Bottling date of JAN1014 on bottle.

Cola brown body with a fizzy, ultimately thin head; rapid carbonation. Big sweet and nutty aroma; toffee and caramel with a tad bit of coconut. Deep roasted grain flavors right off and then it switches over to a bitter and slightly phenolic finish. Medium-light body; semi-dry finish.

A brown ale that looks good on paper but pretty much fails to live up to the hype. The malt and hop marriage doesn't quite gel and seems to have a slightly off-flavor in the aftertaste. The body feel lacks depth and feels watered down. Sure, you get some deep roasted grain flavors with some chocolate and cocoa notes, and there is a noticeable (though not overbearing) coconut element to the flavors, but things just don't seem to mesh well. Not bad but hardly a strong representative of a good brown ale.

12 ox bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: A one finger off white head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is an amber copper color with good clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing on the glass as the beer was drank.

Smell: Sweet coconut, bready malts, caramel, and some nuttiness.

Taste: Sweet and nutty notes from the coconut, bready malts, some caramel, and a little chocolate.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, a little chewy, medium to high carbonation, and a bit smooth too. Feels a little dry.

Overall: A nice brown ale. The coconut brings this up a few notches and add a good flavor to the beer.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Dark copper in color, with a moderate head of tan foam.
Aroma-Toasted malt, subtle coconut
Taste-Toasted coconut, toasted malt, a nice little bite in the finish seems to balance everything out. a bit thin-bodied but nice flavor and balance. Sessionable. Good with a burger or BBQ wings.

A: A medium/dark brown with red hues. It has a one finger head that lasts for a couple of minutes.

S: Sweet. It has aromas of caramel, malt, and coconut.

T: Very smooth and very sweet. The coconut is there but not overpowering. The dominate flavor is the caramel.

M: It has good carbonation and retention.

O: I think it is worth trying if you have never had a coconut beer but this type of beer is not my style.

Pint consumed on-tap at the 2-7 Public House on Spokane's south hill for $2.

Pint was dark brown in color, and took on a rubyish hue when held up to any sort of light. Not much head to speak of, and very little lace.

Brown sugar and coffee hit the nose. Seems like a sweeter version of the style.

Rather sweet tasting, but coffeeish at the same time, in the sense that the coffee in question is like coffee ice cream.

Medium bodied, with a slightly coating mouthfeel.

One of the sweeter brown ales I've had, but it's not a massive bash-you-over-the-head sweetness, which makes it more drinkable than some. Not a standard brown ale, but it will do, especially when being sold for $2 per pint.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

Pours a fairly clear brown color with a decent head. Aroma is sweet malts, grains, and coconut. The taste is a nice mix of coconut and sweet malts. The malts really start to take over on the finish. The mouthfeel is smooth with a medium level of carbonation, and the drinkabilty is good. Overall, a solid brown ale with just a bit of a twist.
