd like.

M: Medium bodied and somewhat smooth.

O: As I mentioned, I'd rather there was more tropical fruit flavor, but I'm glad it's there. Recommended, and definitely worth a try.

Poured 12 oz beer from bottle into a Samuel Adams Boston Lager pint glass.

"Wailua is Hawaiian for two fresh water streams mingling. This was just the inspiration we needed for our Aloha Series Wailua Ale brewed with tropical passion fruit. A refreshing, citrusy, sun-colored ale with the cool taste of Hawaii."

A - Light and golden. Small head that leaves a nice lace around the top

S - Fruity aroma. Can smell the wheat/passion fruit.

T - Sweet, wheat flavor with a fruity kick.

M - Nice body with a little tart aftertaste

O - Good, but not great. It came in a mix pack and I actually liked every beer in the mix pack. If you have a chance, pick one up. I wouldn't buy this beer specifically again, but I would definitely buy the mix pack again!

Pours a very pale straw in color, quickly dissapating head that left a soapy thin ring around the glass. Lightly floral in the nose, delicate fruit and grain scents. Flavor itself is very delicate and mild, almost light lager in mouthfeel with how thin it is. Floral and almost lightly purfumey flavors, watered down fruit punch at the end with a high carbonic bite. Hides its 5.4% ABV very well as it tastes like a light beer, in nose, flavor and mouthfeel. Unexpected bonus for light beer drinkers, but a disappointment for someone who was looking for more.

This brew, poured into a goblet, pours a clear golden color with a thin head which dissipates quickly but a small bit of the head sits on the top of the brew until the end. Very little lacing.

The smell is light and fruity, wheat and sweet malts. Maybe a bit of an orange smell

The taste is fruity and sweet. High carbonation and very little peppery hop bitterness on the back end. Maybe a little bubble gum taste; nothing really stands out.

The mouthfeel is clean and smooth, tangy due to the carbonation.

Overall this is an okay beer. It would be good on a hot summer day. I would not look to this as an example of a wheat beer; there are so many better wheat beers out there. It tastes and smells more like a plain American adjunct lager.

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/3 inch head of a white color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of wheat, pale malt, slight sweet malt, hint of hops, and an earthiness. Fits the style of an American Pale Wheat Ale. Mouth feel is smooth and clean, with a low carbonation level. Tastes of wheat, pale malt, slight sweet malt, hint of hop, and a plant/earthiness. Overall, good appearance and feel, with a decent body and blend.

Enjoyed this 12oz bottle out of a Belgian tulip glass.

A: Pours a light golden hue with a thin white head that slowly dissipates leaving a decent trail and a wispy persistent lace.

S: Wheaty fruity aroma.

T: Sweet wheat flavor with a mild fruity backbone.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: Just a so-so brew for me – nothing I would grab again.

I like that it is different. I can taste the passion fruit (or some sort of fruit) and rather enjoy it. It is refreshing and I could see myself drinking a few of these throughout an afternoon if it was being served.

With all that being said, I am not sure that I would be excited to order it if it was on-tap at a restaurant or bar. I would, however, tell a friend it is a decent and refreshing beer. Nothing too harsh or bitter about it.

Pineapple-gold made cloudy with unfiltered wheat. A thin sheet of soft white fluff fizzles away in just a few seconds.

Light, soft, fruity, tropical nose. Passion fruit, pineapple, papaya. A soft floral hop hit. Tangy, a bit of wheat.

Passion fruit, pineapple, a touch of vanilla. Like a passion fruit creamsicle -- vanilla arrives at the swallow and plays off the passion fruit. The fruit is very, very subtle. Fruity, smooth wheat is more readily noticeable. Crisp, dry finish. Touch of floral hops, maybe orange blossom.

Light body, high pinching carbonation. Sharp, prickles the tongue painfully. But there's not a ton of effervescence. Subtle lingering bitterness. Crystal-clear, whistle-clean finish.

As American pale wheats go, it's okay -- just lacking in character. Dry, refreshing. A little more fruit would be appreciated. Yeast contributes little. A good introductory wheat beer, but nothing a beer geek would get excited about.

I'm not going to waste my time with a long review. Poured from a bottle from a 6-pack, into a tulip glass. I had higher expectations for this beer. It poured a nice golden yellow with a decent head that held for a few minutes. It had faint smells of passion fruit and citrus, so I was really excited. It tasted like someone squirted an unripe passion fruit into a can of PBR. Such a let down. The passion fruit taste faded quickly. Very carbonated, so it probably masked some unappealing tastes, even when it warmed up in the glass. I would not buy again, and luckily my wife has some coworkers over that will probably finish off the rest of my 6-pack.

12oz bottle split into tulips -

A: Clearly filtered straw/gold with a touch of chill haze and a wispy white head with no lace.

S: Crisp bready notes with hints of fruit and wheat, malt sweetness, touch of mint?

T: Fruitiness interwoven throughout malty, wheaty bread. Sweeter edge, crisp bodied but the flavors finish with an odd fruit note.

MF: Crisp and light bodied with ample carbonation.

O: Pretty plain Jane brew...thought this was a lager as I sipped. Drinkable but unremarkable.

Appearance: Golden yellow with ok carbonation. Thin ring of lacing.

Smell: Passion fruit and mango.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Hint of fresh passion fruit. Fairly bitter for a wheat. Mouthfeel is definitely thin and almost has the consistency of juice with a resiny feel.

Overall Drinkability: I actually kind of liked this. Very summer beer. Definitely competes with a Leinie shandy.

Appearance: Straw yellow pours a good head with decent lacing.

Taste: Wheat and passion fruit.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, creamy, slightly sweet but bitter aftertaste.

The verdict: Different. The passion fruit gives it a tropical sweetness I'm not used to in a beer. My tongue isn't quite sure what to think of it yet. Good balance, the fruit isn't overpowering at all. There is plenty of malt flavor and hop bitterness to remind you that you're still drinking a beer.

Type: 12-oz. bottle
Glass: Firestone pint glass
From: Vons in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $12.79 for a variety 12-pack
Purchased: June 15, 2013
Consumed: June 15, 2013
Misc.: Born on date of April 25, 2013

Poured a pale clear color with about one finger of offwhite head that dissipated rather quickly. Minimal-to-no lacing on the sides. Poor retention on the way down.

Smelled pilsner or maybe lager notes from the beginning. Got skunky malts, honey, caramel, grass, bread, cereal, lemon and honey. Also a little bit of a fruity whiff.

Tasted tropical notes first. Got mango, melon and a bunch of other tropical stuff that I couldn’t out my finger on. Reminded me slightly of the old Tropical Fruit Bubble Gum. Also got honey, lemon grass, bread and cereal.

Light body. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Abrupt watery finish. Clean, crisp and refreshing.

The taste was the best part of this beer, but overall it was closer to average. I won’t try it again after this variety pack.

No freshness dating

A= Pours a nice translucent yellow color with a thick two fingers of typical wheat style head that is bone white. The lacing on the side of the glass is great.

S= The smell is filled with poopy wheat and a nice sort of semi sour passion fruit aroma. This is my third time having this beer and my first really taking note of it's characteristics and the passion fruit in the nose surprised me. Never noticed it before despite the bottle saying it's there.

T= The taste matches the nose quite nicely. A big poopy wheat flavor comes through and the passion fruit hits the tongue right up front before being swallowed by poopy wheat. The passion fruit is less "fruity" and more of a slight sour flavor. It's not like this is a sour beer but the passion fruit definitely plays a little sour role.

O= This is a solid beer for summer. I think I'll be buying more actually. A nice tame beer but when you take the time to peak at it it's pretty fun. The more I get through it the more the passion fruit flavor comes through. Check this beer out for sure.

A: Pours a pale, fizzy yellow with a finger of head at pour. Some traces of carbonation remain on top through consumption. No lacing really present.

S: Strong wheat nose - really nice. Faint citrus.

T: One dimensional. Refreshing for a warm day - wheat presence but not much else going on here.

M: Light as expected. Carbonation disappates quickly.

O: Alright.

Not really overly thrilled with the mixture of fruit in a beer, so I was not sure what to expect. The passion fruit was not dominant over the wheat so it was not a bad choice. Probably will not buy it again; but I enjoyed the taste of a newly found beer.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

A: Light golden color. One finger of head. No lacing

S: Tropical fruit mainly, a small amount of banana and wheat.

T: The first taste is malt, wheat, followed by the taste of fruit and a small amount of sweetness, finishing with some faint hops. Alcohol is well masked

M: An appropriate amount of carbonation for the style. Medium-light body.

Overall: As far as "fruit" beers go, this one gets it about right. The fruit is present, but without tasting like a "flavored malt beverage"; it mainly adds some depth to the taste of a pale wheat beer. A good summer brew.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.

Appearance: Pours a bright golden yellowish orange with a lot of rising bubbles. Solid three fingers of white head with good retention. Leaves a decent amount of lacing.

Smell: A fruity and fairly tart wheat driven aroma with good hints of citrus fruit. Wheat upfront with hints of grains, biscuit, cracker, and yeast. Solid hints of tropical fruit including hints of the passion fruit along with pineapple, grapefruit, lemon, orange, tangerine, and kiwi. Also some floral hints. Smells crisp and very wheat and citrus forward. Pretty decent aroma.

Taste: Like it smells, a wheat and tropical fruit driven taste with citrus esters. Crisp wheat upfront with tasting notes of biscuit, grains, crackers, and yeast. Juicy and tart tropical citrus fruits including notes of passion fruit, lemon, pineapple, grapefruit, orange peel, tangerine, and kiwi. Light floral hop taste as well. Taste is moderately sweet and fairly tart. Decent.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Crisp, creamy, and very smooth.

Overall: A pretty decent summer wheat ale. Nice tropical fruit esters. Not much to it other than the wheat and fruit, but it tastes good.

I bought this at the Binny's store in Bloomingdale, IL as part of a build-your-own six pack for $9.99, making them $1.67 each. 12oiz brown bottle with a freshness date on it, but mine was so faint I couldn't make it out. The store marked it as a "new arrival" so I figured it must be pretty fresh. Billed as a wheat beer with passion fruit added.

Crystal clear golden color, so it's obviously filtered. 1 finger white head that hangs around awhile, but unfortunately leaves zero lacing.

Smells like wheat with a touch of tropical fruit in it.

Pretty simple - mild wheat flavor with passion fruit added. Low herbal bitterness (14.5 IBU's) from the millenium hops, and that's about it.

Very light bodied with medium carbonation. I was afraid it might be syrupy or sticky from the passion fruit but it's not. It's actually kind of watery.

There's nothing wrong with it, but it didn't wow me either.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

The embossed bottle advertises this stuff as "liquid aloha", and I hope it keeps that promise. This stuff pours a clear pale straw topped by a finger of white foam. The nose comprises successive blasts of dry, funky wheat, with only a mild twinge of papaya (well, I guess it's really passion fruit, but it seems like papaya to me...maybe mango...you get the point) on the sea floor. Given some time to breathe, though, the fruit comes through stronger, sharper. The taste is basically a low-budget rehash of the smell, with the wheat replaced by straight barley-like grain and the fruit with an analogous powder, not unlike a tropical Kool-Aid mix. Suffice it to say, this direct-to-video remake is hardly a replacement for the original, which, in and of itself, wasn't exactly a classic. The body is pretty light, with a light moderate carbonation and a watery feel. Overall, I applaud the general idea behind this beer, but the execution leaves quite a bit to be desired.

A- This ale is bubbly, clear and yellow. Looks a lot like a typical American adjunct lager.

S- This smells like pineapple, which I like and a blend of other tropical fruits. Must be the passion fruit. There is also a bit of wheat on the nose.

T- This is pretty fruity tasting and fairly sweet. There is some noticeable wheat and hops, which remind you this is still a beer.

M- Slightly above average and a bit like an AAL but better.

I poured this into a tulip glass, it has a nice golden color body with a small thin white head that lays down to a thin lace. The aroma is weak, but does have a slight aray of wheat and fruit.
The taste has a refreshing wheat flavor upfront and then the passion fruit comes in on the middle to back of the tonuge. It is not too sweet, but has a slight bitter to it. The mouth feel is really good, rolls off the tongue nicely and overall a really good beer.

I saw this one and it reminded me of the Coconut Porter from another Hawaiian brewry.

Appearance - A very beautiful yellow and gold lines with and excessively awesome amount of carbonation bubbles that come from the bottom

Smell - Passion fruit along with some other light fruits, though I wish it was a bit more scenty.

Taste - Delicious stone wheat with a nice after thought of fruity goodness. I really like the mix of golden wheat with a light tropical fruit flavor

Mouthfeel - great amount of carbonation to match the flavor and keep a little bitterness that reminds you that it is still a beer

Overall - Now this is a great wheat beer / lambric substitute for the usual.
