Notes/Commercial Description:
Fire Rock Pale Ale is crisp, refreshing “Hawaiian-style” pale ale. Its signature copper color results from the unique blend of specialty roasted malts. The pronounced citrus-floral hop aroma comes from the liberal amounts of Galena, Cascade & Mt.Hood hops added to each brew.

Reviewed from notes.

Served in a weizen glass in the hotel bar.

This beer is a reddish amber color with some white lacing that leaves rings the whole way down.

It's pretty malty, but hops dominate the aroma.

It's got a nice balance of hops and malt. There is a nice alcohol finish.

This beer is medium bodied.

This beer was my 2nd on my vacation. It hit the spot after a long day.

Pours a deep orange colour, almost amber, with a fine but very inconsistent head of white. Large bubbles for on the surface, but don't contribute much to the overarching structure of the head. Body is light in weight. Overall, it looks pretty generic—there's certainly nothing about it that gets me particularly excited.

Nose is pleasant, if mild, with some fruity hop characters coming through, along with a bright chlorine character. Light and bright, but again, pretty generic and simple, and certainly nothing to make it stand out.

Taste is similar, but it does have a pleasant cleanness on the palate and a bite of bitterness on the back. Light fruit characters with a touch of leafy hop presence in the finish. Just enough malt to give it structure, but not enough that you notice any sweetness. Feel is clean.

It is indeed, very standard and pretty generic. But, of course, they weren't going for anything else. It's not a wowing beer, but it's clean and drinkable.

Even if that does also mean forgettable.

12 oz.

Pours a honey gold color with a medium white head that retains as a lacing.

Smells of caramel malts and mild hop.

Tastes like fresh grassy grains with some mild honey malt and subdued hop bitterness.

Feels moderate with a sting of carbonation on the roof of the mouth.

A good tasty pale ale, even flavor and balanced body, nothing to write home about but certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at it either. A worthwhile brew.

Kona Fire Rock Pale Ale: Why drink beer brewed in Hawaii when you live in Colorado? Good question with no answer. The Fire Rock, once in the glass has a burnt copper color which is translucent, thin white head that fades and just a whiff of aroma. The flavor is mostly roasted malt, with not much hop or bitter coming through. Hops must be expensive in Hawaii! Anyway, the Fire Rock is an easy drinking ale. My tastes would prefer some more hops and complexity.

This ale is not so pale.

I was surprised, it poured a dark amber color.
The head was off white and left some lacing on the sides of my glass.

Smells really good. Citrus hops and roasted malts.

The taste is of roasted malts that is perfectly off set by the hop bitterness.

The beer is a little on the heavy side, but easily drinkable.

The mouthfeel is hard to describe. Not watery, not creamy, but has an oiliness that coats the mouth and leaves a bitter but pleasant after taste.

A very good beer.

A - Amber/caramel beer with some tiny bubbles and a one finger head that fades slowly.

S - Malt and citrusy hops on the nose.

T - At first it is slightly sweet from the malt and then you get the hops that are mostly citrus with some floral notes.

M - Light body with medium carbonation.

O - Eh, nothing special, quite a bit of better apa's to be found easily.

Appearance. Pours a clear copper with half a finger of white head.

Smell. Light grains, a little citrus and caramel.

Taste. Light toasty grains, a little citrus and bitter hops. Pretty good.

Mouthfeel Medium body with medium carbonation.

Overall. Good pale ale. Noting too exciting, but a solid pale for sure.

Clean amber, with a rich tan head. Limited, but pleasant spoke lacing.

Nose is malty sweet, with only a slight nod to the citrus hops I'd expect to be prominent.

Taste is well-balanced -- the hops are muted by a profound malt profile.

Tasty, but far less hoppy than other pale ales, Fire Rock is an easy drinker and pleasing, but not stunning.

Bottle into a pint glass.

A- Deep amber, deeper and not as clear as I expected. A half inch of head that dissipated quickly and leave little lacing.

S- Biscuity roasted malts, balanced out by floral hops. Again, not what I expected.

T- Again, biscuity roasted malts with a slight sweetness. Balanced by floral, herbal hops but not much bitterness. Clean finish with a slight dryness.

M- Medium bodied with nice lifting carbonation.

O- A pleasant departure from typical pale ale. Could maybe use a little more bitterness; but it's clean, refreshing and sessionable. I reckon it'd make a good palate cleanser. If I ever am fortunate enough to find my self in Hawaii I know one beer I'll order with dinner.

On tap at Schooners Patio Grille in Santa Clarita, CA.

Pours a hazy brown with a 1 inch off-white head that fades to a film on the top of the beer. Thin foamy rings of lace line the glass on the drink down. Smell is of bread/biscuit-like malt and some subdued hop aromas. Taste is of citrus zest and floral hops up front with a solid malt backbone. Mild bitterness on the palate after each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp and clean mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good pale ale with a nice balance between the malt and hops in the taste.

355ml bottle bought online from Beersofeurope.co.uk

Poured an amber colour. Light tan head poured quite loose and faded quickly to almost nothing... barely any carbonation and very little lacing...

Aroma - Grassy and piney hops, good caramel maltiness, faint nuttiness, some light buttery traces, ground pepper, floral honey notes, some herbal hints, some saltiness, grapefruit and citrus fruitiness...

Taste - Quite malty first then the piney and grassy hops come to the fore... some sweet honey traces, grapefruit and orange fruitiness, toasted bread traces, quite floral, some saltiness, the faintest of metallic notes..

M&D - Quite crisp and dry... light / medium bodied... Very refreshing and drinkable and pretty sessionable...

Overall - A pretty decent APA - nothing groundbreaking just a good, clean well made APA... recommended...
