Our American IPA gets its bold hop flavor from 100% American hops and its deep gold and full body from pale and crystal malted barley. A blend of Amarillo, Centennial and Simcoe hop varietals imparts AIPA with bitterness and prominent aromas of citrus and fruit. Our brewers select these hops on an annual pilgrimage to the hop farms of Pacific Northwest.

IPAs (India Pale Ales) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

Schlafly is a regional treasure, being available in only 7 states. This is a special release, so grab it while you can.

IPA fans (like me) will appreciate this murky red-brown ale, with a thick head and thick lacing on the glass. Wonderful.

The nose is deep pine resins. Amazing and intense. The anticipation builds!

In tasting, I get more of the pine, with some sour grapefruit. A fetchingly bitter finish seals the deal. This one's a real winner.

A pour from a 12 oz. bottle fills a clear pint glass, thanks to a gorgeous white head. The beer is a beautiful golden copper with a bit of a haze. There is sufficient glass lacing to complete a near perfect picture. The aroma is less distinguished, with only traces of malt and hops. The taste leans more toward the aroma than the appearance. It has a quality consistent with IPAs. The malty background providing body and some soft sweetness, whilst the hops add a little bitterness. Unfortunately, it's only a slight addition to the taste from the hops. A nicely made American IPA, just a bit short on flavor.

Gold with thick, unending, frothy head of cream. Smells of pine, citrus, floral. The flavor is a nice balance of the same with just the right amount of malt. Lightly bittered for the style, and the 7.2% of alcohol is barely noticeable. Light, yet thick and coating mouthfeel. Slightly sweet.

Behind the Expo, this is Schlafly's finest consistent offering. It's heavy without being a hoppy bog. A generous helping of malts gives more than enough space for some florals to burst through mid-taste.

It meshes with any season and is a rare IPA in that it is drinkable by the small handful.
