Near-opaque auburn/orange body with one finger of head which subsides within a minute. There's some lasting viscosity as I swirl the beer and the lacing is a cut above.
Gentle pine aroma moves over to accommodate a sort of mixed fruit nose (strawberry and kiwi). Malt makes itself known on further sniffs.
Quite malty for an IPA and while the hops are present from start to finish this is anything but a typical American IPA. In fact, the understated nature of the beer is far more reminiscent of an English stab at the style although the long (and I mean long) finish is pure, piny American hops. The balance is actually quite astounding.
Although it is well carbonated, the malty body almost achieves a sort of creaminess. I would prefer the style to be a bit more crisp. Still, this is an excellent little beer and its controlled nature makes it the rare IPA that lends itself to sessioning.

A very orange beer, you didn't see this color in Midwest beers too often if at all back when this hit shelves for the first time. The dry hopping wasn't huge, but it was a shift in direction for this region.
Taste was a nice drier toasted pale malt bill paired with hops beyond your usual 6% midwest ipa. Very little caramel, this paired toast with green veggie hops. Its pretty straightforward and easy drinking around the 50ibu range. I really liked it.
