This beer is retired; no longer brewed.

The pattern established with Pi Pizzeria house beer “Irrational Ale” and “Pi Common” continues with “Golden Mean”, produced exlusively by Schlafly to celebrate their 5th Birthday on Pi Day (3-14). Mathematicians, scientists, artists and musicians have long contemplated the irrational number, 1.618, known as the Golden Mean or Golden Ration and its role in the Fibonacci sequence found throughout nature. From a philosophical standpoint, it is the sweet spot or the desired middle ground between excess and deficiency. We certainly think this light Golden English ale hit the sweet spot with 100% Optic Malt and 100% Northdown Hops!

On-tap at District of Pi, Washington, D.C.:

The beer appeared a darker amber/orange color with a light fluffy white head that dissipated quickly, but ultimately left a thin cap. There was also noticeable carbonation constantly rising to the top of the glass. The beer had a nice citrus aroma and taste, the beer was not overly hoppy. The aroma also had hints of malt and hints of spices. The body was light and the beer was clean, crisp and refreshing. The beer had a nice finish, not too dry or hoppy. Overall, this is a good effort from a pretty solid brewery.
