Pumpkin Ale |  8.00% ABV

Availability: Fall

Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Pumpkin Ale blends the spices of the harvest with full-bodied sweetness for a beer that tastes like pumpkin pie. Pounds of pumpkin form a malty foundation that supports the fall flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg and clove.

While pumpkin beers were produced in the early days of the American colonies, they were different from the pumpkin beers we know today. Colonists used pumpkin and squash as the fermenting medium, since malted barley was scarce. Once malt became more readily available, it replaced these alternatives to grain. In the 1990’s, American craft brewers reintroduced the style to the delight of pumpkin beer drinkers.

Bottled poured into a mini snifter.

A - Really great brownish orange that replicates the color of pumpkin pie. Nice off-white head that sticks around, good lacing as well.

S - This beer is a spice bomb! Huge pumpkin notes with vanilla and nutmeg undertones. Really great smelling beer if you like pumpkin pie.

T - Just like the smell; pumpkin spices up front with slight vanilla and nutmeg flavors becoming apparent in the finish.

M - Well done on this aspect of the beer. Definitely more of a malt forward beer and it suits it well.

O - This is one of the only pumpkin beers I've had, and it has definitely impressed me and makes me want to seek out more. Easily the best I've had given the style.

A: Pours a dark copper-reddish color with a fair head.

S: Aroma of nutmeg, spices and bit of vegetables. As it warms the aroma gets better, more pumpkin pie like.
T: Taste of some pumpkin, nutmeg, spices, not overly sweet. No real bitterness and a just a bit of lingering spice.

F: Moderate body, smooth and flavorful without being too sweet or pumpkiny.

O: Enjoyable beer, better than most veggie/ pumpkin style beers out there.

Pours a dark copper color. 1/2 inch head of an off-white color. Great retention and good lacing. Smells of strong spices (cinnamon, all spice, nutmeg, etc.), sweet malt, slight alcohol, and pumpkin. Fits the style of a Pumpkin Ale. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of strong spices, slight alcohol, pumpkin, and slight sweet malt. Overall, good appearance, strong aroma, strong body, and blend is overtly spicy.

Poured from a bottle into an Odell's Belgian Style Snifter.

Appearance: An average pour left me with 1/2'' of white-cream colored, soapy head. The beer is somewhere a beautiful mahogany. No sediment present.

Smell: Smells of Cinnamon and nutmeg, a hint of red apple, slight pumpkin, perhaps a bit of toffee malts.

Taste: Taste is of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon with an aftertaste of creamy pumpkin sweetness. Flavor duration is short to average. Sweetness heavy.

Mouthfeel: Body is medium-full, with a thick texture, average carbonation, and sweet finish. A sticky residue is left afterwards.

Overall: Great spice flavors, and true pumpkin flavor, particularly in the aftertaste. Overall, a bit sweet for my liking, but I suppose it tastes like some pumpkin pie, for sure!

A: Hazy golden orange... Head dissipated quickly

S: Very nice. Big clove and cinnamon aroma

T: Get some nutmeg and clove spice up front followed by a sweeter finish. 8% ABV is very well hidden.

M: Fairly thick and the flavors linger on a while

O: Definitely one of the top pumpkin ales I have tried. Excited to try a few more
