Perfectly colored body of a bright, shiny yellow sits underneath a small, white head that stays for quite long time. The wheat is immediately apparent on the nose, even from a ways away. Covers up the clove a bit, and even thinner is a scent of a ripened banana. Makes for a nice, spicy/sweet assault.

The clove takes over on the palate, but isn't overwhelming like it could be in other weissbiers. Pleasant presence of the banana, wheat, and surprisingly, a bit of citrus hint underneath all of that. The extra layer of flavor really makes the beer work. Fairly light body and a mildly dry finish make this an easy-drinker, as one will never feel over or underwhelmed.

Overall/notes - Great early-summer drinker. Schlafly's German styles have never let me down, and this one isn't any different. Great for sitting on a porch, reading a good book, and kicking your feet up!

I had this on-tap at the brewpub during a recent trip to St. Louis.

A: Poured a cloudy, peach-orange color, with about an 1/8 finger head and Spider-Man-like lacing.

S: While this was fairly understated overall, I did get some fresh banana and clove.

T: Bubble gum-like, and very banana forward, without the in-your-face sweetness of an overripe banana. This was drinkable, but not as delectably drinkable as it should be.

M: This was fairly low on the carbonation side and with lots of lacing and a slight sweet lingering. Good.

O: While this was good, the one down the street at Urban Chestnut is much better.

Thanks to Brian for muling this six pack back from the Midwest! Bottled With Love on 04 06 2011.

Poured into a Penn Weizen glass and properly swirling in the yeast dregs. It looks a hazy lemon yellow with a rush of rising suds. Bleachy white head stagnates with a meringue-like foam consistency. Looks purty good.

Light lemon and banana in the nose with a burgeoning bready character that is pretty nice. Some clove-y esters and muddled cream notes. Enjoyable aroma.

Sweet banana and clove and some yeasty breads. Not too much else. A little milky in taste with some faint yellow citrus notes. A little maraschino cherry and lemon peel upon the swallow. Very soft and palatable. Nothing off-the-charts, just good.

Very smooth and milky with some aggressive carbonation that mellows out in the finish. Again, very soft and mostly benign.

A very decent American hefe. Got the whole banana/clove ester working with some lactose notes that work pretty well. I would happily drink this again.

Into a hefe glass, it ends up a slightly hazy gold. Head retention and lacing are quite good.

I let this one sit past the freshness period, and yet the skunky character, intended or not, plays well with the other aromas. Banana and vanilla esters with a bit of lemon peel escape. More clove begins to surface as it warms up a bit.

The German hops give a nice subtle grassy flavor. The intention was probably minimal bitterness, but it's balanced nicely. The core flavors of banana and clove could have been amplified, but once again this one has been on the back-burner a while. Honey and warming wheat tones begin to amplify and dominate the finish as it warms up.

It's very easy to drink as expected, tough to let this one sit long enough to develop. The carbonation is assertive, and the feel is slick. It's certainly a summer refresher with ample flavor.

Enjoyed on-tap @ the Flamingo Bowl in St. Louis, MO for $3 (Industry night). Tapped from the Black Handle w/ a Creme/tan Weissbier logo in the circle on the top of the handle into a 16oz Pint Glass.

All I have to say other than my other review (in bottle) is that this is an easy poundable brew but at the same time has good flavor and tons of wheaty/grainy tastes that it should have. Will be enjoying soon again!

12 oz bottle served in a Devil's Backbone weiss.

Perfectly clear light golden color with a soapy white head. Consistent carbonation produces nice retention throughout. Aroma is banana, clove and estery with minimal spice. Slightly thin body with light carbonation. Flavor is not as robust as the aroma. Nice wheat and clove presence, earthy in the finish. Pleasant and refreshing.

Received in trade from DCon a few months back. Finally getting to try.
Poured from 12oz bottle dated 4/5/2011.

Aroma: Light clove and banana as expected (just a tad bit lighter than I'd prefer), combined w/ a bit of lemony tartness. An interesting sweetness comes through in my nose as I exhale.

Appearance: A 2 finger white head falls faster than anticipated (like champagne). Body has interesting clarity: clear toward the bottom, and slightly hazy toward the top. At this point, I realize I forgot to swirl the bottle and dump the yeast into the glass. Color is golden-yellow with nice effervesence.

Flavor: Sweet banana and clove. Light malty sweetness comes across a bit on the artificial side (possibly a combo of the sweetness and some underlying hop bitterness). Some lemony tartness on the back end. Finishes clean and dry.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light body. Crisp, high carbonation.

Overall: Not a bad weissbier, and very drinkable. Not a perfect example of the style, but still one that I'd order if it were available at a bar/restaurant I was at during the spring/summer.

amber, hazy with a nice tow inch head at the top. Head faded to reveal a thin film, with no side glass lace. Nice visible carbonation from the bottom.

Lots of wheat and yeast, light with a touch of banana. Good balance, nice aroma.Damn good, great wheat, earthy yeast like flavor, light with just a touch of fruit, banana and pear mostly. Not watered down, flavor has a nice pop. Light enough to just slide down, good carbonation kept it from feeling too thin, not slick, crisp and clean finish. Superb, I could drink this all day long, the flavor and feel combine to make a perfect summer taste, great hot weather drinker.

Presentation: 12oz brown pop-top, attractive label, bottled with love on 3-25-11

Appearance: Dark straw gold brew, thoroughly hazy, with a large cream cap with good retention.

Smell: Fruity and yeasty, with a ghostly spice presence. Surprisingly, the fruit presence is more citrusy than banana-like up front, with just a hint of banana in the background.

Taste: Spice leads fruitiness in the flavor profile as well, with a hint of bubble-gum as well. Very little (if any) banana, this is more about some light citrus, tart wheat, spice/bubble-gum, and da surprising clean, crisp bitterness. Hints of grainy malt as well.

Mouthfeel: Light

Overall: A nice (and different) take on the banana-bomb Hefeweizen style, and a good value at around $8.00 a sixer.

Poured this 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. It poured a cloudy golden color and it produced a thin white head with poor head retention. The aroma of the beer consisted of banana, clove and wheat. Overall it was a pretty nice, strong aroma. This beer left behind little lacing. The beer has a medium body, a crisp wheat flavor that is complimented by banana yeast character, some clove spice- It has as slightly bitter, dry finish that leaves you wanting to take another sip. Overall, this is a fairly decent Hefeweizen, the aroma and taste were above average, but they really need to work on the amount of carbonation, head- it is a little thin.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Bottled with Love on 03.25.2011. (Consumed 05.06.2011)

Pours a hazy, cloudy straw topped by a large frothy white head.

Nose is juicy and fresh, with a nice balance of banana and bubblegum characters. An expected yeasty twang lies underneath, rounded out by a somewhat subtle clove spiciness. Simple and inviting, hits the high points of the style.

Smooth and round on the palate. Maintains the nice balance of banana and bubblegum, though the banana has a slight edge. A fair bit bread-like, finishing with spicy clove. Lingering yeasty notes stick around for a short while.

Light bodied and soft. Quaffable for sure. A solid version of the style.
