Wow, beautiful pour. Dark cola with ruby hints in the light, massive creamy tan head that sticks around for a good while leaving reminders along the edge as it slinks its way to the bottom. Almost looks nitro the way the head cascades into liquid

Nose is an interesting blend of baking chocolate, roast and burnt malts and just a touch of raspberry at the finish. There's a little gritty coffee grounds in there as well, but not as much as I was expecting.

The taste starts with a little sweetness (ostensibly from the raspberry), but doesn't delve too far into that flavour before giving way to the biting black coffee and burnt malt. The raspberry comes back around in the last third, letting it finish with an incredibly creamy smoothe finish of bitter and sweet that is really well balanced.

I wasn't really sure what to expect going into this one, but I'm enjoying it immensely. Happy labour day y'all!

Poured from the bottle an opaque purple-black with a single finger of mocha head.

Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, chocolate milk and a light whiff of raspberry.

The taste pretty much matched the aroma straight on. Coffee, vanilla, chocolate milk, roasted malts, and raspberry. Roasted malts linger on the tongue.

Medium to full bodied and smooth with a very light carbonation.

A pretty easy-drinking stout from Schlafly.

Bottle (2012)

Thanks for opening this with me, VaTechHopHead!

Black throughout, with very dark brown, near ruby, edges and a thin brown head of small bubbles. Leaves the glass with an oily sheen.

Pronounced raspberry aroma, surprisingly so. It's not quite as genuine or juicy as some framboises, for instance, as there's some definite coffee and roast character coming through as well.

The flavor is similar to the aroma: combination of roast, mild coffee, and earthy raspberry, as opposed to plump, juicy, and vibrant. The flavors might be clashing a little bit, though I think the flavors are what the brewer intended.

Medium bodied with prickly, unfortunate carbonation. Not able to drink a ton of this.

A decent attempt with some flaws, mainly in mouthfeel. It's a bit prickly and a bit too sweet for the style, at least for my tastes.

On tap at the taproom poured into snifter. Pours a deep black with thin tan head. Great coffee and roasted malt aroma. Maybe there is a slight fruit aroma but I may just be looking for it. Taste is great coffee chocolate cake with a definite raspberry flavor. It all works well and is very good. Niice stout for sure.

Had on tap at the schlafly tap room St. Louis Missouri

Appearance: Very dark, small amount of tan head, little to no lacing

Smell: Chocolate cake with raspberries.

Taste: Mocha and raspberries. Dessert all the way, would be a great way to finish off a meal. Wouldn't want to drink more than one of these. Very rich.

Mouthfeel: nice and full, has a nice thickness that corresponds with the richness of the flavors

Overall: I liked it, not excactly familiar with the style but it was very enjoyable. Definately a must try.

Poured into a Schlafly tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.
Vintage 2012.

Pours a nice dark dark brown. Absolutely no light can get through. There is a nice light tan head that forms that is about 1 inch tall and is very active. It recedes very quickly to a thing ring around the glass.

Aroma starts off with fresh roasty coffee notes. Coffee beans and coffee grounds dominate initially. Very fresh. Nice slight malty sweetness can be perceived when a fresh a batch of raspberry notes creeps up. Slightly tart and sweet. Raspberry pure with some slight cocoa notes and a nice coffee roast.

Starts off with some midl raspberry sweetness that is then followed by some sharp tartness that last only a second. This is then complimented by nice bitter coffee roast. There is some nice slight malty grain notes and sweetness in the background but the raspberry tart notes and the coffee dominate. Very interesting combination of flavors but well executed. Mouthfeel is a bit light in my book. Still pretty good brew.

I finally got to try this. Good brew with interesting but well executed and balanced flavors.
