Our Coffee Stout is a classic combination of a traditional stout and premium French roast coffee from St. Louis roaster, Kaldi’s Coffee. Roasted barley and coffee dominate the aroma, with the sweetness from the stout balancing the acidity of the coffee. We use a unique cold toddy extraction process to brew a less acidic coffee for the beer.

In the 1990’s, Kaldi’s staff started visiting the Schlafly Tap Room, asking for a pint of stout and a shot of espresso. Both Schlafly and Kaldi’s realized this was a match made in beer heaven, and soon started working together to find the perfect coffee blend to mix with our Oatmeal Stout. This collaboration continues today, with regular tastings to perfect the Coffee Stout.

A-Nice jet black body with light brown creamy looking head. Good looking beer for sure.

S-Slightly disappointing smell. Very obscure coffee and malty notes.

T-Nice big coffee flavor, smell is deceiving for sure. Clean and crisp for the style.

M-I thought because of the low abv the body would be too light but i was pleasantly surprised. Good medium body with medium carb as well.

O-Very good stout. Very drinkable with just the right amount of coffee flavor. And for a $8/6 pack you cant go wrong. Solid beer for sure, especially if you are on a budget.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle, received in a Beer of the Month 6 pack from Vintage Cellar in Blacksburg, Virginia, into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a nice pitch black color with a small brownish head that dissipates quickly, but leaves some lacing. Smells of darkly roasted coffee, nothing else. Tastes of coffee and a little bit of malt, but definate dark coffee taste dominates, like there is still coffee beans in it (not actually, but that taste). Beer goes down real smooth for this light/medium bodied beer and is carbonated perfectly. Overall, a very good beer.

Good smooth oatmeal stout, very prominent coffee presence. Thanks to Woodchopper who included it in a trade.

Poured a dark brown into a pint glass. A regular pour provides very little head. A hard pour rewards you with a nice size light tan head. Average retention, some delicate lacing on the glass.

Strong aroma of coffee and roasted malt..nice.

Tastes good as well. Fairly simple, roasted and bready malts and plenty of coffee.

Mouthfeel is as smooth as you would expect with a good oatmeal stout. Slides down very well. Plenty of coffee, not much bitterness.

Overall this is a very pleasant stout. If you like coffee, this is a good one for you as the coffee is prominent without being harsh or bitter.

Pours black with a small head. Aroma is light, mostly coffee. Tastes like a pretty good stout with a single shot of espresso. The coffee here is not as up front as I expected. I like my coffee stouts strong. It is, however, very smooth with just the right amount of carbonation. The coffee doesn't come through until the middle and the drink finishes out with a slight hop bitterness to it. Overall definitely a good beer, but I'll take one with stronger coffee if I can find it.

Enjoyed on-tap @ the Schlafly Tap Room in St. Louis, MO for $4.50. Tapped from a Stainless Steel Tap Handle into a 16oz Nonic/Pint Glass.

Aroma- Tons of roast and maltiness throughout the entire smell. Coffee is very apparent and nicely introduced. Enjoyed greatly!

Appearance- Pours a 1.5 finger head that is frothy and has great retention. Has the deepest brown colored body that is opaque. Leaves the thickest, creamy lacing behind.

Flavor- Very rich coffee and tastes as though it is a cask offering but isn't. Roast and dark malts are introduced in the middle of the drink. A light-medium bitterness is present.

Mouthfeel- Medium-Full Bodied, Light Carbonation, Creamy, and has a light coffee finish.

Overall Impression- After each drink, I thought to myself, is this on-cask? Very creamy and easy going down! Of course it was still full bodied but very nice with coffee character but anyone can enjoy! I'm looking to enjoy my bottle of this within the week as well and compare.
