Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: Megahertz on 10-12-2012

Our Tasmanian IPA is brewed with 100% Australian hops. The Tasmanian hop, Galaxy, is a strong, aromatic variety that is different from traditional strains of the Pacific Northwest. Our brewers developed a recipe that showcases the hop’s unique flavors of citrus and pineapple.

India Pale Ales (IPAs) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

I'm a fan of Schlafly and visit the Tap Room whenever in St. Louie; couldn't resist this 6'er from TW for $10.99 (after $1 coupon).

A - the yellowest (looks like a Bud) IPA with barely any head. Despite the small amount of foam, beautiful lacing decorated the glass throughout.

S- Great olfactory sensation! Grapefruit, mango, with a relaxed herbal scent.

T - Similar to the smell, but a little tamer in terms of the citrus. I get almost a roasted fruit flavor (e.g. grilled apricot/peaches) followed by the mellowest piney spice. The warmth of the 7.2 ABV% comes through without overwhelming the flavors.

Mouthfeel - medium body and not overly oily.

O - This is another winner from Schlafly. I really enjoyed the complexity that came with each sampling. Careful though, at 7.2 ABV these could go down waaay too easily.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter

A: a little darker than a bud light, better lacing, not near the clarity of bud light but it's not bad

S: has a little bit of a spicey smell, pineapple, has a souring grapefruit smell I think it's the type of malts They use

T: Nice clean taste alcohol surprised by tasting the booze some pineapple and grapefruit pretty malty too but the malts compliment the bitterness

M: Lingering cloying just ok

O: I had this beer in January and older a lot older and I remember it being a lot better this beer is ok and as dad as schlafly goes pretty impressive but really it's ordinary for most other brewers. I thought this beer was better last year I'm disappointed I have 11 more bottled 9-24-14

Appearance:
Pours a hazy, pale orange color body with a thick, white, three finger head. Light streams of carbonation and plenty of lacing.

Aroma:
A pleasant medley of floral and tropical fruit stimulate the nose. Very sweet citrus notes; pineapple, mango, and starfruit. Light caramel malt.

Taste:
Sweetness hits you like a ton of bricks, it's that potent. Luckily, the bitter bite is swift and unforgiving, lending earthy balance. Pineapple, tangerine, and mango rock the flavor profile upfront while grass and herb on the back. Clean finish with only the faintest hint of alcohol.

Mouthfeel:
Fairly light body for the style. Smooth and easy to drink with a sweet finish.

Overall:
A fantastic IPA that is beautifully balanced, easy to drink despite a rather heavy bite, and 100% enjoyable. Well worth your a slot in your fridge!

Wow is the best thing to say about this beer. Incredible, beautiful honey color. Smell is dank grass and grains. Taste is perfection. Juicy hops, full of fruit and grassy flavors that never overpower each other, sweet and grainy malty background with the tiniest of alcohol sweetness accents. Mouthfeel is great, but a little thin. Had this when it was 3 days old, so that didn't hurt it, but this is a knockout for Schlafly, well done.

Appearance: Pours a golden yellow color…about a finger width, white head formed and lasted…hazy and not overly transparent…livens up nicely when I swirl it around…(4/5)

Smell: Tons of pineapple and grapefruit emanating from the glass as soon as I poured it…light and zesty…orange, tangerine and tropical fruits also very apparent…mildly sweet, there is some grassy and biscuity notes balancing things out…mildly floral, but nothing too powerful, this is a citrus hops dominant IPA…(4/5)

Taste: Orange, pineapple, grapefruit, mango and general tropical fruit tones right away with a noticeable grassiness to it…malts are mildly sweet and biscuity and play a background role…some lemon zest in there as well…a touch of musty yeast lingers after I swallow…fantastic! (4.25/5)

Mouthfeel: Light body, light carbonation…some fluff does form bringing a bit of lemon peel bitterness to the palate…the light body is refreshing and overall, mildly bitter considering it’s an IPA…light lemony/pineapple citrus flavor with a touch of bitterness lingers in the after taste…one of the lightest mouthfeels for an IPA I’ve ever had…(3.75/5)

Overall: This is a good brew and I wish I had more than one…the “T” in T.I.P.A. stands for Tasmanian, signaling this ale was made with 100% Australian hops…I found it while traveling through Kentucky, though it’s made in STL, and picked it up on a mix-a-six rack…this is a quintessential summertime brew with it’s super light, drinkable and refreshing nature…I’m not sure if or when I’ll be seing this again, but I highly recommend picking this up if you see it…this bottle was born in 12/12 and seeing as it’s made with Australian hops, it may be strictly a winter seasonal…even though it’s 3 months old now, I found the flavor to be fresh and zesty and well worth picking up even at this late date…if you see this floating around in your area, pick it up and enjoy…(4/5)

The appearance is a beautifully clear golden hue; could probably trick some bud drinkers into trying this on appearance alone. Aroma is amazing, tropical fruits, citrus and a slightly oniony/grassy smell. Tastes like it smells, pretty much no malt present and this is all hops. Bitterness is as expected, but not overdone. Mouthfeel is pretty standard. Overall one of the better IPA's i've tried. It's amazing what IPAs come from the midwest these days; really only a handful of IPA's on the west coast that are in the same league as this beer.

I would compare this to Stone's enjoy by or toppling goliath zeelander, but this is way better than both (no competition with either in my opinion).
