A full-bodied, American-Style I.P.A. that is bronze in color, Castaway IPA is "dry hopped" (aged with liberal amounts of whole hop flowers after fermentation) for assertive hop flavor and aroma. The bitterness is balanced by the malty body of the beer.

I picked this up at the Binny's store in Plainfield, IL as part of a build-your-own six pack for $9.99, making this single 12oz bottle $1.67.

The beer poured a clear golden color with a ½-finger white head that lasted about a minute and a half and left some decent acing.

Smelled like citrus hops.

Big grapefruit hop flavor with some mango underneath. There's also some caramely malt, but not enough to say it's balanced. This is a big hop forward beer despite the fact that it only garnishess a 50 IBU score.

Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

If you like frapefruit you'll probably like this. For me, it's a sub par IPA.

Danky and citrusy - I was shocked at how good this was. Maybe I had too low of expectations going in. If you've been passing this over for other 6-packs you definitely need to give this one a chance.

a: hazy yellow orange color with a white head about a finger and a half big that dissipated moderately slow. left light lacing that went away quick.

S: pine and orange notes

T: slightly malty with very light bitterness. Not too hoppy. citrus and pineapple notes towards the end.

Mouth feel: medium body with good carbonation. sticks on the tongue a bit.

Overall: pretty easy beer to drink. Would drink this again if i wanted something not too hoppy. not a big fan of the mouth feel but overall a decent beer

Had on draft. Very easy drinking IPA. Nothing stands out but great balance. Light floral, fruity notes with low bitterness. Subtle pine and hops. Could drink this all day long.

They should have stuck with the Lager. They missed the mark on the IPA

Appearance: Pours a golden bronze color.

Overall: Tastes of a sweet malt balanced by tropical hops. Only slightly bitter. Very tasty beer with good balance. Highly recommend but not for pure hop heads. You won't find the bitterness you like.

on-tap at honolulu int'l airport

a: slightly hazy bright orange with 1.5 fingers of bone-hued head

s: dank pine, caramel, and a touch of orangey mango

t: very well-rounded, lots of malt backbone but good enough piney-fruity hop presence. moderately bitter finish

m: medium-plus, plenty carbonation, slightly sticky

o: impressed with this beer. not too assertive but still packs a good flavour punch

Golden something-or-other in color.
Hoppy, as it should be.
Would offer to others, happily.
Would purchase again, definitely.

Good lacing
Lovely hops aroma
Taste matches aroma and well balanced
Good mouth feel
Overall a very good IPA if you like the distinct Galaxy hops
The Galaxy hops really shines through in this IPA and it's one of my favorite. This will definitely be in my rotation!

Valiant gold color with a lot of carbonation and a thin head that refuses to dissipate. Excellent sweet malty smell. Very hoppy taste with the bitter pale ale kick back. But the kick back is not a terrible taste as with a lot of pale ales.

I enjoy this Brewers beers a bunch. Really good stuff. With so many ipa they put out one that's good to sip on the dock. I suggest getting their golden ale- I really like that beer.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a clear mug.

Appearance: light golden hue with a touch of haze and a light effervescence. Head is two fingers of creamy eggshell foam. Quite nice, in my book.

Smell: a little bit of sweet malt with a fruity, tropical hop character. This is among my favorite hop aromas, so I'm rather smitten with this beer.

Taste: sweet malt with those same tropical hops from the aroma. I really dig this beer.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a decent carbonation and an OK creaminess for the style. Not bad, but not the best thing in the world.

Overall: OK, so the texture's nothing to write home about, but the flavors are right in my butter zone. Great stuff.

A solid IPA. Light golden in color. Citric and tropical fruit aroma followed by malt. Hoppy taste with a solid bready malt backbone. Medium body and semi dry bitter hops finish.

Summery: An ok IPA, I am enjoying this one 3 weeks young. It's ok. Due to a flooded market of hoppy beers/IPA's: I can't really recommend it. Not bad though, just unlikely that you wouldn't be able to find anything better on the shelves~

Bottled on 2 Mar and so about 2 1/2 months old. The beer pours out into a Duvel glass a nice clear golden amber color with a 1/2" white head that recedes fairly soon leaving patches of foam on the surface of the liquid , a ring of foam around the glass and some small bits of legging. sipping creates some nice leggy patches of lacing on the side of the glass, most of which cling to the the glass.

The aroma is very citric with some nice grapefruit zest and some tropical fruits. There also seems to be some malt in the background.

The flavors are much as expected from the nose and include nice grapefruit zest along with touches of mango. There is a malt backbone in the background that plays a nice supporting role but never tries to take over the show even when the bitterness emerges.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied and crisp with some moderate carbonation. The finish is medium in length and begins in the grapefruit and citrus flavors which then gradually disappear, leaving some bitterness with some noticeable malt in the background to create some balance.

On the whole a nice, well made beer that I'd be willing to have again. That said there are plenty of other suitable IPAs and this one is not standing out from the pack as being exceptional in any way. So its basically a good choice but not anything worth making a special effort to find again.

A: [4.75] Golden straw color pour. The beer forms a 1/2 finger of white head. The beer leaves nice lacing on the glass. The bottle lists the ABV (6.0 %) and the born on date (02/26/15). Both are on the label and easy to read!

S: [2.75] Pine and a bit of a skunky scent. The skunky scent is most prominent but not offensive.

T: [3.50] No skunk on the taste. There is some light citrus/orange at the front. The middle is mostly a bitter sense. I am also getting lemon rind. The beer is balanced and there is sweetness in there too.

M: [3.75] The carbonation level is normal. Medium to light body (while not watery). The finish is crisp and refreshing there is a slight bitter at the end but it is mild.

O: [3.50] This is my first beer from Hawaii. It is a decent offering. I don't think I would seek it out nor would I turn it down. It is a nice middle of the road IPA. Highlights are the labeling (dates and ABV) along with the lacing which is great. Lowlights the slight skunk scent. The rest is in the middle, flavor, mouthfeel etc.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled on 12/9/2014. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 1 finger dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt notes; with solid strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, lemon/orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness, balance, and complexity of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth, crisp, and moderately sticky/resinous mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good IPA. All around good balance, complexity, and robustness of citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
