Our Tripel features malt and yeast that set the fresh aroma of baked brioche against the sweet scent of ripened banana. This relatively light-bodied ale is fermented with a distinct Belgian abbey ale strain, then bottle conditioned with extra sugar and yeast for at least two weeks. Bottle conditioning creates the effervescent mouth feel, as well as the distinct Belgian lace prized in Belgian beers.

While the origin of the word “Tripel” is unknown, there is a theory that it indicates “strength in some way”, as Tripels tend to be high in alcohol and strong in flavor. The term is most associated with Westmalle, a Trappist brewery in Belgium. This term has spread to other Belgian and American breweries to describe a light-colored, strong ale with high alcohol content and Belgian yeast.

light brownish amber with a big, two inch off white head. Lots of foam and lace left over from this one. Lots of visible carbonation was readily apparent. Smell was full of yeast and grain, a touch of alcohol was also present. Picked up some grassy aroma as well. The flavor was a classic tripel. Lots of yeasty flavors, plums, a touch of peach. A lot of bready grains mixed in as well. A touch of alcohol was definatly there and made its presence well known. Great smooth feel due to lots of carbonation. This was actually not as much of a sipper as I would have thought. I was easily able to drink this while walking around no problem. Not saying it would be a session beer, but not a snifter eaither. Overall I was actually fairly impressed with this. Had a great feel and flavor, full body and just a good all around belgian

Amber with one finger head. Soft bubblegum, clove, malt on the nose. The flavor is strong bubblegum and strong clove, really a little too much in my opinion. Some yeastiness and spice, bit of citrus. Some booze. Moderate thick mouthfeel and moderate bitterness.

Love me a Tripel and this one is top notch. Smooth, flavorful, and and subtle yet appealing aftertaste, the ABV is disguised in a potentially dangerous fashion....big, yummy thumbs up.

I always go into every new Belgian Style Ale made in the US with an open-mind, especially after discovering the quality of Ommegang in Cooperstown, NY, who has proven they can do it just as well as the Belgians, and perhaps better. The Schlafly Tripel joins the growing collection of American breweries and beer makers who are doing Belgian ales expertly. The look is a golden with three fingers of head. The smell is fruity with candy overtones. The taste is unique as it finishes with a honey, candy, fruity smoothness that sustains itself on the palate--in a very pleasant manner. The feel: it comes in creamy and ends with that classic champagne fizziness. Highly recommended.
