Notes/Commercial Description:
Our American Brown Ale starts with a classic British brown recipe crafted with caramel and chocolate malts for sweetness and color. Then we fortify it with the bold flavor and aroma of American hops.

Like many of the progressive beer styles seen today, American Brown Ales developed out of the culture of home brewing in the United States. Often home brewers would begin with the traditional British brown ale recipe but replace the milder English hops with the more aromatic American varieties.

Very nice unique brown ale. Love the toffee notes in this brew. Perfect Fall afternoon beer

Once again, my local, in-person trader, tone77 has come through with a CAN in furtherance of The CANQuest (TM)! He finds 'em for me, I find 'em for him - it is a mutual benefit society we have established.

From the CAN: "Bold Flavor Alcohol 5.0% by Volume".

The Crack! unleashed a fair amount of foam so I CANtinued with a gentle pour, trying to avoid massive foaming, I was moderately successful, still ending up with two solid fingers of dense, light-tan head with good retention. Color was more coppery than brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) wih NE-quality clarity. Nose had an interesting admixture of caramel malt sweetness underlain by a minty hoppiness. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium, a drawback to these sessionable beers, I have found. Taste was rather sweet, very much toffee and caramel, but the minty hops came through to help it avoid being a total malt bomb. Finish had a clean minty flavor, inducing an Ah! moment. Still, I just felt like it was lacking something in total. It was not a bad beer, but just not my style and not worth returning to.

Drink from a can...I figured If I'm buying a session beer from a can it's because I'm going to drink it on the beach, river, lake or someplace I don't want the weight of bottles or the possibility of breaking a glass container...so my review will be based on it's taste out of a can.

Nothing to report visually except the can is a nice brown/neon green.

Sweet caramel and some malty bread on the nose.

Light mouth feel, medium carbonation, nutty on the front end followed by sweet caramel popcorn. The finish is quick, slightly bitter but fades fast. Left with a pleasant honey bread on the tongue.

Overall not bad for a session in a can...you do get a little aluminum on the first couple of swallows but my buds adjusted. I took this fishing and enjoyed several on the boat...it was nice to have something better than a BMC. That said, this is 5% ABV...most BMC sessions are around 4.2 give or take...there are many good craft beers out there at 5%...why not just put them in a can and market them as a session?

I think Browns are usually pretty boring, as with most Browns this one tasted better as it warmed. Good, not great.

Update: I had a second America Brown in a snifter later in the day...nice deep arburn color, great off white head, mild lacing. Still watery light on the mouth feel but had a much richer/fuller smell and taste...much better in the glass than the can.

I should probably change my rating up a .25 on everything but mouth feel but won't because I will only buy this to drink out of a can when the situation calls for it.
