Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Vancer on 09-20-2009

Our American IPA gets its bold hop flavor from 100% American hops and its deep gold and full body from pale and crystal malted barley. A blend of Amarillo, Centennial and Simcoe hop varietals imparts AIPA with bitterness and prominent aromas of citrus and fruit. Our brewers select these hops on an annual pilgrimage to the hop farms of Pacific Northwest.

IPAs (India Pale Ales) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Pours a slightly cloudy copper color. Rocky off white foam that persists and after a little while reduces to a froth. There is no carbonation to speak of.

Smell: Very herbal with big, bold piney hops

Taste: Piney hops, apples and some kind of fruity aroma.

Mouth Feel: Medium bodied, slick and smooth with a long, hoppy finish

Overall: This was a very satisfying beer that you should enjoy over a period of time. Don't just guzzle this one down. Enjoy it. (516 characters)

A: Orange gold with a nice layered head.

S: Big citrus, tropical fruit punch, followed with some pine and faint lemongrass notes. This thing smells amazing.

T: Right in line with the nose. Tons of juicy hops and sting the tongue with a nice malt sweetness on the back end. Drying hop finish with some citrus and lemon.

M: Silky smooth. It is a little thick for the ABV, but it doesn't take away from the taste and feel.

O: If this beer originated on the west coast, it would be all the rage. Unfortunately, I think its middle america origin will make it a bit over looked. Its a shame. Schlafly has made a real gem with this one. (633 characters)

Bottled with love on 5/17/10 fresh fresh fresh!
Poures a slight hazed dull burnt orange with sticky one finger white head atop, good carbonation.Aromas were a bit more muted than expected, lemon oil,and caramel malt mainly.Hops are uber assertive on the palate, almost like sticky hop juice, big grapefruit and pine resin,an overly ripe sort of tropical fruitiness comes in as well, there is a hefty caramel malt base that holds it all together. The alcohol stays in check for the most part and the mouthfeel is chewey and fantastic.A great IPA,bigger than most with nice hop flavor nuances. (585 characters)

Glows amber in the light. Faint aromas of catty hops and alcohol. I'm having a hard time getting too much off of it. Slightly sugary sweet malt upon entry, sweet berries and tropical fruit notes midway, and a crisp bite of bitter hops on the back-end. Very clean and suprisingly refreshing. It's easy to drink a few of these, even with it being 8% abv. Hopefully Schlafly will see to make this year-around. (406 characters)

It is very bitter and has very few redeeming qualities when swallowed. It has a great resin smell. This beer was bottled on 3/15/2015 (making it 6 days old). I concur that it leaves a very harsh taste in my mouth. Over all it's an okay enjoyable drinking beer. (260 characters)

"Bottled with love on: 05 19 2010" 12 ounce bottle. Pours cloudy, dull darker honey amber, frothy and loose medium tan head, that stays and leaves thick and high quality looking froth and lace. Herbal hop nose. Tasty hop bomb of a brew, tastes like a quality Colorado or Calif. IPA, uh yeah, that's a good thing..More herbal, then citric and grainy hops absorb onto the tongue. Malty base providing the 8% undercoating, rich and densely flavorful brew. More then ample yeast coating on the bottom of the bottle, makes things more clouded. Nice job by Schlafly here, quality/solid AIPA (584 characters)

Bottle (2013)

Thanks for sending this my way, Shagtastic!

Clear dark orange with a nice, stiff, persistent head of eggshell white head. Leaves the glass lined with regular lacing. Very pretty IPA.

Very nice hoppy aroma: bright citrus and some tropical fruit presence. Just a bit of bready sweetness.

Moderately bitter flavor, pushed up against citrus and bitter melon and mango fruit characteristics. Well balanced and very drinkable.

Medium bodied with high carbonation. Crisp and disappearing.

Exceptionally drinkable. (528 characters)

on tap at Pazzo's (Lexington, KY)
clear amber body with good clarity; durable, creamy white head leaves the glass well coated with sticky lacing.

Aroma: moderately strong; unusual hop component is fruity but not citrusy excepting some grapefruit Also rather floral.

Flavor: a bit unusual too. Again, odd fruity component. A hint of vanilla; a touch floral. A good bit of grapefruit and grapefruit rind in the fnish and aftertaste.

Feel: light-medium bodied; medium carbonation that seems a touch low.

O: odd enough that I wonder if there's a quality control issue with this sample. (589 characters)

Nice pouring orange amber with a bright head.
Nice typical IPA aromas with citrus, pine and malt.
Taste is right there with the aromas.
Mouth feel is real nice with a dry mouth and a good bitterness behind.
This is a good beer. Hits all the notes for an IPA but pretty average. (277 characters)
