12oz bottle poured into a snifter.
A - Dated 11/03/2011. Pours a reflective, ominous black with no hint of what is contained within. About 2-fingers of khaki-colored head gradually forms with a thick, foamy consistency and big bubbles here and there. The retention is fantastic, and it only seems to slowly shrink, not dissipate. This lends itself to some great, sticky lacing.
S - Wow, the nose on this brings some of the strongest hints of espresso that I've had in a beer, maybe only behind Founders' Breakfast Stout line and Peche Mortel. It is almost all coffee grounds here, with only the malts having a chance to challenge it. There's a bit of chocolate and oat here, but this is definitely a coffee bomb.
T - I always find myself split on coffee-infused beers. On one hand, I absolutely love coffee and it's a rare day that I don't wake up to a cup (or more) of it, but on the other hand, most coffee beers aren't well-executed and are much too bitter. I don't know to what extent the 'cold toddy extraction process' played in this beer, but Schlafly really did a fine job of getting a ton of coffee flavor without the harshness or even a lot of the roast. It's pretty much drinking a smooth iced coffee. That being said, as in the nose, it's kind of hard to get much else besides the coffee, but I guess that's the point of this beer.
M - Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with good carbonation. This even feels like coffee in the mouth, but perhaps without as dry a finish. A long lasting coffee aftertaste makes every sip last, and it is smooth all around.
D/O - Drinkability is moderately high. I have to say I'm pretty impressed with this, especially for the price. This is definitely a beer for coffee-lovers so if you can't stand it, then buyer beware. For me, though, this is an example of the style done right, but I'd like to have gotten a bit more of the underlying oatmeal stout.

Pours a dark cola brown color with a small tight khaki colored head. The retention was quick and settled into a light ring.
The aroma is not particuliarly strong but does have a nice coffee scent. Nice cold coffee and coffee grounds aroma, good roast. The aroma is a nice earthy/woody scent.
Freshly ground coffee in the taste. Excellent flavor and not overly bitter. Subtle wood notes with a peaty type of flavor. The malt base is quite light and brings a tea like flavor, perhaps a note of lemon. A hint of caramel as well.
The feel is light to moderate with fizzy carbonation. Starts off sweet on the palate but has enough of a roasted bitter offset to balance. Perhaps a touch stick in the finish.
Very good coffee flavor; I enjoyed that very much. However, the stout base is lacking and more resembles a brown ale. Quite light for the style.
