Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Quadrupel is easily one of the most rich and full bodied beers we make, so when Paul Hayden at the Wine and Cheese Place in Clayton, Missouri asked us to age some in a bourbon barrel, we were happy to oblige. The resulting ale is loaded with oak and bourbon character, as well as the rich, dried fruit character of the Quadrupel. We have created a unique taste you will only find in this extremely limited edition. We filled just one bourbon barrel and may never produce this beer again, so enjoy!

750 mL bottle shared by Chris. Thanks for the rarity!

Pours a dark clear copper-amber color with a quickly fading off white head; no lace or retention. Very boozy on the nose and body, loads of bourbon, caramel, sugar, vanilla, oak and dark fruit. A little thin for style, medium bodied with light carbonation and a very hot, alcohol finish. Still needs some time, but not much upside here.

204 bottles made.

pour was a toffee brown, soft silky caramel. light head.

vanilla and sweet dark candy all up in your nose. very rich, bright, and bourbon.

very bourbon forward. the quad was a tad bit muted which for me is great, i hate quads. however the integration of the bourbon just leveled this out. the dark fruits and fruity yeast with the bourbon and vanilla made for a great winter sipper.

mild to moderate carbonation. very full bodied.

this was great, probably peaking. bourbon was very much there but not hot.

A: pours a clear copper color with a finger of off-white head that recedes into a thin ring with no lacing.

S: lots of caramelized sugar on the nose with oak, vanilla, caramel, and bourbon very present. There are also some light notes of dark fruits and candy sugar.

T: lots of bourbon here with vanilla, oak, caramel, and toffee. Candy sugar, spices, and fig-like flavors come throuh as well. The finish has a moderate alcohol burn.

M: thick body witb lowish cafbonation, this beer is sticky sweet. It's a bit underattenuated for a quad, but that's not surprising since it's barrel aged.

O: a good beer overall. It's a bit too boozy and I wish I had a bottle to save for a few years, but it's still enjoyable.

FINALLY sharing a 1 Pt. 9.4 Fl. Oz. bottle of this w/ friends @ The Royale in St. Louis, MO. Poured from the Yellow/Red Labeled bottle w/ the St. Louis symbol all over the place & "A Schlafly ale for The Wine & Cheese Place" on the front into a 12oz Snifter Glass. Has Bottled with Love On 2 7 12 on the bottom of the bottle.

Aroma- Very sweet to the nose with a huge pomegranate base. Really pops out at you with this character. Almost like an Aged old ale/barleywine. Light bourbon in the finish of the nose.

Appearance- Pours a .5 finger head that quickly dies. Has the darkest copper body and leaves suds on the side of the glass.

Flavor- Sweetness, Bourbon, and a spicy/Quadrupel background. The notes of bourbon came on like waves of flavor. Very nice! Light-Medium Bitterness at the finish.

Mouthfeel- Medium Bodied but thin, Lightest Carbonation, Smoother than ever, and an Awesome Mouthfeel! Tons of sweetness finishes on the palate with a light-medium amount of bourbon.

Overall Impression- Can you obtain a single bottle of this? I sure couldn't. Very glad I have friends that are able to "win" a chance to buy these bottles in the Wine & Cheese Place lottery system. Very perfect and exactly what I thought was coming. A GREAT one by Schlafly and Wine & Cheese Place. Thanks Paul and Stephen!

Poured into a tulip glass from a 750ml bottle.

Schalfly Quad aged in Buffalo Trace Barrels from The Wine and Cheese Place. Part of the stores barrel aging "program". The store will select single barrels from different distillers an get them bottled and then they will donate the barrel to local breweries to age their beers in.

Only 204 Bottles produced.

Barrel filled: 08-05-2011
Bottled: 02-07-2012

Pours a murky brown color with some orange edges and some slight amber notes. There is a very thin head that leaves rather quickly down to a thin film and ring around the glass. The foam is slightly off-white.

The nose initially smacks of delicious Bourbon sweetness. Rich heavy caramel notes with tons of vanilla and butterscotch as well as some nice toffee. Aroma is pretty amazing with nice bready notes in the background and some typical phenolic yeast notes as well. Very well rounded nose that is sweet but approachable.

Starts off with nice dark malt notes with some intense caramel notes and some good butterscotch flavor. Definitely some Bourbon heat. I can sort of taste the Buffalo Trace soul in this brew. There are some nice woody notes accompanied by some vanilla throughout the middle of the brew. The base beer to me seems a bit hidden with some slight chalky phenols and some mild clove lingering in the background. The Bourbon has really done good here but it is definitely at the forefront and not as balanced. Maybe some years will do it wonders but its still very good. The aging give it a bit of a lighter body but still a medium build with some nice lower carbonation that allows all the flavors to move forward.

Overall this is a delicious brew. Definitely very Bourbon forward. Aging will definitely make this beer better even though it is still good. There are good sweet caramel notes as well also some nice toffee and awesome Bourbon and vanilla notes. Good stuff.
