500ml bottle - $2.99 at Olde Crabapple Bottle Shoppe in Alpharetta, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a cloudy, very dark gold body with a creamyish, off-white head that settles down at a quick rate.

Smell: Wheat bread dough marked by a soft, subtle spiciness, hints of caramelly sweetness, and a gently fruity addition of chopped bananas and orchard fruit.

Taste: Bready, doughy, moderately tangy wheat malt with a fair amount of overall sweetness and low taste of caramel. Quick dash of cider. Yes, you've got your banana esters and clove bud accents, but it's not nearly as forceful as some hefes can be. Light hop character, bitterness. Small pinch of ground mace for spicy, sweetish, crispish finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. Very lightly creamy.

Overall: I thought it was quite nice, actually. One of those beers where each sip demands another and, in short time, it's gone. (905 characters)

On tap at Green Dragon in Portland, OR.

A finger of white head. Deep yellow body, some lace.

Bubblegum banana nose, very sweet.

Slight crispness up front, but then it's a banana-wheat smoothie. Nice.

Not too thick, sparse, bright carb.

Nice-a weisse! Get it? Because, you know.. it rhymes... It's a decent heff, but it's definitely on the sweet side, which works fine for me. (380 characters)

11.2 oz. bottle with some code on the bottom of the label. The beer is an opaque amber, with high carbonation and a finger of tan head that leaves light lacing - a bit dark for the style, but still nice. Smells of malted wheat and sweet malts, with almost overripe bananas, spicy hops, and some fruitiness and yeast. Tangy, tart, and nutty wheat on the palate, with spicy yeast, subdued phenolics (hints of cloves and banana), some fruity esters, spicy/salty hops that impart a mild bitterness, and perhaps a bit of chocolate. The body is very dry, medium, with medium carbonation and finish. Overall it's a well-constructed beer, with lots of wheat flavor and tastes a bit like a cross between a hefe and dunkel weizen. (720 characters)

One of the traditional Hefeweizen beers of Germany.Pours a light copperish colour with beautifull white head. It doesn't mean that beacause it's traditional it's average. This beer is a hell-of-a-beer (200 characters)

I had this one just after an Erdinger and the Maisel’s is so much superior that Erdinger seemed a bore.

Appearance: hazy with a pale orange colour. The head is off-white, huge, and moussy. It has good head retention but not so much lacing when it finally fades.
Aroma: very fruity nose. A mixture of bananas, cloves and other spices. Very pleasant.
Taste: great taste of sweet malts, bananas and spices.
Mouthfeel: smooth and silky, strong carbonation, right alcoholic strength and a full body.
Finish: lingering light fruity aftertaste.

Overall: a great beer. Very refreshing and complex. All I could expect from a Weissbier. I hope I could find another bottle soon. (670 characters)

Review from 12/2010 notes. Poured into a Nostradamus flute glass. Pours a cloudy orange amber with a moderate white head and lacing. A sweet wheat aroma. Pleasant slightly sweet wheat and light fruit flavor finishing smoothly, almost as if the flavor disappears, but leaves a very pleasant light wheat and light sweet malt finish. Very mellow and well balanced. Light to medium bodied. A pleasure to drink. (406 characters)

A: The pour is the typically hazy golden orange color with a couple fingers of white head.

S: Nice sweet banana bread aroma. Cloves give it a pleasant spice note which works very well with the banana and sweet malts. The base is the bready malt character, and there is just a touch of sweet apple.

T: Sweet apple, bread, and banana make up the bulk of the flavor. A nice wheat note to it with a hint of floral honey. The clove is more in the background but gives that familiar spice flavor to the beer.

M: Medium in body with a smooth, creamy carbonation.

O: Really a fantastic hefeweizen. Perhaps I should have picked up another one... (640 characters)

500mL bottle (code 14.F 14:16) into a weizen glass. Pours a beautiful coppery amber color w/ a 1-finger white head, explosive carbonation. Lovely.

On the nose I get a nice blend of pear, apple, banana and spice. Really a surprisingly powerful aroma. Very nice.

Taste follows nose. Lots of sweet fruit, wheat malt, lemon and clean water. A touch of mellow banana/vanilla in there too.

Mouthfeel is just right. Smooth and thirst-quenching w/ a sharp crisp bite on the finish.

Overall I was impressed by this one. Didn't expect much (picked it up on a whim) and was pleasantly surprised. Always the best kind of beer experience when it happens. (645 characters)

Nose: Wheat, malt, oranges, pear, apples, lemons and a hint of floral.
Taste A nice wheat malt complex that laces orange citrus, fruit and a touch of hops on the end.
Overall: This was a very good Hefe and I enjoyed. The finish is slightly sweet. A very good summer beer. (323 characters)

One of the better Hefe's I have had. Bottle poured into a weizen glass. Very hazy amber color with a very large white head(bad pour). Nice fruity smell kinda floral aroma. Light carbonation with a nice smooth banana-esque taste. Very drinkable, will be great choice for me in the summer for a refreshing beverage. Will be grabbing another 6 pack. (346 characters)

Pours a murky burnt orange with a very large fluffy head that quickly reduces to a coating. The aroma is typical weiss beer, and that is always a great thing....lemony, cloves, yeast....This is quite a treat to drink.....so refreshing, even a touch of tartness is in there, lemony, yeasty...refreshing. The German's can't go wrong with this style. (347 characters)

Pours a murky honey orange with a 2 inch foamy bone colored head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of wheat, spice, yeast, banana, and some slight caramel aromas. Taste is of wheat, spice, and yeast up front with a slight banana aftertaste. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a great aroma that is quite easy to drink. (464 characters)

Appearance: Cloudy orange godlden copper tone for the body with a very fluffy highly carbonated orange tinted cream hue for the head leaves speckled lacing not bad. Aroma: Some ripened apple notes along with the sharp spritzy malted wheat sweetness, very pleasant I am feeling a vibe with the apple note. Taste: Creamy sweetness very nice slight chalkiness blended with a suprising bitterness of hoppage not bad. Overall a bit bready but the sweet tones prevail making this a very flavorful Weiss, not bad at all. Mouthfeel: Creamy and high carbonation I like the combonation this wheat presents. Drinkability: I'm not too keen on this style of a weizen for pure drinkability but I do find it interesting. (705 characters)

Purchased at Chips in Nags Head. Very enjoyable. Poured a CLEAR gold, somewhat darker than the typical hefe. I was surprised to see a clear beer, maybe I should have swirled it or something. Typical hefe big bubbly white head.

Smell was pronounced and good. Wheat, astringency, signs of good things to come. Tasted very good. Astringent, hint of bubble gum, some citrus and wheat beer smoothness. Not as spicy as some hefes with cloves etc. and not as astringent as hefes like Koenig Ludwig but a good solid flavor.

Mouthfeel is rich and crisp. Drinkability is excellent. One of the better hefes!! (599 characters)

Pours a golden wheat color that is murky with a nice head that whittles down a tad, but stays with you for the duration. Nice banana bread and brown sugar aroma with a refreshing, fruity banana taste. Not in the same league with Weihenstephan, my favorite, but this is a very solid example of the hefe style. (308 characters)

First beer I had tonight, overall it reminded me of so many belgian beers, it really did not stand out as a favorite of mine although it is a beer I can see myself getting in the future, overall it went well with white chedder and wheat crackers, all in all I also finished it off with a very good beer cheese fondue. I tend to wish I would have drank the Samual Smiths India Ale with the fondue. (396 characters)

Goodbye Winter Warmers, Barleywines, and Old Ales for a while, it's already feels like summer here in NC. At 86 degrees and the first day mowing the lawn, this one really hit the spot afterwards. Lots of bananas and clove, but quite quenching and easy to drink as well. Lots of carbonation and good head retention. This one the ladies would love as well. (354 characters)

Served cool from 500ml bottle into Schneider Weisse glass.

L) Copper / deep amber colour, very hazy, looks great against the bright white dense 2cm head.

S) Sweet toffee-marmalade. A bit of hoppiness in there.

T) Rich orange marmalade with bannoffee pie finish. Lemony zest on top of the deeper flavours.

F) Clean mouthfeel with great acidic bite.

O) Another very good weizen; recommended. (396 characters)

Haven't gotten to too many hefe's this summer, and that's a shame. Time to change that. A murky, dark orange, almost amber brew is topped off with a big rolling off-white head which stays put for a bit while the active carbonation shoots to the top. All the typical hefe aromas are present, including banana, spice, grapefruit and maybe even some coriander. The smells are vivid and complex and very promising. Tastes spicy, tart and piney up front with a good fruity kick in the middle and a sweet malty finish. Mouth-feel is light bodied and atypically crisp, yet still weizen like in that it has some creaminess too. Figure that one out. After a few drinks a sour essence presents itself but doesn't take too much away from the experience. This one's a keeper. (763 characters)

Pours a honey amber with a big fluffy white head that receedes rather quick leaving sheets of lace that receede as quick.

Nice floral sweet aroma.

Very balanced tart wheat and sweetness that leads to a very low but spot on bittering. Floral and earthy spicy hopping.

Very well recieved medium body for hot days.

Can and have quaffed this delectable beer all day. (366 characters)

This hefe is right up there with Franziskaner IMO, if I had a choise between the two I would be happy with either. Very good deep, hazy appearance and nice foamy white head, this beer leaves a nice lace down the glass also. The only drawback is the aroma, while not bad it had a faint skinky smell to it. But that's not enough for you not to drink it, because it has a nice feel and very good citrus tatse to it. Enjoy this beer anytime I know I do...........CHEERS (469 characters)

1 pint .9 oz bottle served into a half liter Kapuziner weiss glass, this pours a cloudy honey amber body with a large almond hued head. Good retention and lots of clingy patch lace on the glass. Aroma is mostly citrusy lemon and yeast, with notes of coriander and overripe banana in the background. Mouthfeel is creamy and well carbonated, with a solid medium body. Excellent mouthfeel for the style. Taste features bready sweet wheat, lemony citrus, understated spicy clove and coriander, overripe banana, and a strong yeast presence. Very tasty Hefe. A nice rendition of the classic German style that is very drinkable and refreshing. (636 characters)

Appearance - 4.5
Pours orange to amber, a shade darker than most of the style. Atop sits a fluffy two fingers of off-white head. Very little haze in the original pour, but once the yeast is added, it is properly cloudy.

Smell - 4.0
Citrus (mostly lemon), banana, clove and light spice. Tempting.

Taste - 4.0
Falls short of the very best (Weihenstephan) but still a very tasty hefe. More bitter in the finish than most, which is at-odds with the style, and for this it loses points. Flavours of clove, mixed spice, orange peel, a soft apple-like fruitiness and a hay-like wheatiness.

Mouthfeel - 4.0
Again, not quite as smooth as the best, but there is persistent fine and reasonably lively carbonation.

Drinkability - 4.0
Very drinkable, particularly in summer. The fact that Weihenstephaner exists is probably the only thing that would stop me from buying more.

OVERALL - 4.1
A good example of one of my favourite styles. (927 characters)
