August 2008: Forced draught at the GBBF 2008. Cloudy golden colour, moderate head. Typical hefeweizen aroma: cloves, banana, citrus. The flavour is very citrussy / lemony (maybe too much), also notes of cloves and banana.

Serving Type: 500 mL Bottle

L- Pours a pale golden colour with a three finger white head, decent retention. Light lacing.

S- Typical hefeweizen characteristics on the nose - doughy malt, coriander, banana.

T- Likewise with a slight earthy/musty hoppiness. Banana/phenol turns into more of a bubblegum as the brew slightly warms.

F- Moderate but steady stream of carbonation. Body is on the lighter side of medium.

O- A standard but quite good Hefe. I typically stay away from filtered Hefeweizens but picked up this one not knowing. Despite this, I did enjoy the beer and do recommend it!

500ml bottle - the weather outside is starting to call for brews like these, finally!

This beer pours a hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with a teeming tower of puffy, finely foamy, and fairly creamy bone-white head, which leaves some broadly webbed lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of bready and doughy wheat malt, banana bubblegum, a bit of white pepper and clove spice, some subtle earthy yeastiness, and very tame leafy and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is semi-sweet, bready pale malt, an equal grainy wheatiness, dried banana chips, a muddled earthy spiciness, chewed-out Hubba Bubba, still laid-back yeasty notes, indistinct citrus rind, and more well understated floral and musty hoppiness.

The carbonation is quite active in its palate-expanding frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and mostly smooth, with perhaps a suggestion of spice taking the sheen off of things here. It finishes trending dry, the yeast and spice steering in that direction.

Overall, this is a well-made version of the style, with only the (IMHO) excess bubbles making me burp just a little too deeply, at times. Flavour-wise, there's much to recommend here, with all of the expected talking points having been hit on. Tasty, easy to drink, and actually simple, in the best of ways.

500ml bottle from The Allison Arms, Glasgow (£3.80):
This one was a very nice & also very traditional German style hefeweizen with all the usual suspects (banana/cloves/bubblegum/wheat) present. The beer was very easy to drink & was quite refreshing, I wouldn't say no to another one of these but in all honesty I'd probably grab other hefeweizens before this one in future despite it being quite an enjoyable offering.

Nice weizen pour (cloudy golden, big fluffy head). Few floating bits.
Sweet banana smell, thick yeasts, nice clove, dry apple peel, and wheat cereal.
Very crisp taste from the get go, lots of citrus and even some clear lemon zest, a bit too sour for my taste, lingering over the sweet banana. Acidic apple present. Yeasts give off great clove, pepper, some faint anise and other woody kind-of spices (cardamom maybe?). Anyway, nice spicy feel. Wheat in the finish and aftertaste, with a subtle hoppy bitterness and the lingering spices.
Medium body, almost light for a hefeweizen, medium carbonation, very refreshing. As it warms, the zestiness mellows down a bit, but still dominates.
I heard people giving much praise to this one, but for me it wasn't that incredible. Refreshing and with a great drinkability, still.

This beer was a procurement from my uncle and father Hopfenpeter. Many Thanks!

From half liter bottle. Poured hazy gold with thick white head. A sexy weizen.

Musty smell that proves less sweet than a typical weizen. Banana light clove some deeper more savory notes as well. Interesting.

The flavors are mild in this weizen. All the expected flavors are there: banana, creamy yeast, cinnamon, clove. This beer has a real wheat flavor that is not over powered by the other notes.

I love the mouthfeel of this beer! Light and not overly carbonated.

This beer is easily sessional. I could sit and have a stack of these. Wonderful beer overall! Does the home town proud.

Being born in Forchheim , Germany probably makes me not the best example as a judge for this exceptional Hefeweizen. Yet believe me,I had many many encounters with this "Manna" (german slang word for nectar) of the gods.

After being pured into a weizenglas, you have to admire the golden color and the plume of fresh foam being held up from the live within the beer.

Than you smell the plume and your mouth will water.

You take the first mouth full and a wave of freshness will excite your tastebuds with amazing aromas. This of course asks for more and before you know you will be ready for your next beer.

By the way, this beer is stillin the making and won the goldmedal for the category Hefeweizen in Germany. A must taste beer!!!

Aroma of yeasty candied bananas. Poured a huge, pillowy, white head that pulled a ring of lace down as it faded. Murky golden beer becomes almost chestnut colored where the glass is widest. Refreshing wheat flavor in this beer with undertones of lemon and doughy banana. Finish is clean. Mouthfeel is fizzy soft. A nice Hefe Weizen.
