Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Oatmeal Stout is a classic British-style stout brewed with flaked oatmeal and roasted barley. Freshly-roasted coffee beans, cocoa and touches of raisin and dried fruit dominate the aroma of this super dark ale. The richness of the grain blend is balanced by the nutty character of the roasted malt, the creaminess from the oatmeal flakes and a dose of hops.

Before the 19th century, all barley was malted over wood-fired kilns and the resulting dark roasted malt defined the browns, porters, and stouts of England. Near the end of the 19th century, brewers had introduced oats for their purported restorative and nourishing characteristics, producing beers such as oatmeal stout and milk stout. By the 1950’s, Oatmeal Stout had nearly trickled out of existence. Following the beer’s literary rebirth in the articles of English beer writer Michael Jackson in the 1970’s, British and American craft brewers are once again promoting the style.

A: dark with tinges of amber red when held up to the light. Light brown rocky 2 fingered head that dissipates quickly, leaving a little bit of lacing.

S:roasted malt, coffee, notes of dark chocolate and toffee.

T: follows the nose pretty well, coffee, roasted malt, oatmeal, slight hops bitterness on the finish and a coffee after taste. Medium body and medium carbonation

O: a pretty good stout , nothing that will blow you away but a good above average stout. I would defiantly pick this one up again.

A- Pitch black with the slightest bit of amber at the thin bottom of the glass. Sticky and frothy tan head that leaves tons of lacing and hangs around.

S- Roasted malts, caramel malt, oats, slight mild hop note.

T- Rather light on flavor. Slight grainy oats in the beginning with roasted malts towards the middle. The end leaves a tasty roasted finish. No robust flavor by any means, but no off flavors either.

M- Medium carbonation, medium bodied. Slight sting at the end that is not normally apparent in stouts. Overall, very drinkable.

O- A good oatmeal stout, but nothing stands out and probably not something I would persue again with better options out there.

Produced a finger and a half of tan, long lived head. Beer color is a very dark mahogany.

The aroma was of roasted malts, dark bread.

The taste was the same, with a slight sweetness, and hop note. Medium mouth-feel, and low carbonation.

This is a good, easy drinking stout, but no a great one.

I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Very dark brown almost black with a finger and a half worth of tan head. Light amount of runny lace.

Smell- Dark roasted malt and coffee with a hint of nuttiness.

Taste- Dark roasted malt, coffee, char, and a hint of chocolate.

Mouthfeel- Medium bodied and smooth. Above average carbonation but just a tad watery.

Overall- Not my favorite stout but easy to drink. I wouldn't turn one down in the future.

Enjoyed at the brewpub in St Louis, reviews from notes.

A: half finger head with minimal lacing on a black with some light getting through body.

S: cocoa, oats, vanilla and roasts malts.

T: bitter rotated and coffee malts, breads, oatmeal.

M: medium body and moderate carbonation.

Overall: interesting beer which has some flavors that are unfamiliar to me especially for the style.
