Notes/Commercial Description:
Our Tasmanian IPA is brewed with 100% Australian hops. The Tasmanian hop, Galaxy, is a strong, aromatic variety that is different from traditional strains of the Pacific Northwest. Our brewers developed a recipe that showcases the hop’s unique flavors of citrus and pineapple.

India Pale Ales (IPAs) were first brewed in England during the late 1700s for export overseas to British soldiers in India. To keep their beer from spoiling during the long voyage, English brewers fortified their traditional pale ale recipes with natural preservatives: more malted barley, for a higher alcohol content, and more hops. In recent decades, with growing appreciation for highly hopped beers, American craft brewers have revived the style, embraced it, and incorporated new hop varieties. Our Special Release IPAs further those traditions and showcase the distinctions of hops from different hemispheres.

There is nothing I don't like about this beer. It looks great, brightish orange with a white foamy head. The smell is insane, it's just bursting with fresh fruit aroma's laced with honey...or something out of this world smelling like that.

Taste - Perfect, I wish I could drink this beer every day. I had it last year and remembered liking it, but this years version seems a lot better. I hope they can replicate it next year, I really wish they sold this year round.

This is my first review, so I don't know a lot of technical terms or anything fancy. I'm a beer nerd, I have been for about 4-5 years now and all I can say is this beer is as good as any I've ever had. I put it up there with Lagunitas Sucks,Gandhi-Bot and Hopslam (when it was still good), and would even put this above one of my all time favorites Nugget Nectar. If you like your IPA's full of fruity juicy sweet delicious mellow nectar, that go down way too easy, you will love this beer. Buy it, smell it, drink it, love it!

*UPDATE - The batch that was brewed on 9/26 is representative of the review above. I got my hands on a case which was brewed on 10/11/13 about a week ago and man was I disappointed. In fact it was a soul crushing blow because this beer neither smelled or tasted anything like the one brewed on 9/26. I'm bummed because I gave Six Packs to a few beer loving buddies promising them the best beer they've ever had and it didn't come close. I've seen Hopslam change and get worse from year to year, but I've never seen this with the same years batch. I don't know if some got infected or what, but this beer isn't good in any way. How can you go from loving a beer so much one week, to literally dumping it the next. Something happened and it's a shame, because when properly brewed and bottled this is the best beer I've ever had.

Poured into a La Gauloise snifter on 10/30/13

Reviewed in memory of MbpBugeye (RIP)

Bottled with love on 10/01/2013

A heavy haziness (not cloudiness) permeates the appearance in sharp contrast to the lightly golden and pineapple juice hue of the beer. It's a delicate look, apparent especially when held even remotely close to the light. The head starts slow and picks up steam in two bouts of surging foam. The head recedes after a short spell. Stands of lace are not in abundance but do thicken up halfway into the glass.

The aroma is that of aging sweet cling stone peaches cut up, crammed into a tupperware container, and left in the fridge for the morrow's breakfast. It is of jam and preserves, and the anticipation of biscuits soon free of the oven. In short, the aroma is wonderful.

The oft used IPA hot words of grapefruit, peach, nectarine and perhaps a nudge from lemon are as prickly as pine-laden offerings and curt as the finish of a Kolsch. The Galaxy hops impart additional light fruit flavors more attributable to Tripels. Given time, the hops gel into a peach-heavy blend that picks up the slack for sweetness in the absence of basically any appreciable malt bill. While it's impressive how dialed back the malts seem, my only gripe is what seems to be a slight void in the taste and aroma. The plus side is that the hop bill is so well crafted it couldn't be bitter if it's wife Fuggled around with East Kent Goldings.

The medium body of the beer is first shaken by the lively carbonation and the assertive hop character. As the hop are reigned in, so too is the carbonation. There is a modest alcohol presence but it is there indeed, manifest in a slickness on the later half; this is most noticeable given the utmost clean finish of the grain and hop bill.

Perhaps inadvertently Schlafly produced an IPA that can not only rival but best most any Belgian style IPA out there. It also holds its own with more common IPAs of the day and, at 7.2% abv, it isn't far from where I like my DIPAs. I picked up the bottle on a whim and it was a good whim to pick up on. Dear Schlafly, please come to Ohio. And thank you for dating your bottles.

Wow is the best thing to say about this beer. Incredible, beautiful honey color. Smell is dank grass and grains. Taste is perfection. Juicy hops, full of fruit and grassy flavors that never overpower each other, sweet and grainy malty background with the tiniest of alcohol sweetness accents. Mouthfeel is great, but a little thin. Had this when it was 3 days old, so that didn't hurt it, but this is a knockout for Schlafly, well done.

On tap at Mahaffey's (from notes).

A: Translucent blonde with a light head and a bit of lacing.

S: Excellent. All hops, mainly citrus.

T: Top notch IPA. Interesting profile. Different citrus and pine combo. Quite sweet with minimal aftertaste.

M: Prickly. Lots of tiny bubbles. Coarse.

O: Love the Galaxy hops in this.
