Bottled December, 2011 (date was unreadable)... Poured into nonic pint.
A- Pours dark blackish brown with deep brown edges. Nice finger and a half of crema (fittingly) head in appearance. Spotted lacing coats the glass as the foam falls at moderate pace.
S- Smells like whole coffee beans with some milk chocolate and almost stale espresso. Has a nice backbone, more porter than stout, but still pleasing.
T/M- Subtle coffee flavors, wish it was more prominent. Just basically has the standard coffee flavors from roasted malts that come with most stouts. Has a charred flavor. Smooth and light bodied, though the style lines are already blurred, I really think this is right between a porter and a stout. Finishes with a chocolate/mocha taste. Well carbonated, light body.
O- Drinkable, damn drinkable, but not crazy about it. Subtle flavors, almost playing it too safe. Wish the stout body and flavors came in full force and coffee had a big fresh presence. Would drink again, but wouldn't spend much.
