This beer takes me back to the Hawaiian isles, where there are hundreds of thousands of coconut trees lining the dusty streets. There was a decent amount of foam, which topped the deep copper coloring. The coconut aroma filled the air as I took the first sip. For a brown ale this was surprisingly malty. But the second, third, and fourth sips really brought the beer to life. Under the malt came more coconut, and then a little bit of hops came out from beneath the layers. I enjoyed this brew, but some may find it a bit too sweet for a brown. A definite must if vacationing in the tropics of the Pacific Ocean.

Appearance: Ruby-brown with lots of foam. Little carbonation. Fairly thin.

Smell: Creamy coconut. Extremely unique.

Taste/Mouthfeel: Root beer, coconut, and some coffee. Very creamy and better when it warms to room temperature.

Overall Drinkability: An outstanding beer. Excellent tropical feel for a dark beer.

Deep reddish brown in color with perfect clarity. Poured with a dense light beige foam that quickly dissipated to a wispy cap. Molasses and roasted mt aromas with an unmistakable sweet coconut aroma throughout. Medium bodied with rich, pleasant carbonation thru the middle but thins toward the finish. Sweet coconut flavor up front with a brief tangy bitterness in the middle followed by sweet molasses and roasted malt though to the end. Finishes semi-dry with a sweet coconut aftertaste. Very unique.

I had this on bottle at a party in south san francisco. the beer definitely hits between a subtle coconut flavor and a sweet malt, mixed with caramell.

on first sip, a strong whiff of coconut comes in with a strong finish of hops, well balanced and not overly sweet coconut

comes in a bit carbonated and finishes pretty smooth, this would be a great summer beer during any hot summer bbq with chicken or ribs!

Great beer that I have had on tap and in the bottle.
First had @gabf. now on tap here in Boise at 13th street grill.
Love the cocoanut. It is pure bliss with the toasted coming through. I taste a butterscotch in there as well but who knows.
This is a different brown but one of my fav. for my fav. style

A decent session beer. I was able to down an entire six pack with relative ease and no lingering effects. Very mild. Paired very well with BBQ chicken. Bought a second six pack a week later and was left with a consistent impression. I would buy this beer again.

Appearance: a light brown color with a wispy head that breaks apart quickly.

Smell: coconut and brown sugar sweetness is easy to detect.

Taste: mild malt levels here. Coconut is up front with some milder chcoclate and brown sugar tones. Bitterness is mild at best and this beer is a bit on the sweeter side overall.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Lightly crisp to start, smoother at the finish. Aftertaste is long lived as the coconut sweetness seems to linger a while.

Overall: this seems to be a beer to try at least once, but as the glass emptied I was looking for something else on the menu. Overall a bit too sweet for my liking in a brown ale.

12 oz. bottle hand-carried back from islands by neighborhood beer buddy, split into two tumblers, 4.4.11.

Faint tan one finger head over clear reddish brown amber body no visible carbonation or lacing. Nose features toasted coconut ala marshmallows, fainted a bit in the middle and return as it warmed, grassy hops. Taste mirrors nose, interesting, the coconut is not overpowering, provides a pleasant sweetness to this otherwise forgettable brown ale. Mouthfeel is medium, decent effervescence. Not something I'd want to bring into the regular rotation, but a nice change of pace.

Poured from the 12oz bottle into a Stella stem glass. Body is a ruddy brown with reddish highlights, topped by a small amount of creamy tan head. Sweet aroma of toasted malt, toasted coconut, a litttle bit of brown sugar, and just a hint of sweet, dark fruit.
Palate is big on sweet, slightly toasty malt and a hint of fruity hops. Notes of toasted coconut and Hershey's syrup are prevalent. Finish is a lingering sweetness from the rich darker malt profile and the coconut.
Body is creamy and robust, but not too thick. This is, after all, a brown ale, but with much more flavor than the usual English variety. I think this is an interesting twist on what's usually a pretty boring style.

Appearance: Typical of a brown ale...Coca-Cola like with a frothy and foamy one inch head.

Smell: Had a metallic hint to it, along with a smoky roasted nut scent.

Taste & Mouthfeel: Coffee like. Deep and rich. Coconut, chocolate, oatmeal and iron-like flavors come through. Smooth aftertaste with a chalky bite to it.

Drinkability: If your in the mood for an american brown ale and your in Hawaii, then look no further than this beer....belly up to the bar and enjoy from the tap.

appearance - looks like your standard brown ale. thin, sticky lacing down the side of the glass. small, off white head.

smell - smells like malts and coconut. bready and sweet, not much of a hop smell present. pretty inviting. the coconut brewed beers here in hawaii are usually pretty stellar.

taste - pretty coconutty up front, tastes more like mature coconut than green. has a weird taste, not quite musty, becomes inviting as i keep drinking. as the beer warms, the coconut comes out even more. it's kept in check by a background of bready malts and just enough hops to have a lingering bitterness. i wasn't sure on my first sip, but i am now - i like this beer.

mouthfeel - light and crisp. nothing unexpected, which is perfect for the style.

drinkability - only thing that keeps this from being the perfect session beer is that i don't know if i could drink it all the time.

I had this beer at the Kona Brewery on the big island of Hawaii. I am a fan of this brewery and couldn't wait to taste this beer. It poured medium brown / slightly amber with a nice off-white head. Great lacing down the glass.

You could definitely smell the coconut aroma right off the bat. It had a slightly sweet taste. Big coconut flavor, but not so overpowering it wasn't drinkable. Caramel and a roasted malt taste. Overall very pleasant and easy drinking.

I wish I could get it on the east coast!

A: Deep brown, a little lacing, good retention.

S: You can definitely smell the coconut. Reminds me of a pina colada. Dark malt, sugar.

T: Really coconutty. Like entirely coconut, with a light backing of malt. Really good, but surprising!

M: Light. Dry. Carbonation could be higher. Light body.

D: Perfect - goes down as well as any refreshing soda! I could drink this so fast on a hot summer day!

Enjoyed at the Oregon Brewer's Festival 2010

Had this one on tap at the Koko Head Marina brewpub. I was happy to hear they had this one on tap, as I had read about it earlier this year, and made it one of the beers I really wanted to try. I wouldn't put it up there with Maui Brewing Co. Coconut Porter, which I like a lot, but it's still very good. With it being a brown ale, I wasn't sure how it would measure up to the MBC beer, but was pleasantly surprised at how well it went together. The coconut wasn't too overbearing with the brown ale malts, balanced out well actually. My wife thought it was ok, which is impressive, because she doesn't like coconut at all. That just shows how the coconut wasn't too "in your face". Overall a decent beer from KBC. Glad to see them try this one out, hopefully we'll see it in bottles at some point, but who knows.
