I poured my Maisel's Weisse Originial from a bottle into a mug with a dark tangerine colour with a 1cm of head that left no lacing. The scent was of banana, cloves and bubblegum. In terms of taste and mouthfeel, a prickly spice hit me first, then bubblegum with a less prominent wheat taste. I'm a huge hefewiezen fan, and I really enjoyed this one, so I'll definitely be drinking it again.

A cloudy, orange-amber body is capped by a full head of rocky white foam that slowly drops (no doubt buoyed by the teeming effervescence beneath) to a thin, creamy surface covering that holds throughout the entire glass but surprisingly leaves only spotty lace. The nose offers a light note of apple-like tartness, some soft vanilla and caramel, and a sprinkling of delicate spice. The body is light and it's crisp in the mouth with a very fine and effervescent, natural carbonation. The flavor reveals a wheatish malt that's nicely caramel-tinged with just the slightest touch of tartness and a sublime bitterness that acts only to balance. This weizen is more fruity and caramelish than the atypical banana-clove-phenolic Bavarian versions, and it makes a refreshing change of pace!

had this from a 1/2 litre bottle.
A: Pours a nice orangey-yellow color with moderate carbonation. Different look from Hacker-Pschorr or Schneider. A good looking bier.
S: Citrus smell, lemon mostly. Very inviting.
T: Follows the smell well. A full lemony taste that is very refreshing. No bitter after-taste.
M: No problem here. East going down/
D: I could have many of these without thinking. A very good weizen.

Overall, this is in my top 5 weizens and a true pleasure to drink, if you can find it. It is hard to find, but if you see it, get it!
I strongly recommend this bier. Prosit!

Pours a cloudy copper color with tiny little particles of suspended yeast. A huge fluffy head presents itself upon pouring, which slowly dies down leaving a nice thin lace on the glass. Aroma is full of bananas, lemon zests, and clove. Bananas are detected upon the first taste, followed by spicy cloves and malted wheat, finishing off with a mild bitterness of yeast. This is a good all around Hefe- that I could drink any day of the year.

Took a chance on this beer at Trader Joe's for $4.99 a six pack and WOW was I surprised. The color was a hazy golden wheat with an orange hue and poured sort of thick. The aroma was of cloves and the flavor was just great. It was the normal smooth wheat and clove taste with just a hint of bitterness at the end. This was a well balanced weisse beer.

Poured from a 16.9 oz bottle into a weizen glass. The beer poured a dark golden color with a nice light white head, like any good hefe should. The aroma was sweet and bready. The taste was very good. Nice wheat/bready flavor with hint of fruit, but not that sweet. This made the beer Highly drinkable and a very good session beer. Excellent beer.

Poured a hazy bronze color with a pillowy head and some lacing in the glass. Had that classic German Weiss aroma of banana and cloves from the yeast. Taste was the same, with some tempered sweetness. Delicious and a joy to drink, especially with food. Mouthfeel was full, with rich carbonation; very refreshing. Drinkability is good, as the taste is excellent.

Hazy light copper / orange in hue, covered by an animated, off white head w/ soft peaks. Lively carbonation. Wheat tartness upfront in aroma is immediately ensued by mild clove phenols, and subtle banana esters. Caramel and toasty Munich notes provide a pleasant contrast to the somewhat refined yeast derived estery and musty aroma. Trace bubblegum. Flavorwise, this beer exhibits a fine balance of a toasty, somewhat buttery continental malt backbone, wheat tartness and a relatively subdued banana ester and clove profile for style. A touch thin in body and not quite proteinaceous enough in mouthfeel to support the above average malt character. Finishes with a snap of caramel giving way to lingering, but pleasant grainy wheat tartness. If it weren't for the lack in body, Maisel's Weisse would be outstanding. Regardless, the drinkability is excellent.

500 ml bottle, bought in Germany. ABV is 5.4%. Hazy amber colour, large slightly off-white head. "Absolutely fabulous" aroma, orgasmic in its abundancy of fruitiness and spiciness. Notes of leather too. Flavour is bit more restrained, still very nice with all the traditional hefe characteristics, wheaty and yeasty with cloves but also some caramel and brown bread. Aftertaste is, like with most wheat beers, very moderate but nice. Can you expect a hefeweizen to be much better than this?

Super traditional Weizen Beer from the Bayreuth region of Bavaria.
Pours a super murky orange, tan unfiltered apple cider color. The light tan thick foamy crown is really beautiful to behold. Picture Perfect Hefeweisse.
Smells of apple, nutmeg, brown sugar, caramel, a heavy hand of banana ( a key point for me), nutmeg, raisin, vanilla, cider tartness comes out and becomes more prevalent as the beer warms, cutting through the original sweet impression. Grains, musty wheat, tart citrus come into play as well. Overall a really good to great Hefe nose, touching in the upper echelons of Weihenstephan or Ayinger. after living in Munich for a year and studying brewing, it tends to set high standard.
Onto the first sip--wow-first reaction. Banana, clove, pepper, cider, apple, fermented pear, tingling fresh black pepper, light vanilla, bread, maltiness akin to molasses, orange, wheat comes into play. Flavor is one of the best Ive ever had.
Mouthfeel is medium, thick and tart and refreshing all in one. Thick, creamy, fruity, yet tart, refreshing and biting-the perfect Hefe. This small Brewery from Bayreuth has made a Hefe on par with the bigger and more famous Weihenstephaner and Schneider Weisse. A truly great Hefe--great brew, hence my high rating

I'd seen this beer a million times and passed it over for more recognizable brands. I was really surprised today when I opened the first .5 liter bottle.

Appearance - this is actually one of the darkest (non-dunkel) hefes that I've found. The beautiful orange color is something of an anomaly. The head is extra bulbous and lasts a good while.

Smell - cloves, banana, and a bit of citrus.

Taste - why did I wait so long to try this hefe? It's every bit as good as any other easily found hefe on the market. Very fresh, crisp.

Mouthfeel - highly carbonated.

Drinkability - hefeweizwen's aren't really highly drinkable as a style since they are a tad heavier than most other styles. With that said, I could easily enjoy 1.5 liters in one sitting.
If you see this brand at your local beer seller, give it a try...it's a great example of the style.

clear yellow before I swirled the bottle and poured the yeast, then a cloudy dark yellow color with a thin white head

smells like bubble gum in the bottle, then sweet bread and spices once in the glass

taste is nicely balanced with spice up front, then sweet banana bread, bubblegum and finishes smokey.

mouth feel is crispy with a creamy, wet finish

overall, this is really good. I will look for it again

Bottle into a small pilsner glass. Not the best choice, but you work with what you have available.

Pours a cloudy orange after a stirring of the yeast, with a short-lived fluffy white head.

Nose is juicy - lemon zest and wheat, light vanilla and banana, earthy yeast providing just a bit of doughy sourness.

Taste is a bit citrusy, zesty, light vanilla, crisp, smooth wheat, fairly bright. Finish is doughy, just a bit earthy, more citrus zest. Clean.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp, and clean for a hefe - creamy body is full bodied but deceptively light, nice exhale that sticks with you a long time.

Drinkability is fantastic. Clean, flavorful, perfectly authentic, and just begging for another sip. Very well executed.

500ml bottle poured into a 22.3oz weizen glass.

A - Pours with a monstrous head of foam like a good hefe should. A slightly off white foam sitting atop a golden-amber brew with ample haze. A little darker in general than hefes I'm used to. Head retention and lacing are pretty poor for the style though; a shame.

S - Tons of bready and yeast goodness. Crisp wheat, banana, clove and pear. Lots of spice for a hefe. Just a delicious aroma all around. Simple and fitting aroma for the style, but so good.

T - A perfect continuation. A ridiculously drinkable mixture of doughy bread, hefe yeast, cloves, lots of spice, and mild fruitiness. The usual crisp fruity character expected from hefes takes a bit of a backseat here for more spicy esters. Some sweetness comes through in the form of light caramel malt with hints of vanilla.

M - The body could use some work. The carbonation feels too distant from the smooth, medium body. The carbonation is done well, and so is the viscosity, but they just don't seem to meld together like they should.

D - Overall a damn drinkable hefe with a slight twist to it. An easy style to enjoy, especially this time of year. I definitely see myself drinking this again in the near future. Good stuff!
