Beer-gasm

L: Cloudy red with white head that quickly dissipates.

S: Boom! Big cherry! No mistaking this one for what it might be.

T: Huge, delicious cherry. Best fruit beer I've ever had. Hint of cinnamon. Perfect sour-ish-ness (not too much, not too little) with tart.

F: Light carbonation that tickles the tongue. Smooth mouthfeel.

O: Best. Fruit. Beer. Bar none. (378 characters)

This beer is just packed with cherries. From reddish hue to cherry nose and tart cherry flavor. Some deep malt and wood flavors in the background. Would have again. (164 characters)

There is significant aggressive carbonation, and the mouthfeel is crisp.

The flavor of tart cherries is fully developed, potent, and anchor the beer through to the finish. As the cherry dissipates a bit a sweet doughy quality comes through on the back end midsip, and gives the beer a pastry like flavor. That however is short lived, as drier oaky wood notes clear things out.

The lingering flavor is sharply tart cherries and light wood.

A great beer at the near pinnacle of the style. It leans towards the one-dimensional, but there is just enough to open the beer up to make it a real worthy beer of seeking out. (619 characters)

Beer pours ruby red in color with a light pink head.

Cherry aroma, sweet cherry taste with a slightly tart finish.

This beer is a cherry bomb through and through. It is absolutely delicious. The cherry flavor, aroma, and color is very authentic and not cough syrupy like a lot of commercial cherry beers. Beer is not very sour but just tart enough in the finish to give the impression of tart cherries. (404 characters)

Poured from a 750ml bomber into a stemmed tulip glass and shared with friends.
Thanks to Gotti311 for the bottle!

I have never had a beer that was so singular in flavor profile that was so absolutely delicious! This brew is a psalm to cherries from start to finish. The dark brown-reddish body, the tan/pinkish head and the blast of cherries in the nose and on the palate all scream ripe, red, juicy cherries. It also achieved an impressive body and mouthfeel at only 4%. Truly delicious! (492 characters)

750 mL bottle purchased at the brewery, unknown brewing/packaging date but likely 2014; poured into their flute-ish pint glass (obtained at the brewery); drank over 30 minutes

A: 3/3 - ruby red coloration; high clarity (can both read and see through); initially frothy, pinkish head settles into a subtle glass lacing; small carbonation bubbles arising off the bottom of the glass; moderate alcohol legs

S: 10/12 - total cherry bomb from the first opening of the bottle and essentially overwhelms all other flavors - no hops, no malts, no yeast

T: 17/20 - on the front of the tongue, there is lite bitterness; this is immediately overtaken by huge cherry pie and Robitussin notes; very little alcohol or yeast flavors on the back end but finishes semi-sweet and inviting

M: 4/5 - high carbonation, low-to-moderate body, refreshing finish

T: 9/10 - essentially a one-dimensional fruit bomb but that's what the style is about? I'd put it up there with the best Belgian krieks; for $9.25/750 mL bottle at the brewery, this is a total steal that is recommended for trade if not in WI

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a Lindeman's flute. Acquired in a trade with moonman14, thanks!

Pours a hazy, effervescent dark amber body with a big gushing light pink head that reduces quickly at first, then slows down to leave frothy foam which sticks around for a while. Leaves nice lacing.

Aroma is BIG cherries.. cherry candy, marischino cherries, all cherry! Slight metallic aroma in he background.

Taste follows the nose, big cherries, pretty sweet but not cloyingly, slightly tart finish. It might be my imagination but I got a hint of cinnamon on the finish. High carbonation, extremely refreshing and tasty. Medium body, slightly syrupy.

I'm a sucker for a cherry bomb, and WBR didn't disappoint.. straight cherries all around. Comparable to Lindemans but a little less sweet and more full body. If you like a lot of cherry flavor, seek it out. (863 characters)

Went to New Glarus Brewery a few years ago and fell in love with this beer. It just royally sucks that we cannot get it here in Oregon. It is the best tasting cherry beer. The cherry is fresh, tart yet sweet and the bubbles are amazing. It is a beer I still talk about to this day, very worth while. (303 characters)

This is liquid cherry pie! Color is a dark red, aroma is cherry puree, and taste is like sweet cherry pie. If you like cherries, this beer is for you. (150 characters)

A delicious example of what New Glarus fruit brews offer.

In the front, Luden's cough drops and Starburst cherry flavors. A touch of tart quality with lots of red candy cherry fruit flavor. A touch of malt in the middle and a tart quality that dries out the beer.

A good amount of flavor for the ABV. They stand pretty similar in quality for me so far. (354 characters)

Served in a Duvel Tulip glass. Pours a nice dark ruby color with a thin white head reminiscent of pancake batter. Smell is full of fresh cherry sweetness with maybe a slight hint of pie crust. Taste follows the noise with gooey fresh cherries, oak, and pie crust. Decent carbonation with a syrupy mouthfeel.

As close to a liquid cherry pie as you will get. Great execution and balance. Definitely share this one with others. Its too rich to have more than one class.

Cheers! (484 characters)

Had this on 2014-09-21 in Spartanburg, SC from a 25 oz bomber, which has a regular bottle cap but is sealed with wax. My buddy Pat brought this on the plane from Wisconsin, which is why I can have it here in SC.

A - Murky cherry-red/brown with a huge 4-finger tan head that drops pretty quickly to 1-finger with light lace.

S - Ginormous cherry aroma and a bit of yeast and light malt. Great smell.

T - Well, if you like the taste of cherries you'll love this. It's sweet but less than a Lindemann's Kriek. Fortunately the sweetness isn't cloying and there's a mild malt body and some oak tannin to add complexity. There's a decent amount of tartness to balance the sweetness.

M - Medium body with low carbonation yields a mildly creamy feel.

O - Well crafted. Tons of flavor and aroma. Hard to believe this is just 4.0% (837 characters)

maroon-brown in color...
nose is cherry cobbler-- stewed cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg
flavor is similar to the nose-- cherries, cinnamon, a lot of nutmeg and a hint of vanilla...
mouthfeel is full and well-carbonated, with a dry finish...
Overall-- this is an exceptional beer, not my usual style but very well done. Sweet but not cloying, dry enough that I could drink more than one. (386 characters)

Pours a light cola color with lots of red accents. 2 finger dense tan head that lingers for a while. 4.5

Straight up cherries on the nose. Sugary. Some wafers . Mostly cherry pie. 4

Quite sweet. Massive amounts of cherries again. Intensely sweet, but remains fairly balanced. 3.75

A quick carbonation burn towards the start. Drinks very easy. 4

O- One of the better fruit beers I have tried. Cherry pie in a glass. Perfect desert beer 4 (451 characters)

Beautiful garnet clarity, indicative of the fruit from which it was made. Reminds me of red wine, perhaps a red zin. Smells of tart cherry, with a bit of candy sweetness. Not at all reminiscent of flavoring. It's the real deal. Flavor is as good as you could expect from a cherry beer. Tartness wins in the end, but there's a great sweetness. (342 characters)

Pours a deep ruby red with a rather pretty strawberry colored head. Very well carbonated.

Smells incredible. Lush cherries that smell like you dove in a pool of them.

Floored instantly. Delicious in every way. Not so much a beer but like drinking a liquified, fermented cherry.

Mouthfeel is crisp and refreshingly carbonated to help cut down on the sweetness.

Overall this is perfect. (388 characters)

Poured into a tasting glass. A dark, ruby color with a finger of creamy looking white head. Smell is pure cherry. A malt sweetness is lurking in the background, but it's hard to detect anything behind the huge cherry presence. The taste is only cherry juice. I'm not sure this can be called beer. I could drink this in the morning with my toast. Like with the other New Glarus beers of this ilk, I'm finding the 4 or so ounces I consumed to be a good amount. The sweetness and one noted-ness was just getting to me by the end. Still an absolute killer offering. (561 characters)

Being a huge fan of New Glarus and pretty much everything I've had from them, I was pretty excited to finally try this one. I love cherries, so this has been a want for a bit.

The appearance and smell were awesome. Nice reddish hue and big cherry smell. Good carbonation. Not a huge head. Looking good so far.

Then....I tasted it and I felt like I was a kid again when Mom was trying to shove that synthetic flavored 'cherry' swill down my throat when I had a boo boo. I took another sip, then another, then another...then stopped. Wife tried it and like it...wife gets bottle of Belgian Red.

Really disappointed, esp after how much I love Raspberry Tart and Serendipity. This was not good, at least to me. Wife thought otherwise. (733 characters)

750 ml bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Gifted to me from my mom on a recent trip to Wisconsin. My first of the glorious fruit beers from New Glarus Brewing Co., and my first review of a New Glarus beer. Expectations are excellent based on this beer's high ratings.

Poured into a Duvel tulip glass.

A - Pours a bright juicy cherry red colored body. Just over a finger of pinkish tinted foam for a head. Leaves some thin lacing behind. Looks beautiful.

S - The smell is beautiful & natural. Tart, juicy, ripe, natural cherries dominant the aroma.

T - This thing is truly some next level type shit right here. Cherries, cherries, cherries. Sticky, lightly sugary, perfectly tart. So juicy and delicious.

M - The feel is smooth, fluid, and juicy. Perfectly sweet & tart. Medium bodied with excellent carbonation.

Overall, this has got to be the most delicious and most authentic fruit beer I've had to date. I'd say it is even much more cherry forward than the Drie Fonteinein Intense Red Oud Kriek. Absolutely delicious & highly recommended.

poured from 750ml bottle into a New Glarus flute glass.

A - Astounding ruby red beer. Heavy carbonation, but not much head retention. Super nice looking liquid!

S - Cherry pie, maraschino cherries, a bit of cinnamon and other spice. Extremely delectable aroma.

T - Goddamn!!! Cherry pulp, cherry pie, apple, cinnamon, spices. It tastes like diving right in to a cherry pie! This is a godly fruit beer. Up there with the likes of even Serendipity!

M - Typical New Glarus fruit beer. Very high carbonation, but ties the whole brew together and makes it pop on the palate.

O - Much like the rest of New Glarus' fruit beer lineup; I am blown away. This might be tied with the deliciousness that is Serendipity. I am a huge sucker for cherries, and this beer is no exception. I am so glad to have finally tried this! (816 characters)

Appearance is ruby red with a foamy red/white head.
Aroma is farm fresh cherries, berries, sugar, some faint spice.
Flavor is deep tart cherry, almost black cherry. Sugar sweetness to balance it out.
It's just a great back and forth balance of tart and sweet cherry.
Mouthfeel is medium to full. It coats your mouth and lingers for a little bit.
