750ml bottle received in trade with busch03. Thanks! Poured into a Russian River Belgian glass.
A - Pours a deep ruby red with a tinge of amber in there that keeps it from being pure red. A 1 1/2 finger tannish and pinkish head forms. Tight, tiny caronation bubbles make a thick whipped creamy head. Head fades after a couple of minutes leaving a steady layer of foam on the surface. Thick even lacing chases the beer down to the bottom of the glass.
S - Ripe, sweet and tart cherries. Smells like a fresh baked cherry pie. Not very multi-dimesional, but amazing anyway.
T - Relatively sweet. Cherry flavor sets the pace...as intense as the cherry aroma is, the flavor is even more so. There is a sugary sweetness up front that seems to enhance the fruit. This gives way to an underlying tart and sour aspect that complements and adds some complexity. Some wheat malt character appears too, but can't really hold up to the powerful cherry taste.
M - Very highly carbonated. This has an almost champagne like effervescence. Body is light. This beer is quite sweet, but this gets scrubbed away by the offseting tartness leaving the mouth feeling cleansed and ready for another sip.
D - This is an exceptionally drinkable beer. Alcohol level is low, and it's presence is undetectable while drinking it. Very much like cherry champagne. This would go great with any kind of dark chocolate based dessert.

Poured into a tasting glass. A dark, ruby color with a finger of creamy looking white head. Smell is pure cherry. A malt sweetness is lurking in the background, but it's hard to detect anything behind the huge cherry presence. The taste is only cherry juice. I'm not sure this can be called beer. I could drink this in the morning with my toast. Like with the other New Glarus beers of this ilk, I'm finding the 4 or so ounces I consumed to be a good amount. The sweetness and one noted-ness was just getting to me by the end. Still an absolute killer offering.
