Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Helles-Style Summer Lager is a bright, golden beer, perfect for summertime. The malts we use impart a wonderful, fresh grain character, reminiscent of European lagers. The German Noble hop, Mittelfrüh, lends a mild lemony, spicy flavor.

The German word “Helles” translates as “light” and “Lager” means “to store”. This beer style emerged in Germany through the Spaten Brewery’s marriage of British, Bohemian and German brewing techniques. This style is an integral part of brewing history and a predecessor of the straw-colored, light-bodied beers which are the most widely consumed beers in the world today. The lager yeast ferments the beer more slowly and at lower temperatures; it is then stored for maturation. This results in a beer which is more smooth and drinkable. Today, many American craft brewers offer this style as a maltier and hoppier alternative to American light lagers.

Straw yellow in color with lively carbonation. Just a bit of foam on top. Pale malt in the aroma. The mouthfeel is pretty crisp and smooth. The taste is pretty refreshing and simple. Just a hint of corn and almost like a bit of grapefruit. Pretty satisfying as a refresher.

Straw yellow, with a nice, white head. Interesting "picket fence" lace.

Fresh aroma of grains and toast.

Light bodied, but flavor is a well-balanced mix of slightly citrus Noble hops and a grainy malt quality.

A rich and tasty light brew, tailor-made for warm weather.

It has a wonder full deep golden colored body. There isn't much for bubbles or head. There is however a bit of tight lacing. It has an average lager aroma there is nothing that special about it. There are some grassy tones but that is about it. It has a grainy and light hops flavor. There is a bit of a corn tone to the aftertaste. The mouthfeel is light and easy to drink.

Looks like straw in a glass, with a thick fluffy cloud on top.

Hops were present in the nose, with what I think was touch of honey.

I was expecting the worst, but I was pleasantly surprised by the taste. There are strong flavors from the hops and a gentle sweetness to counter the bitter before giving way to a slightly bitter finish.

It's a crisp, refreshing drink on the palate, perfect for a warm day.

It would not be hard to drink a lot of these.

pours very light in color, almost looks like a bud light. light frothy head with light retention and really, no lacing

very light hop scents, barely detectable but a huge malt profile.

taste is dominant malts. light biscuits flavors and very light hop bitterness. very light and very refreshing

very smooth, very light, very easy. medium carbonation.

this is a perfect summer beer. nice and light in flavor but still has that dominant beer profile.

Bottled 7/10/09

Pours an effervescent straw color with 2 fingers of eggshell colored head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Grassy, some lemony hops

T: Soapy & floral hops, light breadyness & lemons up front. Crackery notes, a bit of pear sweetness & dry lemony notes as this warms. Finishes fairly crisp, a bit grainy with lemons & a touch of soapyness

MF: Light/medium bodied with soft carbonation & good balance

Drinks pretty easy, wouldn't say this takes me back to Germany, but an alright American take on the style

A: Pale color pours with a finger head. No haze to this beer. Looks exactly how I think a good lager should.

S: This has a nice light aroma. A touch of hop characteristic.

T: Tastes absolutely great for a summer lager. It has a nice hop flavor to it, and a touch of citrus as well.

M: The beer isn't watery. You know you're drinking a beer, yet it's not heavy. This is perfect for drinking on a hot summer day.

D: All around a great beer to me. They go down so smooth and the beer is very refreshing.
