Had this one at the taproom in STL.
A - Served in a snifter, this one is a ruby brown hue, clear with a one finger khaki head.
S - Bourbon, freshly cut wood, BBQ, sugar, and apple cider.
T - Big time hops are very fruity and biting. Lots of piny flavors too. The malts are an equal match for the hops and remind me of a good single malt.
M - Full bodied and muscular on the palate. Heavy and weighty, but spry and lithe due to the alcohol attenuation and massive hop attack.
D - Very drinkable! The ABV might put you on the floor, but this is an outstanding sipping beer that might even be sessionable as long as a session is defined as two or three.

750ml bottle: 2010 vintage. This one pours a hazy coppery color. Pretty much no head on it. This has a really nice nose. It’s got a bit of caramel malt, some vanilla, oak and some fruitiness also. The taste is also very good. It has a subdued sweetness from the caramel malt, notes of the vanilla, oak, some faint cherry. This is really an excellent barleywine.

Pours a copper color with a one finger light beige head, with good retention and spotty lacing. The aroma has caramel, citrus, oak, and vanilla. Smells nice.
Tastes sweet with caramel, toffee, citrus, vanilla, and dark cherries. The alcohol is noticeable, but not intrusive. Has a nice warming effect on a cold winter night.
Medium bodied with soft carbonation, with a caramel and toffee aftertaste. Overall a nice beer. Too bad it is listed as retired. I would like to try this again.
