Style | ABV
Belgian Strong Pale Ale |  9.00% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Grand Cru rewards like dry champagne with aromas of passion fruit and exotic spice. This rich, golden-colored ale is fermented with a distinct Belgian abbey ale strain, then bottle conditioned with extra sugar and yeast for at least two weeks. Bottle conditioning creates the effervescent mouth feel, as well as the distinct Belgian lace prized in Belgian beers. Enjoy the complexity imparted by technique and craft.

Cru is a French wine term which means “growth place” or “great growth”. Brewers in Europe, notably in Belgium, and America use the designation to refer to a beer that is created to showcase the brewer’s art and to represent their passion for their brewery.

750 ml bottle was pooured into a large tulip glass.

Apperance: The beer poured a two finger frothy head that came over the rim, but solidified and reduced slowly. Super sticky lacing with the head reduced a foamy layer. The beer is a hazy orange yellow with some clarity and bubbles coming up through the center of the glass.

Smell: bananas, vanilla, spices, bready malts, Belgian candy, apples, pears, alcohol, and grainy. Smells deliicous.

Taste: Whoa! Super boozy and a nice blend of all above flavors

Mouthfeel: smooth, easier to drink as the beer got warmer, medium carbonation, dry, and medium bodied.

Overall: This is a solid beer for a BSPA. Lots of flavor and nicely boozy too like they should be. All the right features and wish I stored this one for awhile instead of buying it tonight and drinking it when I got home. Will visit this one once again.

Appearance:
hazy golden. looks like most farmhouse ales on Lees.
poured with ZERO head. i worried it was flat.

Taste:
VERY sweet. reminds me of a barley wine, except without any bad aftertaste. personally i'd say too sweet for more than a glass

Mouthfeel:
really nice. everything you'd expect from an unfiltered bottle conditioned beer

Overall:
a 750 Ml Bottle. said it was like dry champagne. this is much more like a moscato.
the effervescence is good. wonderfully small and even bubbles.
this beer reminds of prunes, candied yams, barley wine, custard, and straight up sugar.

I don't like bitter beer, but this was a bit too far to the other extreme for me...it tasted like creme brulee dessert.

it's well made, a 750 Ml bottle on Lees, with Belgium yeast. given all this (and the high price) I went in with high expectations. it's a decent dessert treat. i wouldn't purchase it again.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a Brewer's Art goblet. Moderate hand. Sticker on the bottom reads, Brewed with love 1 3013.

A: Cloudy, golden yellow body with 1.5 fingers of thick, white head. Good retention. Scant lacing.

S: Fruity, slightly musty Belgian yeast. Pear, apple juice, pineapple. Straw, faint grass. Some booze. Actually rather bourbon-like with some oak and vanilla notes. Really opens up as it warms. Some lemon. Black pepper. Indistinct herbs.

T: Bold, yeasty spice up front with semi-sweet, fruity undertones. Faint tang. Mild european hop bitterness develops. Fairly dry finish. Alcohol presence is moderate for 9% ABV, but brings a bit of bourbon to the party.

M: Moderate carbonation with a light creaminess. Moderately full body.

O: Tasty brew with an impressively complex and dynamic nose. I wish a bit more came across on the palate, but I couldn't stop sniffing this one. Something different each time I went to the well.

Prost!

I poured a bottle into a tulip glass.

Appearance- Cloudy golden-orange color with a fingers worth of head. Fair amount of runny lacing.

Smell- Aromas of citrus, fruits, spices, and yeast.

Taste- Very sweet and fruity flavors with a large amount of spicy Belgian yeast.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and wet with an average amount of carbonation.

Overall- A good beer but not my favorite from Schlafly. Enjoyable but it has just a tad too much yeastiness for me.
