This beer is brewed with whole Montmorency Cherries (Over a pound of Door County Cherries in every bottle) Wisconsin Farmed Wheat and Belgian Roasted Barleys, lagered in oak tanks and balanced by Hallertau hops we aged in our brewery one full year.

Appearance: ruby red small foam and almost no lacing

Smell: Cherry aroma sweet and malty

Taste: This is what cherries aspire to be a part of! Wonderful cherry beer, differant then a Kriek but almost a cherry soda

Mouthfeel: smooth cherry coated after taste vey pleasant

Overall: this beer is world class, smooth and tasty.

I would love to see such a beer at 8% ABV, as a strong fruit ale

750 ml wax-dipped green bottle poured into tulip.

A - Deep blood red in color, Wisconsin Belgian Red pours with a frothy dirty pink foam that subsides to loosely packed bubbles and a smattering of thin lace on the tulip.

S - Cherries, cherry skins, and more cherries! The aroma is of fresh fruit, not that cough syrup artificial BS you get in some cherry beers. While New Glarus' fruit beers are spontaneously fermented, many of them don't show the slightest hint of wild yeast. Wisconsin Belgian Red is the most forthcoming with it's wild profile, though; behind the cherries lies the distant aroma of a forgotten, dusty wooden barn and trails of horse blankets it once held.

T - Beautiful cherry flavor coats the tongue with true fruitiness from the pit to the skin's sharp tannins while the spontaneous fermentation trickles traces of dry wild yeast across the back of the tongue. Perfection!

M - Effervescent carbonation livens up the sweet cherry profile of Wisconsin Belgian Red before it's finish is punctuated with a nicely balancing level of tart, relaxed cherry skin acidity.

O - New Glarus' Wisconsin Belgian Red is not only one of the greatest cherry beers available anywhere, it's also one of the most quintessential fruit beers on the planet. Packed to the brim with fresh cherries, this beer smells and tastes sublime, finishing semisweet with a perfect level of tart cherry skin acidity!

Poured from a waxed 750 ml bottle into a tall New Glarus Signature Pilsner Glass.

Appearance: Pours a deep amber red with a lot of rising bubbles. Solid two fingers of light pinkish white head which slowly fade into a thin creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A crisp, sweet, and very juicy aroma with a huge scent of cherries and some yeast. Very fruity and juicy throughout with a big upfront scent of fresh cherries. The fruit smells nicely sweet and tart but far from cloying. Bready presence of wheat and pale malt with hints of grains, yeast, and cracker. Also some hints of oak and vanilla. Subtle presence of earthy hops in the background. A really great juicy aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a juicy, sweet, and spritzy taste with a huge presence of cherries along with some malt and subtle hops. Big dominate taste of fresh cherries which taste nicely tart with a good restrained sweetness. Solid backing presence of bready wheat and malt with notes of grain, cracker, and yeast. Some notes of oak and light vanilla come through. Subtle background notes of earthy hops as well. A very good juicy fruit taste.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a fairly high level of carbonation. Very juicy, spritzy, and creamy. Sweetness is nicely balanced. Very smooth feel.

Overall: A really great fruit beer. One of the best American takes on the style. Great taste of real fresh cherries.
