Thanks to Bitterbeerguy for the bottle.

Appearance: Slightly hazed straw gold. Head is bright-white and quickly dwindles to a thin ring around the edge of the glass. Wisps of lace. Lively carbonation pulls throughout.

Smell: Apples, corn, grass, and pale malts. Nice fruity profile over a husky grassiness. Almost smells like a cider at the get-go. Slight tang of something that smells like wheat, but I know isn't. Very clean and crisp.

Taste: Pale malts ahoy! Loads of crisp delicious apple rounded out by some corn sweetness. Oh yeah, you can taste the corn. Touch of skunk lingers in the back giving it an extra edge. Sweetness is on point and adds a nice depth to the otherwise mellow flavor profile. Apples and corn chips.

Mouthfeel: On the thinner side of medium. Carbonation is high, but on point. Drinks on the smooth side with a nice dryness rounding out the back.

Overall: I would kill to have this as an every day drinking beer. It's at home with a day of mowing the lawn and football games or just sitting around and enjoying. A nice level of flavor and just enough of it to keep things interesting.

By this point, this beer is an iconic brew in Wisconsin and helped make New Glarus brewery a major player in the State's micro brewery scene. I have become more of a heavy beer fan so I don't look as fondly at Spotted Cow as I used to but it still has a very crisp, wheat, refreshing taste that makes it a great option for a session beer or a hot summer day. I have also always really enjoyed the cloudy look in the glass.

A: Slightly hazy off-yellow piss color (and I mean piss in the best sense of the word). A shallow but dense head caps the beer nicely.

S: Light and airy, but without much that gives it character.

T: A nice subtle background of malt but without much in the foreground. It tastes like a REALLY good macro-lager. I can't decide if that's a compliment or not. This beer is good, but having never had anything comparable I can't judge it against much. It's got a great finish though

M: Delicious. Light, airy, but not watery and the carb is great. Probably my favorite part of the beer.

O: I have nothing to compare it to, but I like it a lot. Very easy-drinking.

A - Pale golden color, slightly hazy. Not too much head but decent amount of lacing.

S - Sweet and creamy malt with tiny amount of grains.

T - Light and sweet. Hints of corn and milk.

M - Good amount of carbonation. Light bodied.

O - Could use a little more head retention and slightly watery, but it's a great light lager and highly drinkable.

A review of New Glarus' flagship beer from a bottle.

A- Pours a pale yellow, which is slightly hazy from the yeast in the bottle. Has a weak white head with very few carbon dioxide bubbles rising to the surface.

S-Not much aroma here-slightly fruity, corny, with a slight spicy hop note.

T-Clean, light malt. A hint of sweet corn. Very light hop presence. Smooth and creamy.

M-Extremely soft with a very quick finish. Nice body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel.

D-Extremely high, an easy to drink beer with some character.

O-A beer that has transformed many a beer drinker in WI from always grabbing a lager to having this extremely drinkable ale on hand.

Spotted Cow pours a bright straw color, lots of gold notes, fairly clear, lots of bubbles rising to the top of the glass, with a nice big fluffy head on top. It does look reminiscent of many macro lagers, however for a 4.8% farmhouse ale, I wouldn’t expect it to deviate too much from them. The aroma is interesting, lots of grains, hints of malty sweetness and noble hops round out a very simple aroma. The flavors are pretty straightforward, grains are dominant, some of the added corn is present as well with a dash of creaminess and faint hop oils. It has a nice crisp pilsner-like body and smooth finish.

Verdict: Nothing special, just a really well done low ABV ale. The flavors are simple but not boring, it’s crisp but not harsh and more importantly, it goes down so easily. Great to drink on a warm day or with a nice meal, and a great beer to convert a macro lager drinker.

Big thanks to my mom's cousin who always brings this back from family trips to Wisconsin.

Pours a somewhat hazy light straw with a 2 finger white head that recedes to a thin layer with excellent lacing down the glass.

Smells of noble hops and a strong grainy presence.

Starts off with a grainy bready taste followed by a slight noble hop spicy kick.

Good and creamy mouthfeel with medium carbonation levels.

Cream ales are my style of choice that most BA's don't like. I've always had a soft spot for this one and it's a very easy drinking light ale that actually has taste and mouthfeel behind it.
