750ml bottle picked up at the store today to celebrate being done with Step 2 CS. Poured into a Hill Farmstead stemmed glass today, 2/4/2014. Surprisingly I have never reviewed this beer despite having it many times over the years.

App- A dark ruby body with a thick, effervescent brown-pink head, fair retention, nice thick bubbly collar. Some lacing.

Smell- Tart cherry pie. Base is sweet candied sugars and perhaps subtle biscuit malts, all of which are dominated by tart cherries. Lots and lots of cherries.

Flavour- Similar to the nose- but the base biscuity malts are more apparent, providing the crust to the tart cherries to complete the pie combination. As it warms up, the cherry flavours become slicker and sweeter- making this more of a cherry-flavoured Jolly Rancher! No acidity or vinegar to be found.

Mouthfeel- Medium-thick bodied, on the verge of syrupy. Slick and resinous; tart fruit aftertaste that sticks around. However, incredibly easy to drink. No surprise that it's 4% ABV. Will probably dust off the bottle on my own.

Overall- Very sweet and cherry-forward, no acidity. Most certainly the best in the fruit beer style, and one of Wisconsin's best beers that isn't an one-off (looking at you, VSB). Clearly New Glarus has the market cornered on this category.

A: A very deep inviting red. Pours a light head that dissipates to a ring around the glass. Lightly carbonated.
S: Overwhelming smell of cherries. Brings back memories of browsing Door County markets in the summer.
T: Very tart cherry taste throughout with quite a bit of sweetness.
M: Has a full feel to it that hangs around. Slight carbonation but not much. Very smooth.
O: Nice beer with a ton of cherry flavor. The bottle says there is a pound of cherries in every bottle and you definitely taste it. I know its a cherry beer but was hoping for a bit of other flavor that I could not seem to find. Still a very good drink.
