The current seasonal, commemorating the 5000th batch of beer at the brewhouse. A complimentary pint.
This beer appears a clear medium golden amber hue, with one commanding finger of dense foamy ecru head, which leaves some consistent island arch lace around the glass as it slowly seeps away.
It smells nicely of multivaried citrus and tropical fruit - pineapple, blood orange, papaya, and mild earthy mango. A wee bit of creamy caramel malt sits brooding in the background. The taste is bitter citrus rind, moderate pine resin, soused tropical fruit, sturdy caramel/toffee malt, and an isolated zingy booze edge.
The bubbles are a tad frizzy, the body a eve medium weight, with welterweight aspirations, and pretty darned smooth, a somewhat damning indictment of the overall hop influence. It finishes actually rather sweet, the malt the beneficiary of the waning, but not all that lacking hop factor.
A decent enough DIPA, but not quite up to the standard bearers of the vaunted west coast. Drinkable for the strength, however, not exactly memorable in the same vein.
