Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Tasmanian IPA is brewed with 100% Australian hops. The Tasmanian hop, Galaxy, is a strong, aromatic variety that is different from traditional strains of the Pacific Northwest. Our brewers developed a recipe that showcases the hop’s unique flavors of citrus and pineapple.

India Pale Ales (IPAs) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

Bottle courtesy of Brandon and bottle dated as just over three weeks old. Ughh...probably a gross, stale fallen off shell of a hoppy beer by now.

Pours a slightly hazed light yellow with a nice crown that sticks around...like British royalty. Lace like post prom.

Smells of green onion and tangerine.

Taste starts Summit-like...big onion...and moves into a vegetative dankness. The finish brightens up with sugared fruit slices...mango and orange with a trailing light sweetness and lingering fruitiness on the tongue.

Thank you Brandon for helping with a want here. A very nice IPA that stands neck-and-neck with, if not above, many of the IPA's I drank this past weekend in Portland.

Glass Used: Nonic pint

Appearance: Hazy golden-orange with an egg shell white two finger dense foamy head. The lace left behind was ample.

Smell: A very delectable sweet grapefruit and pineapple aroma that kept my nose in the glass. Very tropical smelling.

Taste: Full sweet citrus all the way through - orange, pineapple, and some other tropical fruity flavor that has me wanting another swig from the glass. The malt is there toward the end as well. The finish leaves a grassy floral hop note which is downright comforting and relaxing to me.

Mouthfeel:Lip smackingly delicious. Moderate carbonation.

Overall: The more Schlafly I drink, the more I wish they distributed in Dallas. I have not had a bad brew from them and the ones I have had have been down right tasty. Another hearty thanks to Pintofbrown for including this one in our trade.

Pours a clear gold body under a small fizzy white head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is nicely hoppy, very citrusy and fruity with a minimal malt influence. This aroma is all about the hops. The flavor is really juicy and fruity up front, but there’s still a fairly sufficient amount of bitterness as well. Nice lingering hoppiness on the finish. Fairly light, but decently dry and doughy malt backbone. Light bodied with soft fizzy carbonation.

a clean golden yellow pour with a weak 1/4" of head which left a tiny bit of foamy head behind. a citrusy tropical aroma - notes of pineapple, mango, and a hint of mint.. reminds me a lot of the hbc-342 profile. again, a really nice tropical flavor profile, very reminiscent of th ehbc-342 experimental hop profile i messed around with last year on a single hop, single grain beer i did. minty bitterness with a lot of pineapple and mango.
medium in body with a moderate amount of carbonation.
this is a pretty nice experimental ipa. not sure how long it's going to be available so i'd probably pick some up and enjoy it while it lasts. the grain bill tastes fairly simple, but this one's supposed to be all about the hop character anyway, and is a great example of tropical notes in a hop profile.

Pours a hazy golden orange, half finger of white head, nice lacing

Smell is crazy citrus, orange juice, grapefruit, pineapple, tropical notes, fresh cut flowers, tangerine, mangos, guava.... Well you get the idea

Here we go... Taste and I can not wait!, well, citrus and tropical fruit, but no where near the smell. Not that I am not impressed, but bases on the smell I did expect a little more. Orange, Citrus peal, tropical fruit, pine needle, floral notes, grapefruit bitterness in the end... No real notable malt flavor that I can pick up.

Mouthfeel is medium light, heavy carbonation, dry finish

Really nice IPA, if I could get it here I would stock it like mad while in season, If you are looking for citrus/tropical IPA that does it real nicely you can not go wrong here!!!!

Poured from the bottle into a Deschutes pint glass.

Pours a super light, light orange with a small white head. It's almost the same color as the label! Head doesn't last long, but leaves some decent lacing. Surprisingly light colored for an IPA, but it's super tasty looking.

Smell is a puncher. Just wow. Galaxy hops will take the craft brewing world by storm by year's end. Lovely mango, tart, passion fruit and citrus smell. Very sweet, with minimal resiny quality.

Taste follows. Uber punch of the most flavorful hop on the planet, next to cascade. Lots of mango, citrus, melon, apple. Very juicy quality. The contribution the hops make to the othewise light beer are quite wonderful - one of the few beers I've ever had that the hops contributed to the drinkability of a brew. The hops make me want to drink more and more of this.

Overall a very stellar brew.

Great IPA. Tropical and Citrus hops explosion. Pours an almost clear lager gold color with a little hint of yellow haze. Nice size white head and persistent rings of lacing. Good looking beer. Good citrus hops aroma. Taste is really outstanding. Citrus and tropical fruit...(mango) and outstanding bitterness. Legend put out a DIPA like this in 2011, featuring a tropical fruit aspect (the 2012 version is a waste). Really outstanding flavor and bitterness.

Mouthfeel is rich and crisp. There is a softness to it (kind of like Blind Pig) that I like. Plenty bitter, but not over the top.

This is a really outstanding IPA. Hope Grape and Gourmet has more of it. Schlafly does a nice job on most of their beers. This one is really worth your while.

Pours out a really clear bubbly yellow with 1/2 finger of white suds. Lacing around the glass occurs.
Smell is mango and pineapple with lemon peel and sharp piney hop. No alcohol here but there is a burn at the end of the aroma that is probably hops and not the alcohol.
Taste is sharp citrus and grapefruit rind with lemon peel and dark piney hops. No alcohol flavor here either.
Mouthfeel is very dry. The only thing left is a blackness that is the floral hops and the slight hint of the 7.2%.
Overall this is a great beer from a So So brewery. Haven't liked much from Schlafly but this is one of the better IPA's out there.. Bravo Schlafly!!

This is one of those rare beers where, as soon as you take the first sip, you start worrying about getting back to the store to buy more before they run out.

Pour was a ruby/orange with a tight head. Hops lose not time getting out of the gate with a warm aroma of citrus fruits. Up front a touch acidic awash with a plethora of citrus-oriented hops notes - grapefruit, tangerine and blood orange. A veritable fruit bowl of hops without any fruity-qualities to the beer itself. Mid-caramel malt shows up toward the middle, never trying to upstage the hops. Finish is lingering with a firm bittering. ETOH lends the barest touch of white pepper at the finish.

Highly hopped, but not for the sake of hopping itself - an excellent example of citrus-centric hops. If you see it, buy it.

A: Pours a pale-yellow with a white head of foam on top. Very tiny pieces of sediment make this slightly hazy. Good amount of bubbles in the body. Probably would get more point if the body was cleaner, but it looks good.

S: High-quality hoppy aroma. Citrus notes are off the map. Definitely picking up some other fruits as well -- tropical, maybe? Sharp. Crisp. Reminds me of Hop Notch and Corruption. Strong hops. Very nice.

T: Hoppy citrus flavor with a nice sweet malty backbone. Wonderful bitter finish. Resinous. Again, great feature here.

M: Wonderful carbonation. Oily feel. Little bit of a bite leaves it less than smooth. Medium body. Carbonation carries this features.

O: This beer stands out where it counts -- in the smell and taste. Great brew. Great hoppy flavor. Would recommend this brew to any IPA fan.

Just hit shelves today

The beer pours a clear, bright yellow with a finger of bleach-white head that settles into a thin blanketing without lacing. The nose pushes forward potent, unforgiving hop aromatics unmistakably galaxy, with notes reminiscent of unbrewed silver needle tea, white grape, and maybe a hint of garlic/onion. The taste is potently hoppy as well, with a complimentary pale malt sweetness, and very little bitterness on the back end. It drinks easily for a 7% IPA presenting flavorful hops upfront, a semi-dry sweetness, and unnoticeable bitterness in the finish. It's definitely well carbonated, light-medium bodied, and highlights the hop without much interruption. I'm very pleased with this beer, it's easily available, affordable, and I'd readily compare it to half acre's double galaxy.

M: medium-to light, tight and zesty, fresh, clean, bright

The beer comes in a hazy bright marihold with tinges of orange and green.

The aroma has a beautiful tropical and citrus aroma. A wonderful single hopped Galaxy aroma of guava in the front, with tart kiwi juicy sweet oranges, nectarine, dried mango. Very fruit forward gorgeous aroma that actually smells of “real” fruit.

The flavor follows with that juicy fruitiness in the front of guava and fleshy grapefruit. Then onto bitter pineapple, guava, mango then onto a light breadiness and also a bit of grainy flavor. The finish is very bitter of grapefruit peel and pith. Along with a piney resinous bitter as well.

A well made IPA that showcases a fantastic hop that I hope to see more of.

Clear, lemon-straw colored beer. Massive, bubbly head recedes to a swirling film that forms patchy lines of lace.

Sweet fruit aroma with mango and menthol leaves.

Smooth, buttery, white bread malt flavor. Assertive hop character with mango, mint and grapefruit flavors. Honey sweetness compliments the citric hop notes. Exceptional balance and alcohol is completely masked.

Medium bodied. Wet texture mid-drink and slightly drying in the finish. Well carbonated.

Great ipa. Love the citrus flavors and balance.

A - Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a one-finger, white head of bubbly foam. It left thin rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of citrus, orange and grapefruit. There was a hint of bubblegum with some toasted caramel maltiness.

T - Big bitter bite up front with grapefruit, mango and orange flavors. It had a sweet caramel flavor with a touch of toastiness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is another fantastic IPA from Schlafly. I'll be picking up more before this disappears from the shelves.

Poured from tap into snifter at the bottleworks in stl. Pours a clear golden with a thin head. The look is its biggest downfall. Smell is just amazing. Sweet citrus hops. Pineapple and cotton candy just fill the nose. Wow.
Taste is just like it smells and is fantastic. Add a bit of malt to the aromas and boom...tipa.
So smooth and creamy...the mouthfeel is just perfect. Wow. What a superb beer!

12 oz bottle, bottled on 11/26/12, poured into a nonic pint glass.

A- Pours a clear golden color, topped with a finger of white head, leaves some spotty lacing.

S- Big citrusy aroma, lots of grapefruit and orange, as well as tropical fruit notes of pineapple and unripe mango. Also some white pepper and a little bit of caramel malt. It smells pretty damn awesome.

T- Follows the nose with a ton of juicy, vibrant tropical fruit and citrus. Caramel malt provides a nice sweet base, with hints of honey, but doesn't nearly stand up to the hops. White pepper is also noticeable, while alcohol is pretty nonexistent.

M- Medium-bodied, smooth and dry feel.

O- A delicious IPA that serves as a really nice showcase for Galaxy hops (probably the best I've had since Half Acre's Galactic Double Daisy Cutter), the fruit aspect is really awesome and it's also a highly drinkable beer and perfect to pick up as a six-pack. As I've been working my way through the six-pack this week it's actually grown on me more, I'm gonna pick this up again as soon as possible. Definitely give this a shot.

The beer is light golden to orange in color with about a quarter inch of white head. The aroma is the best aspect of the beer. Alluring fresh hops and citrus. Tropical fruit flavors. Lightly sweet. Hop forward with enough of a malt bill to give the beer some body, but still showcase the hop character. Delicious beer. At $10 per sixer, this is a must try for any hophead.

12oz bottle poured into my Three Floyd's glass. Pale golden in color with a frothy white head to it. Very nice lacing and good retention as I drank it.

Aroma is bright and juicy with peach, pineapple and mango all jumping out at you. It's got a bit of a Hawaiian punch flavor going on in the aroma that I'm loving.

The taste shows some of the same juicy, bright, tropical fruit flavors to it, but I also get some strong notes of bitter citrus rind to it. The finish shows some sugary, candied fruits. It comes together very well, I love the juicy hops.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied for the style with carbonation being average. Overall, I thought it was a great beer. It had a fantastic, juicy aroma which was the highlight for me. Very enjoyable beer overall that showed some great hoppy flavors.

Bottled 10/17/2012, 9 days old!

A: One of the lightest colors I've seen in an IPA. Gold, with generous head. Making me thirsty just looking at it.

S: Freshly cut mango, hops. Oh baby.

T: Tropical fruit explosion, thirst-quenching. Light malt backbone. A little grassy. Outstanding beer.

M: Good carbonation, medium bodied. Creamy. Alcohol is well hidden for 7.2%.

O: This might be the best beer I've had from Schlafly to date, and I've had a lot of them. I think I prefer this one over their AIPA. Really wish this was their summer seasonal rather than winter.

Bottle dated 11/7/12. Almost 4 weeks old.

A: Pours a clear golden amber. Big fluffy white head. Fades slowly, leaving nice islands of foam behind. Lots of fluffy lacework to boot. Great head retention.

S: Loads of tropical fruit. Pineapple for sure. Mango and grapefruit? Awesome aroma, so strong, fresh and crisp. Like biting into a fresh pineapple.

T: More tropical fruit. Pineapple is prominent with some mango and maybe....tangerine? Grapefruit follows with a little bit of bitterness. Some caramel malt sweetens it up nicely. Nay, perfectly. Lingering grapefruit and a bit of hop resin in the finish and aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied, smooth.

O: Well, this one knocked my pants off. This one is a sweet tropical fruit bomb. Not overly bitter (but still perfectly bitter), it is balanced very nicely in fact - making it super drinkable. Great beer, so glad I had the opportunity to try it.

Reviewed from notes. Bottled on 11/26/12, consumed on 12/15/12 - so this one was seriously fresh.

A: Poured into a Stella Artois glass at my in-laws' place. Body is clear golden-orange with a small white head that left behind some splotches of lace.

S: Very nice - it's all about the hops: citrus (think grapefruit juice and orange peel) and pine resin.

T: Again, I wrote one word to start it out: "Hops." Grapefruit juice and apricot - reminds me of Sculpin in that way. Some sweet caramel malt underneath. Pine resin towards the end of the sip, then finishes with a dry bitterness.

M: Medium in heft, carbonation is good.

O: An excellent IPA. My brother-in-law brought this up with him from Baltimore; I wish I could get it in upstate NY, as I'd drink it regularly.

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass.

Holy carp this is the PALEST IPA I have ever seen! Fluffy white head, three fingers deep sitting on top of a crystal clear nearly straw yellow pilsner like body. I am talking mirror like reflection in this thing, There is no rising carbonation on this at all, with speckled lacing.

Woah what's that nose!?! Dank apricot.. did I just say that? Yes I did.. in the same sentence. Fresh juicy hop apricot and a faint earth dankness together. Woah that is a combination that I have never had the joy of smelling.. It's a great combination. Fruity but not flakey... Dense but not gritty soil stuck in your teeth.. love where this is going.

Schlafly brings the bread and the goods on the palate. Rich apricot and malt backbone, it's practically baked bread with apricot fruit in it. A real great feel with a classic bread softness, I feel like dried fruit apricot is being pulled out of my teeth and my gums. Dry and resinous, with a thick finish but not much large sweetness which makes it real nice. Feels like fruit/beer territory, the fruit hop angle on this is large, as if they threw fruit in the boil. FRUIT FRUIT FRUIT and it's all HOPS baby.

Schlafly you just keep doing it right... at 7.2 this is going down fast like nothing. It feels even session-able which is a scary downright immoral thing to say. Oh man this is GOOD! You may get a different hop angle, one friend calls pine, the bottle calls citrus, I call apricot blast, either way.. it's pure friggin win.

12 oz bottle into a tulip glass.

Pours a CRYSTAL clear gold, with several fingers of foamy bright-white colored head. This retains with at first a big creamy dollop in the middle of the glass and then finally a thick finger or so of robust froth which coats the sides of the glass with rich sticky lacing. The aroma is equal part floral and herbal in the nose with added notes of grapefruit, lemon, pine and then bright tropical fruit tones of mango and pineapple. A light bready feel hangs along the back. This is fresh and vibrant in the nostrils, with that fruit character in particular really being a stand out.

The taste is juicy grapefruit bitterness that gives off a robust bright feel in the mouth, surrounded on the edges by herbal textures and more sweet tropical fruit character. Malts are fairly neutral here but their sweetness does seem to help draw more of that fruit flavor out from the hops. The finish is dry and resinous with some lingering bitter pith. It’s a bit assertive but not overly so. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with a soft oily crispness to the carbonation that really flows smoothly in the mouth. You don’t get much of a sense of that 7% ABV here at all.

Wow. This is just a tremendous showcase for Galaxy hops and easily surpasses their previous (and excellent as well) bottled American IPA from earlier this year. This has to be one of the best bottled IPAs on the market right now that’s seeing a decent distribution. Grab it if you find it!
